I'm wondering if there is room in the market for two machines so similar. Especially with the Artisan 3000 so close in price. Are the Tippmann machines made in the USA? SkipJ

I Just received my Tandy November sale flier. They have the Stitch Master on the back page. I looks a lot like a Boss to me. I has a 9" throat; is that bigger than the Tippman? It says "Engineered in the USA", nothing about where it is manufactured. I hoped for something different. SkipJ

Great idea Bruce, when I went thru Sheridan while on vacation, I couldn't find anything except Kings. That was great, but I knew there were other places I would like to visit but couldn't find anything. I did find a leather craft store but it was closed when I got there. SkipJ

A couple more questions: the welt is 3/8 wide? How do you keep the rivit on the belt clip from scratching the knife. Same question about the concho fastener. SkipJ

Someone told me at a class this spring in Wickenburg that stropping the swivel knife during carving doesn't polish the swivel knife but cleans the residue from the leather and makes it cut smoother. SkipJ

Thanks, that helps. I had always thought that the "Western Floral" in Tandy was the only way. When I started doing leather again, I heard about Sheridan. Purdy Gear in her descriptions of holsters talks about individuals carvers styles which fits into your answers. Thanks, SkipJ

Are there any "official" carving styles. I know about Sheridan and the "old" style of floral carving Tandy books show. At the Show in Wickenburg this spring, there was a class teaching five styles. When I looked at the holsters offered by "Purdy Gear" she listed far more than that. SkipJ

I saw some beautiful stitching horses at Kings in Sheridan that were for sale. They were in the building behind the main store where the museum is off to the side in the area where they sell ropes. They are make in Wy. They were much more expensive than the one's your are talking about. Skip J

Thanks everyone for the info. I guess I'm old enough I don't care if the machine lasts over 15 years. I just do leather work as a hobby, no hopes of even doing it for a second income. I tried hobby businesses before and it just ruined the hobby's for me. I had to please other people and worry about the business side of things. I wasn't successful enough for it to pay enough to put up with the hassles. Perhaps I should have started out asking my question with that in mind. A number of different feeding mechanisms were mentioned in your answers. I used Artisan machines in the holster making class in Wickenburg and have no problem with them, they worked great. Just the price was high for my use. I'd like to buy a used machine, but don't know of anywhere in Michigan where I could find something suitable for my use. SkipJ
