  2. What is the difference between the system 794 D and S needles? I guess what I'm asking is how are they used. I have the D needles now and I wonder what S needles would be used for. SkipJ
  3. We used Dyo oil in John Bianchi's holster class in Wickenburg. He uses it. SkipJ
  4. Very nice. How do you hold the Bible in the cover? SkipJ
  5. Thanks Luke, I guess I'm being lazy, I was looking for a pattern but I should be able to make a pattern based on what I see there. SkipJ
  6. Does anyone have a pattern or know where I can find a pattern for a Badge Holder. I have one I found on eight bits site but I wonder if any others are available? Back Issues of magazine, pattern packs, ect. Thanks, SkipJ
  7. We did learn a lot in 3 days; there is a great description on the class here: http://pslac.org/public/04_apr08.pdf Thats the rawhide journal of the PSLAC, they had three members repeating the class, great people and very talented. I'll post my thoughts on the class as soon a I can. SkipJ
  8. Thanks everyone for the help. I'm ok as long as there isn't an exam on the subject :>) Is the 794 as Schmetz system? Does it matter. I'm asking somewhat out of curiosity. If I order a 794 D needle will it be a certain diameter needle with a D point shape or do I need to add more info like NM or Singer size? I seems some of the discriptions are redundant like #25 (200). Again thanks, SkipJ
  9. art the 33 was my typo is should have been 23. I'm still not clear what a needle system consists of. Does it describe the shank dia and length of the needles? The #25 (200) throws me. I looked up the Schmetz page and can't find system 794 listed. Is the #25 the singer needle size and the 200 refer to NM? Thanks, SkipJ
  10. I'm even more confused, Systems? SkipJ
  11. My Artisan manual for the 4000R says to use Schmetz brand needles size 794 D or S,NM:160 or 160 size 33 or 24, Canu 53:20MF1. Are the NM and Canu different brands of needle? Also, for heaver leather it say us 794 D of at least #25 (200). I thought the 794 was a certain size needle with a D point or do they come in different diamenters? Just got the machine and would like to order some different needles for various thickness of leather or fabric. Thanks, SkipJ
  12. I just got a 4000R and the manual looks the same as the 3000. It is the same manual after further review. Steve told me there is a error in the threading diagram for the 4000, he probably told you about it already, when you thread the aux tension head you are supposed to run the thread back through thread guide "A" again. This is a typo in the manual. I was trying to sew with 346 thread on the needle and the bobbin, that's the thread that came with the machine, and I couldn't get hte thread tension right. The manual says you can use that combo for sheaths but Steve says it won't work which was my experience, the combined thread layers are too big to go thru the hole the needle makes. SkipJ
  13. Yes, but not very good at it. But thats the nice thing, winning is no big thing, having fun is. SkipJ
  14. I make it for my Wife so it would be a terrible fit for me. She loves it. We measured her in class for it so it's a custom fit she says it's perfect. SkipJ
  15. Mine is machine stitched. We had but 3 days to finish the project and all but one student used machine. I didn't do the stitching because I've never used a machine before and no one else would have had time to do theirs if I tried to learn. I bought a Artisan at the show so I can practice to my hearts content. Thanks for the kind words everyone. SkipJ

Kathy, congratulations on winning first place. There was no question of whose carving was best; although all the other work was excellent. Nice prize too. SkipJ
  17. I was told that the secret to Resolene is many thin layers otherwise it will dry tacky. SkipJ
  18. I'd be glad to review, I'll have to give it some thought before I write it. SkipJ
  19. I liked the machines so much I bought one. Yes we finished the edges, I'm not sure what you meant about finishing. We used edge cote after burnishing them. SkipJ
  20. Here is the holster set I made for my wife in John Bianchi's class at the SW leatherworkers show. SkipJ

Saw the carving today at the show. It's more of a sculpture than a carving, WOW. It is fantastic in my humble opinion. SkipJ
  22. Sorry about the incorrect info on Wickenburg. SkipJ
