Hello All: I have a Tandy 12"x12" Poly Cutting board that somehow has warped. This makes a horrible noise when I use it. Does anyone know of any way to return this to its normal flat state? Really hate to have to buy another one but if I do , any suggestions on suppliers. Depending on price I might want a larger peice of poly cutting board for my table. Thanks

Check out any of the dealers that appear at the top of the page, they are all reputable and will be more than willing to help. I can recommend the Cowboy 227R as I recently purchased one from Bob Kovar at Toledo Sewing Machine. This will handle wallets with no problem. He has used machines.

Prestige English Saddle Cleaning
Pounder replied to Pounder's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
I can imagine but still you7 just never know till you get into it. One of the saddles the customer returned with was a Circle Y, fully tooled that had a green mold all over it. Hot water, a tooth brush followed by lemon juice and a tooth brush got rid of the mold. Then came the cleaning part and I swear I wore out to elbows applying the perferable grease. -
Prestige English Saddle Cleaning
Pounder replied to Pounder's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
Saddlebag: I was suprised as well as it did not appear the saddle was that bad of condition but after a light wash, the water was dirty. A light coat of conditioner and hours of elbow grease resulted in one very satisified customer, who has returned with other saddles for cleaning and repair. Guess the first one was a test. -
Thanks for the information, definately worth a look.

I have a customer who brought a brand new Prestige English saddle that has been ridden twice and me to clean and oil it. I have worked leasther for over 30 years and this is the first time I have been asked to clean and oil a brand new english saddle. What do you recommen I used? I am all about natural ways to clean and oill s saddle, I am not afraid of a good hand rubbing on a saddle. I know everybody has got their own little thing they do tho make these things shine, and that is what I am looking for , something to please a well connected lady with the local horse ranches. I appreciate all of your responses before hand and look forward to learing from yoiu. Jolhn

Thanks Spartan, actually ended up using both methods, drill to drill out the center then a small punch to knock them out. Both worked real well with no enlargment of the original hole. Thanks for the infor though.
-
Thanks again, I've got several small pin punches of various size, I'll try that as well. Tree Reaper you have been a big help.
-
Thanks Tree Reaper, I will give that a try. Shouldn't have any problems after that but just wanted to check before I started drilling or ripping a seat apart, those things are not cheap. Thanks again for the advice.

Customer brought me a Mustang seat his dog got hold of while he was in the hospital. Anyway this is my first attempt at repairing a seat but I have been doing leather for 30 years. This is an area I really want to get into as there seems to be a large market for it. Question is, how do you remove the rivets from the seat? I am guessing you drill them out so they can be removed and replaced but is there a better way? Last thing I want to do is cause anymore damamge than has already been done. Thanks for the help, I look forward to several replies.

Rough Out Saddle Seat Repair
Pounder replied to Pounder's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
Thanks Dirtclod, excellent recommendation just what I was looking for. I agree with the stitching on the seat but the saddle has that satitch design all over it and the customer wants and I am sure you know what that means. Thanks again. -
Hey Ya'll: Started my first saddle repair project by replacing a rough out saddle seat and have a few things I could use some help. I have removed the old seat and the padding underneath, what is your recommendation to replace the padding with? The old padding appeared to be some sort of fiber material with a burlap covering where it was glued to the strainer pad. The owner has told me she has owned this saddle for over twenty years if that helps. Is there some place to obtain a design for the stitching for the old seat or is this a free hand type thing? I think I can recreate the stitching pattern but the old seat is in very poor condition. I have been working leather for 30 years and this is my first saddle repair so if there is any other tips or tricks that would help I would be grateful for the knowledge. Already own the Stohlman Saddle series and have worn the binding studying them. Thanks and look forward to a lot of responses from you who have been where I am.

How You Can Help Leatherworker.net
Pounder replied to Johanna's topic in Announcements and Administrivia
First, thank you Johanna for an outstanding site dedicated to education and fellowship for us, the leather worker, be it hobbyists or professional. Second, I encourage all to contribute what they can moneitarily to this site. If you factor in the knowledge you will recieve, the patterns and tutorials, the tips on old and new items, not to mention all of the expereince and you get all of this for free, then a few dolllars is an outstanding deal. I have saved enough from the expereince and direction of others on this site to cover a contibution. Just my two cents worth.
