  1. Thanks for all the answers folks I have decided to go with part of winterbear's idea. I am getting one of the small covered peg buckles (well a couple actually, then he can have two for variety). I will try stitching around the edge as I am not keen on lacing. Cheers Natalie

    Firefox 4

I have firefox 4 and I get them But I did a bit of reading, and a simple solution for you may be to download a 'link preview' addon. Click 'Tools' then 'Add ons' and try searching (top right hand corner) for "link preview" there seems to be quite a few available. Natalie
  3. Thanks for the answers folks I had considered doing a webbing strip at the end, but he's so small around the middle I don't think there would be much belt left to emboss! Luke, sorry but I don't understand what you mean by "In Leather i would use the Sam Brown Post."? What is the 'proper' name for the peg type buckle? often when looking at buckles they only seem to show the fronts. Cheers Natalie
  4. Hi all I want to make a belt for my grandson (age 4) who is used to wearing webbing belts that use this sort of buckle Obviously this is no good for leather! But he's no good at undoing normal buckles (typical 4 year old, leaves going to the bathroom until the LAST minute and then is in a busting hurry) Does anyone have any suggestions for a 'buckle' that would be super fast and easy for him to undo? I had thought about press studs but they would look ugly when I add on more for adjustments. Pirate theme is going to be used on the belt. Idea's anyone? Thanks Natalie
  5. Or you could go to a chemist and buy an el cheapo fabric one ... and take it apart to get the shape. Last one I brought for my first aid kit was a whopping $2, makes for a cheap pattern. Natalie

  9. Thanks for that info TapTapTap Always nice to have a name to contact at a store. And thanks for the nswleather link to. They have an office here in melb, which gives me another place to shop apart from Leffler (I wasn't that impressed with Lefflers range to be honest. I went through a good dozen hides before I found an ok one and they don't stock dyes or many tools) Cheers Natalie
  10. I purchased some pig skin lining (veg tan) from the UK and it just came normal post with no problems. AQIS allow tanned leather through happily, I can't find the page now, but I did find the full info on importing leather before I purchased. So long as the seller states its 'tanned leather' on the outside you should be fine. Birdsall leather stock a few odd skins http://birdsall-leather.com.au/home.php?cat=97 and are good to buy from. Leffler leather in melb might have some, but good luck with finding their website up and running. The manager thinks he's an IT wiz.. so breaks it constantly. Cheers Natalie from Melbourne
  11. I love the design, the expression on the dragons face looks like he just hit cold water or can't reach to scratch an itch Natalie

  17. HI I am new to leatherwork to. I have seen quite a few cuffs here that are not lined, and I don't plan on lining the pair my daughter wants me to make her. You might try rubbing saddle soap into the back of your cuff to soften it, and there are plenty of oil or beeswax products that might help overall with softening it up a bit, but that will depend on what finish you want and if your painting the cuff or just dying it. Also, are you wet molding your masks? because that will stiffen the leather and you shouldn't need to wet mold a cuff. Just keep reading on this forum, there is a wealth of info here! Natalie

  21. I think chicago screws are you best bet for concho attaching, a rivet would be worse. I was thinking about it last night and wondered if maybe slightly indenting them would work. I was thinking of a stitching groove where the edge of the concho screw sits might make it so there wasn't anywhere to catch. If it was me, I would just add a really thin under 1mm lining (probably suede) though. Natalie
