  1. Need some advice please... My Pfaff 145-P-6C sews beautiful until it skips random stitches. Usually in prominent locations! Leather material used is 3 - 5 oz in weight, thread 69 top & bottom, needle 190LR - 125/20. Tried a larger needle with same results. Machine was recently serviced, no issues noted. It has been around a while used hard in a canvas factory. Any suggestions on what to try as I am very frustrated. Thanks!!!
  2. Dfrensdorff, I am on the fence looking at Horween - bovine chromexcel. The material is beautiful.... Staying away from horse; although that seems to be the most incredible material! Your project is nicely done! Any advise on the Horween? Thanks
  3. Great details ...thanks for the info. and patterns!
  4. Both suppliers have a good variety of colors for 277....Try Weaver Leather, www.leathersupply.com Also The Thread Exchange, www.thethreadexchange.com or 800-915-2320. I have found there are a good variety of colors out there but are somewhat limited when it comes to this weight.....which is actually my preference when sewing. The second supplier speciality is thread and will custom roll colors for you. Good luck!
  5. Joe your bag looks great for your first go with a zipper.....they can be a b----! Your stitching looks good as well. I too learned the hard way on a rope/ round handle. However I now understand the wonders of a machine with a roller foot. Would you consider finishing the raw edges? Take care!
  6. These are very good looking chaps.....looking forward to your chinks next!
  7. DavidL, The very old and vintage machines are fun and what I too wanted....purest to sew with a crank or treadle. The old Singer 29-4 I have is in great shape (c.1909) but has many draw backs as mentioned above, the biggest is its diffulculties to sew long consistent runs.... Therefore called patch machine for a reason. I also have a vintage Singer post bed as in the video...(it also has limitations as mentioned although less), but can sew right to the edge of very soft material -mine came from a glove factory. As I ventured along I have settled on a flat bed Pfaff (1960) walking foot and a Cobra 4. Both of which allow me to hit the ends of the material spectrum along with the post machine.....But it has been a learning experience which I hopefully will continue to progress in. This site has been a great reference for me and I thank all the machine experts for your kind words of wisdom! Best of luck to you!
  8. Veedub3, I am looking for a edge finish for softer leathers that are chrome tanned. I have tried using the Fenice edge paint and then the hot iron on top. The result is okay but not the professional look I am after to actually meld two pieces into a smooth coated edge. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks
  9. Really nice work! I am a big fan of wet forming leather..... Great job and really creative.
  10. Those are great bags.....really like that they are lined. Try Cobra machines....Steve is VERY informed and can send you in the right direction. I own one and it is a great work horse and use it for sewing heavy leather. It sews a great top stitch and does a beautiful consistent job. Good luck!
  11. Right on! I am using Buffalo nickels for mine......they are beautiful when polished. Trying the smaller Mercury dime next. FDL
  12. Hey leatherman87, Pm me if you would as I am interested in your key hangers. I am in Okeechobee county just south of you in the big state of Fla. Thanks very much!

  14. You are a true craftsman with incredible attention to detail! Thanks for sharing.
  15. Nice bag Britkk! Hey Eemo please tell us more on the European style edge working. I work a lot in chrome leather and painting the edge (tried a variety of products) still does not look finished enough. Would love to see this method. thanks!
  16. Thanks for the pattern and for the tips! Now I can give the wallet a go that I have been thinking about.
  17. Any advice on a "heat embossing" tool for a logo on either vegie and chrome leather? Looking at a tool advertised here on the site. Thanks all.
  18. Looks like you did a great job! Especially sewing by hand. I am also fairly new and can appreciate your efforts. I've been working without patterns and trying to disassemble and reassemble bags (on paper) as I see them......sometimes the results are on target but it has been a learning experience. Good luck and if we can put our heads together on some design delimas pls. give me a shout. FDL.
  19. Thanks.....would you consider selling the tool?
  20. My husband and I are planning our first show the end of March. We too really appreciate the list of supplies and suggestions to make ready for the sale. Also the goods to sell; we assumed smalls would be best but it sounds like we should really concentrate on the small items.... Say under $20 or $ 30 price point and have a few higher end items. But this will be a learning experience for the show itself and the sale. Thanks again all for the insight and any other words of wisdom are welcome!!
  21. Jason, your leather goods are beautiful ......great attention to detail! Would you share what edge finishing product(s) you are using on your gator and the chrome leather as well? Thanks very much. Fdl.
