  1. Just wanted to update this thread and say I am receiving much better results after diluting the dye. Thank you all for your advice!
  2. A very clean and nicely done piece. The recipient will love it.
  3. Gorgeous work!
  4. Thanks for the tip Chuck. I've read spraying is the way to an even application of color. Right now I am using a dauber and its taken a bit of practice to apply an even layer of dye. It's been a fun learning experience.
  5. Thanks for the replies. I'm going to dilute the color to achieve an acceptable tone.
  6. Hi all, I'm having a problem finding the color I want. I ordered a bottle of Fiebing's British Tan and the color is more a dark red/burgundy/oxblood color!! Using a dauber and a light coat on veg tan the color contains much more red than what I expected judging from the chart below. I can understand and accept a bit of color variation but the color I received is way too red! I'm not sure if I can dilute the current color down to a respectable British Tan. Has anyone experienced this and can recommend a color close to either British Tan or Buckskin? I don't have access to a brick and mortar shop and would rather not buy half a dozen colors online hoping to stumble on the right one! Thanks!
  7. Agreed, clean simple design. The buffalo head coin snap is a great touch.
  8. Beautiful work.
  9. electrathon I applaud your attempt to produce what a dwindling group of modern high end shoe companies are doing. This art of hand-made footwear is slowly fading away in the face of cheap imports. Keep up the amazing work!!
  10. Very impressive. This is taking leatherwork to the next level. I look forward to seeing future projects!
  11. Movie making prop houses use vacuum forming to make multiple identical pieces for use in films. It's great to see the idea adapted for holsters! Very creative.
  12. There is "What you say" and there is "How you say it" . Suggesting there should be a time period for members to edit posts for grammar, content, etc. is fine. I support this. Many forums allow a certain time period before posts are locked. I cannot tell you how many early morning and late night replies I've made on forums where I look back and wonder what was I trying to say?? Sometimes a bit of judicious editing and clarification is necessary. There is nothing wrong in expressing this. However..Walking into a forum with its particular software set-up, regulations, social dynamic, etc. and launching into a tirade about how "screwy" they place is, and the moderators and members who are not online, and I don't care if this sells... is a load of baloney! You're going to get a much needed strong response from the group.
  13. I cannot imagine anyone not liking it! Here's hoping you get an order for a dozen more.
  14. Thanks for taking the time and effort to experiment with the different products. I look forward to trying a few products in future projects.
  15. As a moderator on another private owned site that charges zero dollars for membership I can confirm this graph as completely accurate! When members get too irate or out of control we offer to gladly refund any membership dues and bid them a good day. When you walk into someone's house you abide by their rules or hit the road. Moderators donate their time to help keep the site pleasant and organized and it doesn't help to go on a rant over some minor quibble. There is little that cannot be solved with a pleasant post or private message.
  16. Very creative design. The broguing and stitching work well together!
  17. Would one more "nice job" be too redundant? Hope not!
  18. Very cool design. I love the secret compartment!
  19. A big thank you to Nigel and everyone who contributed to this thread. I've taken my first steps in saddle stitching (a wallet) and this thread has helped a lot!
  20. Great looking piece, I love the squirrel!
  21. Nicely done! The collar has a very regal look to it.
