  1. Hi,Greystone. You said the edges were cemented, did you allow enough dry time before sewing as I found if I get too keen the damp contact causes all sorts of problems acting as a tensioner.Hope this helps in some way.
  2. When I do my edges I dampen them with water then rub a bit of liquid saddle soap in then put a touch of my beeswax/oils/natural turps plus emu oil mix on and rub like hell with a bit of canvas.my edges come up with a great shine fairly easy.
  3. Steve, how much do those big rivetters go for, I knocked one back for a $100 not long back as I had no where to put it and I couldn't shift it anyway.Did you get that needle and I ve got another one for you.
  4. Hi Para, welcome mate. Where in Perth are you. i'm down rockingham way. Plenty of answers and help on here, Good luck.Peter.
  5. Tr tTry going up a needle size or coming down in threadsize.Sounds like your thread may be getting stripped in the eye of the needle if the leather is a bit on the firm side.
  6. Steve ,I'll throw it in the post some time this week.
  7. Steve,is the one I showed you any good to you.If it is send me your address and its yours, its no good to me.I will check where I got it from,he may have more around the place.Peter.

  9. Hi Steve, any chance of emailing me that manual for a 45/25.i will send my email by pm if that's ok.im also starting to collect way to much .I currently have the 45k,29k71,31k48,201k and a old marshall skiver. The guy I got the 29 and 31 from said if I remember correctly he had a singer 1 or 2 I think it was.would that be correct and what price would it be worth if in going condition.he was another old bootmaker who has closed down. In the stuff I picked up from were a couple of huge machine needles, i'm talking like roofing nails but shaped more like an awl,any idea what they may be off.if I find them again I will send you pics. Thanks,Peter

  12. Great work from "go to whoa" with the fish skin. Cem,have you heard of the guy down Esperance way who deals in fish leather.Pretty exxy I believe but fantastic stuff.Sorry I don't know the name or address except it is one of the main streets in Esperance.

  14. Hi Ben, how about a bit of info on where you are. I am in WA and usually buy from "leather direct".I also got matey with my local leather and canvas works and get my smaller leather from him at his price. I also get to play in his scrap bins and get some great pieces of leather that way.
  15. HS,try Upholstery Distributors in Welshpool, sorry I don't have the exact address or phone number but they have quite an extensive range of theads.
  16. Cem , have you tried Leather direct in Perth. They were in Osborne park but are or have shifted up Wangara way.
  17. Try looking at your local scrap metal dealer for some 19mm-3/4 aluminium plate.A lot easier to move around and kinder on the feet.
  18. Hi Glendon,I have small frame with a 6 tonne jack in it with a poly board on a thick piece of aluminium. I regularly cut 3 sixteenth fobs etc and it will drive my clickers into the poly. There is plenty of oomph in it.Go for it
  19. Darren, thanks for that info.i am sure I am not the only one to not realise that plus many more little tricks to make our sewing easier and neater.
  20. Nice touches to a nice machine!
  21. Hi,the carvertools were made by Kelly Midas from New Zealand. They are a plastic /fibreglass composition I think. The small grey ends snap into the handle and if I remember rightly you use a small pin to pop them off again.i don't think they are valuable as such but are worth while for learning I suppose.Hope this helps a bit.
  22. Hi Howie,Freo tannery closed shop in nth freo earlier this year .I believe he is still operating from home now.Try him on the phone numbers in the book or the guy who works out of the freo markets can put you in touch with him.
  23. Tim,try your local scrap metal place for the ali plate.
  24. Hi Tim,i have a 6 ton H press and use 20 mil aluminium plates top and bottom with a poly bread board cutting plate. Its worked ok for me for the last few months.
