  1. That is some seriously heavy duty gunleather. Beautiful work.
  2. Very nice. I too, think your step-by-step montage was well done. And very helpful too. OVerall, a beautiful project.
  3. I like it. And a little wide never hurt anything...keeps the rain and stuff out. Roger
  4. That's my brother! Great job on that work, Chris, and I like the finish too. Outstanding. Not biased. Roger
  5. That is a pretty piece of work. Beautiful dye work. Congratulations.
  6. Outstanding! I hope it cuts well and gives you years of service. Really nice!
  7. I really like your work. No matter how long you have been working in leather you are making some really creative pieces. Smashing.
  8. I like it! What kind of finish did you use?
  9. That's very clever! Well done. I know they will cherish it.
  10. You might have busted a gut trying to turn that rascal. Nice bag!
  11. I'm looking at trying my hand at a camp stool or two. After seeing some of the beautiful ones on this board. I found a source of brass rings. If I'm using 1 inch hardwood dowels, for legs...what size ring would be best? Here is the source (found link here on the board, of course): http://www.reefscuba.com/brass_rings.htm
  12. I'd put a keeper on. And my favorite belt is a double thickness one with neatsfoot oil. As it has aged it has really attained a great patina. I think the holes really look cool. Those groomsmen will really appreciate.
  13. From a USCG Academy grad, and an old US Navy man... Well done. Bravo Zulu Beautiful work
  14. Smashing! I like how the thongs attach the handles. Well done.

    Koi Fish

Very nice job. Last time (first time) I did a koi, I cut them in with my swivel knife then a backgrounder. And randomly undercut some of them and lifted them.
  16. I like. The proportions are especially pleasing. I look at a lot of examples of these bags in my quest for ideas. This one seems about perfect.
  17. I have been stymied by the darned rope stamp. I think your use of it was excellent. But I really like the fouled anchor. As an old sea dog type I need to incorporate that into my repertoire. Well done! Roger
  18. I made some wider lace. And I softened each strand with some saddle soap. It turned out okay, but no where near as nice as the ones that other folks have made...still kind of gappy. So, if I'm going to try this again, I am going to have to either buy some Roo lace, or a hide, or shoot one if it goes by my house. We don't have a lot of wild Roo in Arkansas. And I'm not sure how much lace a possum would give up. RDS
  19. I was looking at Ron Edwards' Bush Leatherwork. And decided to try my hands at a plaited leather belt. I made some lace up and got started. But I am not sure I quite get it. I think the instructions for plaiting are great. But I am not happy with the lace I made. It doesn't want to lay up next to it's strand mates. I didn't make it out of kangaroo, not having one about. I tried some horse hide...reckoning it is strong and smooth and cuts well. But it just doesn't seem right. For one thing it is almost square in cross section. Could try some thin 4 oz cowhide. But before I waste a piece of hide, I thought I would seek help. I'm using a plastic lace maker. Is there a better choice? If I were looking at 3/16 wide strips...how thick are we talking about? What about treating the strands before plaiting? There shouldn't be any gaps between the plaited strands, right? Rambling...but looking forward to some advice. Thanks Roger
  20. Saw your post, and became inspired. I have made a pair of mocs, but not this style, and they are....interesting. But I would like to make a pair like this. The tutorial is great. I had a question about the welt, though, and maybe someone can help. If you glue down the welt around the outsole, as shown, sew the upper to the sole, and then turn the shoe right side out...you don't get a rolled welt, do you? It seems you just have a flat piece of leather showing. Or am I wrong? Yours looks rolled. Did you do something different? I suppose one could take thin leather, fold and forge it, then glue it in as welt with the fold part innermost. Is that how it's done? Thanks, Roger
  21. When I saw this thread I had to make one. I waterproofed it by treating with beeswax. For this small project I just melted some in the microwave and immersed the ring and let it soak up the wax. It's flexible, and quite waterproof.
