How many machines do you have that can wind a bobbin? If more than one -- set one machine up to sew what you are doing, and just use one of the other ones to wind bobbins as needed. Oh and a bent nose tweezers helps imensenly to thead a needle. I found this out with my serger. I don't know if it is that you can see better because your hand is out of the way or if it because you can hold it steady. and yes I am near blind without my glasses (try 5/1400)

I use Ott-lite brand lamps for my crafting needs nice bright lights and full spectrum as well but not cheap - I got mine from Jo-Ann's Fabrics

Ive got one of these -- handy little thing the zero is at the center of the ruler and mine has holes at each inch mark. 6- 5- 4- 3- 2- 1- 0 +1 +2 +3 +4 +5 +6 can't remember where I got it at though.

well you could always do purchased cards and have a little stash of homemade ones for "backup" It would be better than saying "sorry, out of cards - let me scribble down my info for you"

You might try looking for leatherworking articals by people in the Society for Creative Anachronism (www.sca.org) we play in the middle ages and I am sure that there are folks out there that are doing the same thing that you want to do -- make a correct workshop. and are on the net. outside and daylight helps too. also a more "Nutural" background - I found doing mini work that too much contrast is not good. and something "not shiny" black is a very hard background color to work with. and my shooting skills with a digital camera -- SUCK

Ray are you talking about a corner booth that butts up against a wall -- or a corner booth at the end of an asile? While the dollhouse shows we did were tabletop display only -- no booths -- we loved the corner at the end of an asile. we could put our spinner racks on the end and people would be around the corner of the table. So we were selling on at least two sides (sometimes three) the corner up aginst a wall was hard because of the spinner racks -- they really held a lot of our "bread and butter" merchandise. We still tended to keep them on an end though - just not against the wall. As you said the dark tablecloth was a killer -- we went finally with a bittersweet orange - it stood out against all the other white tablecloths but wasn't DARK like a navy. Another thing that works well if you want dark tablecloths is to put large napkins of light colors on top of the table. Spotlighting items in effect. Just don't let them hang down off the front of the table (they get caught in purses and tugged right off the table)

Ray - we used to make ours up on blank index cards with a rubber stamp.... this was after watching children at the miniture shows collect cards from every vendor and then before they could go home their parents made them trash the stack of cards. they looked "ok" for a rubberstamp on an index card - just took time to make them (it was Dad's "job" = keep him out of Mom's hair for an afternoon - giggle) this was also pre computer for me - early 80's (I didn't have a machine that could do cards till about 94) I make cards for our SCA group with print shop and photocopies on plain paper. they also get trashed quite a lot. We also hand out a blue million of the silly things at demos and such. We went through about 200 at the last one. Last time I had cards printed it was $7.00 for a hundred copies at ten to a page. We do demo flyers that way too -- we call them "flyer lights" and they have the name of the event and when and where and a web address. This is also cheaper to pass out by the "millions" (also easier to carry around with you) I see business cards in the SCA from cheap homeprinted to very expensive ones and you know something? they all tell me the same info business name personal name and address website (if there is one) phone number and the people that pay a bunch of money are sooooo stingy with giving out cards you would think that they were made of gold leaf or something. I can understand not giveing out to kids willy nilly but an adult that is intrested in your work? I also relize that what we do with cards is not what you all do with them - but I thought I would toss my thoughts in the pot.

hooo boy electronics if it is the computer on board -- it might be toast electronics have two failure rates -- right now (in warrenty) or 20 years from now (when the warrenty is so out of date it doesn't matter anyway) can you take it back and get a different one?

well - like they say -- let him buy the junk stuff he will be back to buy your good stuff and you can have a good laugh later about how he just paid TWICE the price for ONE thing (first the crap one -- and then yours)

it might be that he liked the painted design (the image not the work) over what you had done for him and I really like what you did for him. Some people only see the flashy bits and never look past them to the construction. some people have to have the quality of constrution pretty much shown to them step by step and some of them still don't "get it"

why not try checking commercial jewlrey sites and see what the "standard" lengths are for bracelets? you would prob have to adjust a bit for the "leather" part of it but it should give you a start

it is the chicken pox virus that lives in your nerves and THAT is what causes shingles at a later date. so if you have never had chicken pox it can be bad if you are around someone with shingles if the "afflicted one" has open sores they can give you chicken pox (but not shingles - you can't get shingles if you never had chicken pox)

crissy - if you get to the Dr as soon as the rash appears they can give you antiviral meds to shorten the duration of the "crap" (Im on Valtrex) and right now I do NOT want to scratch mine HURT LIKE HELL IF I TOUCH ANY SPOT ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow
