  1. Then that's part of your problem. Put wood under the leather to support it.
  2. Are you drilling into wood beyond the leather?
  3. There are also states that don't require helmets where they could be worn.
  4. Front to back then pull the gusset into it and join the two to keep everything in place.
  5. Something else that might work is putting a strap inside the bag, draw the gusset in towards it and use an eyelet, rivet or stitch to secure the gusset to the strap which will hold it inward.
  6. I couldn't make the flap larger and have it look good too so I would probably try and make the bag smaller if it was my project. If you just tried to make the flap larger it would most likely look like an add on in my opinion. This is where having a template before you start is most important.
  7. I'm guessing there's too much slack in the gusset, the flap isn't wide enough at the base or more likely a combination of both.
  8. I'm not much of a bag man but the bags I've seen with that type of gusset have a top flap shaped to fit the gusset.
  9. I've had a lot of trouble dealing with Springfield compared to Tandy. They have a great catalog and plenty of supplies but it's just too much of a hassle. I'd rather support Springfield because they are a sponsor here but it isn't working out, I know many others here that don't have a problem dealing with them and are happy with the service.
  10. Yes, there is a time limit. The reply I made to you this morning can no longer be edited.
  11. Cova Colors is the registered trademark name of an acrylic paint.
  12. It's difficult to see, bottom right unless the time has expired then it's gone!

Thanks for that, I've never really looked at them before. I had a closer look and they are real, real dead.

The book, THE ART OF HAND SEWING LEATHER has a very good illustration on how the sewing is done starting on page 30. Two pieces of leather, one I make 9 1/4" x 5" and the disc on the bottom is 3 1/8". Getting the measurements right was the tricky part in having the bottle fit the finished product. It helps to use a form, I cut a form from cedar on my band-saw but you could use any round shape that is the proper size. A curved awl helps in pushing the holes through the top and into the edge of the leather for sewing. We're not sure
  16. Hi Cheryl, yes I'll use it in the same manner as your C-clamp. I've been using a wood workers vise but I find the surface area too small for the molds I'm using. The nice thing about this one is the gauge on top that allows you to control the pressure. It will also double for clicking or cutting leather using custom dies. Kevin.

This was made for a birthday gift, the guy has a camp in an area called big pine. I added a belt loop and it has a foam liner to keep the drink cool.
  18. Just bought a new shop press and saved $70, just happened to be what I was looking for and on sale to boot! I can use it as a leather press and a clicker.
  19. There are a few videos on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZC7TfvCB0E
  20. There's no doubt that the turned cocobolo's are top of the line and I wish I had room for a turning lathe here. When a tree goes dormant for the winter and stops feeding there isn't much of a line between any two annual rings and from what I know about rain forests where there aren't different seasons the growth ring separations are next to invisible in most species. Slower growing seasons would put the rings closer together which would translate to dense wood. Different species also have different growth rates regardless of what the season produces.
  21. Well my point is, if the last layer is wax and trag it doesn't much matter what's under it. I'm not sure about the Spring and Fall wood, as growth rings are in annual layers so the Spring and Fall are essentially the same ring, at least in North America. South America I don't think experience any seasonal change. Growth rings are better defined by how much moisture the tree receives. I have an abundance of cedar, I can cut them with a cheap hole saw, stack them on a bolt and shape them where they meet with a rasp and sandpaper. If they only last for ten years I won't mind replacing them.
  22. My unfinished softwood cedar burnisher has a coating of trag and wax from burnishing so I can't see any kind of a finish making much of a difference .
  23. A difference in thickness won't have a significant effect.
  24. Make the entire pattern larger but trace it onto a folded piece of paper then you can reduce or increase any part of it until you get what you want. You can also taper it.
  25. Are you just looking for a longer handle or an over all larger handle?
