  2. Holty, try looking for Singermania or Anne Bonnys Locker in the members section. Both from the east coast of Aus.
  3. Hi Leatherwytch, not looking for a blue or anything ,just wondering why you wouldn't use roo leather. Everyone has their right to a view and it is interesting at times to listen to that view. I promise I am not going to comment on your views but I am interested in them. Thanks Peter.

  6. Hi Mate, there is nothing wrong with doing it this way as far as I am concerned. I do it this way myself if there is any concern of mucking it up with the machine. all the best, Peter.
  7. Hi HS, Which show was on.I am in Rockingham and haven't heard of any shows going except the royal next week.Do they do the judging in advance?. I do lessons with a group of 8 down in Pinjarra and I am sure some would like to exhibit. Any info would be great. Thanks. Peter
  8. See if you can get hold of some lanolin oil or "lanotec" is the trade name for it over here on Oz. Rub that all over your die and then gently warm it up, It apparently drives the lanolin into the metal and you should not have any problems with rust for quiet a while. if you go into any old shearing shed over and see machines very old that have been in contact with sheeps wool you will see how well preserved it is.
  9. Hi Joe, any chance of putting up a link ?. Thanks, Peter.
  10. Thank you Frans.
  11. The thing I hate is when I drop my scalpel and the normal reaction "for a bloke anyway" is to clap your legs together to catch it and then you realise "just let it drop.". I think I read somewhere men will automaticly close their legs trying to stop a falling object whereas women will open their legs and let their dress catch it.
  12. Hi MO, Yes I am Australian, but i was in England in January and picked it up myself. I think he said it takes a few weeks to arrive If sent by mail . They use the cheapest mail to keep costs down . Could be worth a quick email inquiry though. You will love using the stuff. Peter.
  13. Hi,You could try banging a few nails thru a piece of wood, then flatten the pointy end slightly to replicate claws and then drag that down the leather with various pressures and see what happens.
  14. Hi, I just bought three 500m rolls from Abbey England at a cost of 21.500 English pounds ea which roughly works out around Au$45 per roll. Postage would be extra.
  15. Hi, I make my own. Roll of wire from hardware store, cut off 1 metre length, double it over and stick about 2" in the vise and give it about 14 twists with a piece of 2" board in the doubled over end. Peter.
  16. Hi, I returned home Tuesday 28th and there was my notification to go and pick up my parcel at post office. No problems at all with customs. Thank you Abbey England for great service and no extra charges to post. Peter.
  17. Thanks again for replies.i have decided to go back to Abbey and see if shipping thru them helps.I will let you know in a couple of weeks when i get home if it worked.Peter.
  18. Thanks guys,Uk ispretty strict on knives of any sort in their mail according to the post office.Because headknife will be accessible in my luggage going thru the chunnel i have been told it would confiscated..I have been back in contact with Abbey and they said they could mail it back to me in Perth as apparently they dont have problems with the customs. From reading a few knife forums it seems possible that it could still run into problems with our own customs. It may be simpler to go back to Abbey and exchange it for some thing else. Thank you for replies,Peter
  19. Hi guys, i am in the UK at the moment and have bought some items from Abbey England, one item being a 6 inch headknife. After a while the great thought hit my head: am i going to have trouble getting this thru France and home to Aus.I am going to France thru the tunnel then flying Malaysia airlines to Kuala Lumpur then back home to Aus .I want to know if anybody done this before and did they have problems in the various countries.Waiting in anticipation of any replies. Thanks ,Peter
  20. Hi Tom, I haven't made mine yet but I am thinking of using an old clothes dryer.Rip the door off and strip out as much as possible then place a shelf and some hooks in there.i should be able to use the existing ducting but put a smaller and quieter fan on the back. This is project number 92 and I may get around to it by mid year .Possibly a fridge or something similar could be used as well. Peter.
  21. Hehe, now ya gotta learn to drive it!
  22. Hi Paul, welcome from Australia, your up early. I have a 45k25 and I too sometimes get the thumps.I usually check my needles first to see they are straight and sharp. another thing is to check the thread hasn't jumped out of the discs or has looped around something and is dragging. Also old dry leather makes them work hard too. Im sure some o the more knowlegible people will chime in with some more ideas for you.Good luck. Peter.
  23. I will let you know after freezing my butt off coming from the middle of summer here 40+c to your -2winter there.hehe.
