I'm with your sister - I personally like that even more than the rose clock.
-
The coloring on the roses is especially beautiful. She will certainly be proud to display that! Did you have difficulty with the circle for the face? I find that the hardest part of these clock projects.

I had gotten the knife sharpened not long ago. I rarely use it. I chose it this time because the leather was thicker than I usually work with and the scissors were not an effective method (I thought). I did indeed have both hands behind the knife: one was next to the ruler, which I was using as a guideline...ruler slipped, hand moved, oops! : Anyhow, it wasn't as bad as it could've been. I just couldn't get the bleeding to stop on my own. The dr put some glue (yeah, "crazy glue for doctors") and bandaged it. It's only about an inch long slice, from my finger nail to the first knuckle.

If you can ever get a class with Peter Main, I'd recommend it. He also has several books out, but most are about coloring I think.

So here it is, the first holster finished. I also completed the cross draw, but don't have pics of it. Am working on the belt now. Next he wants cowboy cuffs, at least that is a much easier project. I baptized my head knife in blood on the belt (missed the leather, thankfully) and had to rush off to the clinic to have my finger glued/bandaged. Gosh, he's not paying me enough!

Yours will probably last better too! That's really nice work!

Better already I tend to fear over texturing myself. I did my first cat, from a Stohlman pattern, recently, and it was one of the toughest things for me. After such a project, I always retreat to my Celtic knots

It's a good start. I would use a modelling spoon to smooth out the bevelling a little. I hate flat bevellers, but that technique works for me. I have a modelling spoon that Peter Main made, and it's awesome. He doesn't even use bevellers at all!

Using deerskin to clean eyeglass lenses?
pepin1948 replied to Johanna's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
My husband is a NUT about buying boxes of special lense tissue/clothes and sprays for his glasses. I use t-shirts, sweaters, towels, tissues, whatever! I've had glasses since around 5th grade, and the only time I've used special wipes is if that was what was handy. -
That's gorgeous! Flashy enough without being overboard.

George is a great teacher, and kind person. He sent some basic videos along to me when I told him I was volunteering with our local 4H group. It really helped the kids to see a pro doing it. He makes everything look so easy!

I like what you suggested for the skull and wings - but I'd do the background black and the lettering red.

I got this email, and will be sending them some pieces myself, but wanted to post it in case there are some others here who might want to help out too... "I am writing on behalf of the rodeo team at the University of Tennessee at Martin. While our student-athletes do receive an excellent education, our scholarship money is limited to what we can raise. Most of our kids come from small rural towns and need financial assistance to be able to attend college. Many will be the first in their family to do so. The lure of being a member of a team, being able to bring their horse to campus, and the encouragement of a coach to walk them through admissions and class scheduling is vital in giving many the courage to take the big step to leave the familiarity of home and attend college. At UTM they will receive much more than just practice on their roping and riding skills. There is a weekly team meeting in which they learn life skills, such as goal setting, the importance of attitude, striving for excellence and overcoming obstacles, avoidance of drugs and alcohol, and the individuals value to the team. Due to the excellence of this program, Coach Luthi has received the prestigious Rawhide Award three times for developing values and encouraging healthy lifestyles in and out of the arena. Tuition has sky-rocketed over 110% in the past 9 years, and another large hike is forecasted for next fall. Many of these students are discouraged about their ability to financially attend college, and we have already lost some students as financial casualties. To help with this dilemma, our rodeo team is hosting a scholarship auction on April 14th, in conjunction with the 39thAnnual UTM College Rodeo. There will be close to 8,500 spectators and 250 contestants representing 32 different colleges during the 3 day event. Would it be possible for you to invest in the future of these student-athletes by donating to our scholarship auction? Anything from you would greatly enhance our auction and benefit our scholarship program. You may contact me at 731-881-7426 or jluthi@utm.edu if you have any questions. I know you must get many requests, and I appreciate you considering mine. Sincerely, Diane Luthi UTM Rodeo 1022 Elam Center Martin, TN 38238 "

I'm actually in the process of applying to be a Leathercraft Merit Badge Counselor here in the Hawk Mountain Council. I'm amused by the fact that I have to PAY yearly to be able to VOLUNTEER my services for this. While I was picking up the paperwork to fill out (for background check, etc), I noticed a series of booklets for the scouts on the different badges. I plucked out the one titled Leathercraft and scanned through it. Though it's outdated in its contact info (Tandy is mentioned everywhere), it seemed pretty good. But since it was 3.50 and I rarely carry cash and they didn't accept credit cards, I put it back...this info you posted will be helpful though.

Yes, I have one of the Spectrum books as well...I like how they showcase several artists in one book. It gives the chance to see many different styles.

I buy acrylics from craft stores like Michaels and A.C.Moore. I find they have a wider color assortment than Cova colors - although Cova was what I used for many years. Like Clay said, it's important to dilute the colors a little and build them up. Sometimes I will use them straight from the bottle, but it really depends on the project.

I love them! My favorite is the first one shown. Both have such a nice stain job, as well as the stitching. ps I have that same mallet...

And that's a whole day trip! -
6x6 doesn't seem big to me, actually, but it sure is beautiful!

"Latigo will seldom, if ever, bleed, even when soaking wet from water or sweat." Whew can my faire blouse prove that one wrong. I have a burgundy latigo bodice, and over time it has turned that region of my blouse a nice not-so-white color....

Hooray! I finally can shop local again and Jeff and Talina are wonderful. The store is very easy to find, just off Airport Road on Union Blvd in Allentown.
