  1. You can take the finish off that first one with masking tape.
  2. You can try a fine tip ball point pen or get some tracing film.
  3. The rivets may scratch your gun, you might consider lining the holster. The barrels are covered more so for protection of the gun and front sight. The black from spent powder can get on your clothes as well. I've seen that style before but usually on autos where the barrel only sticks out about an inch or two.
  4. Welcome to the forum Jay, what style of holster do you think you'll make? A kit is always a good idea for your first project but isn't necessary if you would like something that isn't offered. Chances are you'll make one and see where you can make improvements and will want to make another so do your best but don't beat yourself up if it isn't perfect, the first few seldom are. Kevin.
  5. It's been many years since I made a holster but I bought a blue gun from Rob last week and put some leather around it.
  6. For breaking hides I use a rounded steel plate similar to a round nose shovel. You oil the leather slightly then draw it back and forth on the flesh side. Possibly some round heavier balls like India rubber in the dryer on cold temperature will soften it also.
  7. How did you apply the dye? It's best to use something like sheep wool, if you pour it on then spread it, it will blotch. What kind if dye?
  8. Go big and get the pink tiger stingray. https://corrientesaddleco.com/STINGRAY_OPTIONS.php
  9. Springfield has 1/2" conways. It might be worth a call to ask if they can order anything smaller.
  10. Tandy has a craftaid # 75001-00 with a squirrel. or http://www.etsy.com/...all&ga_includes[0]=tags&ga_search_query=squirrel+stamp&ga_ref=related&ga_page=1&ga_facet=squirrel+stamp&ga_view_type=gallery
  11. If you can make bamboo rods you should be able to make a creaser. Check Woodcraft for cocobollo. http://www.woodcraft.com/search2/search.aspx?query=cocobollo
  12. You could use a sewing machine needle in your awl.
  13. I would only attempt something new like that on scrap first.
  14. Some day I want to tear off a chunk of soft sponge, lightly apply a diluted resist and use it to mottle the finish.
  15. Cheryl; I only use neatsfoot oil on items that I'm bending like a glasses case. You can use it for other applications but if you over do it your stains won't work properly. Just a single light coat and let dry 24 hours. A resist might be a better option for what you want to achieve.
  16. http://images.nitrosell.com/product_images/9/2035/large-72-108.jpg I bought two of these from Springfield, can't get it to work. Is there a secret to using these things? The ink doesn't get to the tip. Kevin
  17. Thanks Doug, first one and as always I'll make a few modifications on the next one. Marking the spacing and stitching was a little time consuming.
  18. For a rigid case I would be molding the leather over a form and then baking it in the oven.
  19. Ohio advertises special orders for grommets they don't stock, it wouldn't hurt to ask them about it.
  20. If the camera has a screw hole for a tripod you could use that to screw the case to the camera.
