  1. I have a Juki 1541S with a servo and speed reducer. Wonderful control, lots of power and wide range of speed. Turn it up for long runs, down for slow Works great. I just come into a Ferdco 1245 that has a clutch motor and speed reducer. It has excellent control, lots of power, but lacks the option of slow or fast. I could put a larger pulley on the motor but don't know how that would effect the control. servo's are hard to beat and a speed reducer behind one makes an awesome setup. Just my 2 cents. Ken

  4. you might consider a Cobra Class 3 if you don't need the throat capacity of a Class 4. You will not be disappointed with either machine and if you call steve, he will be able to give you GREAT advice and it won't cost you. Great Machines, and service out of this world. Hope this helps. Ken
  5. It has been my experience, where I worked for years, that tack rooms in general attract rodents. I have seen tack chewed on that has been treated with pure neatsfoot oil, neatsfoot oil compound, vegetable oil-big favorite of mice, harness oil-- the list goes on. I think the main attraction is the salt that tack gets from contact with a sweaty horse. Back to the subject at hand, I have had better luck with olive oil than any other oil I have ever tried, as far as keeping saddles and tack conditioned in hard use.

  10. Duhamel closed their store after 1976 as I was in it in 1976. I don't know when they quit building saddles. At one time they were the number 1 volume builder in the US. They built a lot of freaks (outlandish swells and super high cantles). After WW2, it seems their saddles got a little better seats in them but a lot of them were pretty hard on a cowboy. I worked on a number of them when I was in Rapid City and the ones that had any care ussually seemed to hold up well. Funny thing about them, I worked on some that dated back into the early 1900's and up into the late 30's that looked pretty much the same. By the way Bruce, GREAT story. Ken

  16. I don't know if it is possible but if you can do it,and I don't know why it wouldn't, you will have a valuable machine. I would love to have a 12 inch splitter. I can get a close idea of the angle of the blade on my Pilgrim(landis) splitter if you like. Ken

  20. I started doing business with Steve when he worked for his now competitor. Been doing business with his new company since he first started it. He has been always been a great gentleman, he has helped me work on machines, by phone, I did not purchase from him. I have a Class 4 Cobra which is a really good, nice machine to use and dependable. I feel Steve has set the bar pretty high in customer service. He is the reason I own a Cobra Class 4 machine. I knew I would always be able to tech assistance over the phone if I needed it, knew it would be courteous, correct and easy to understand. Steve is a gem in a world that is less polite, less considerate and less respectful as time rolls on. He has earned my respect, my business and friendship by being not only a super sewing machine guy but a credit to the business world in general. Good luck, you have earned it Steve. Just my 2 cents worth. Ken

  24. That would probably do it, Been hearing Tony Luberto has been hard to find, which I am sure he could and would let you know for sure. Nice fellow. I will check my manual at work today. Will let you know if I find anything this evening. Ken
  25. I don't think so, The book tells how to do it, but I don't have it here at the house. Try sewing on it dry before you tear into it. Those classics like dry leather and I have never had a problem with mine marking leather badly even with the stirrup plate. Great Machine. Ken
