  1. Very clean....nice work! The wet formed gusset is a cool idea.
  2. Tinkertailor and Wizcrafts; Thank you both for your suggestions ..... I will try them out!
  3. Need some advice please... My Pfaff 145-P-6C sews beautiful until it skips random stitches. Usually in prominent locations! Leather material used is 3 - 5 oz in weight, thread 69 top & bottom, needle 190LR - 125/20. Tried a larger needle with same results. Machine was recently serviced, no issues noted. It has been around a while used hard in a canvas factory. Any suggestions on what to try as I am very frustrated. Thanks!!!
  4. Nice work! I love the strap.....If you would pls. share on the how you manufactured this, as it really fits the theme of the bag. Thanks FD
  5. Dfrensdorff, I am on the fence looking at Horween - bovine chromexcel. The material is beautiful.... Staying away from horse; although that seems to be the most incredible material! Your project is nicely done! Any advise on the Horween? Thanks
  6. Beautiful edge work ...and clean inlays. Pretty work!
  7. Great details ...thanks for the info. and patterns!
  8. Nice job! I know getting the zipper to lay even and keep the material flat is a challenge.
  9. Very nice work!
  10. Both suppliers have a good variety of colors for 277....Try Weaver Leather, www.leathersupply.com Also The Thread Exchange, www.thethreadexchange.com or 800-915-2320. I have found there are a good variety of colors out there but are somewhat limited when it comes to this weight.....which is actually my preference when sewing. The second supplier speciality is thread and will custom roll colors for you. Good luck!
  11. Joe your bag looks great for your first go with a zipper.....they can be a b----! Your stitching looks good as well. I too learned the hard way on a rope/ round handle. However I now understand the wonders of a machine with a roller foot. Would you consider finishing the raw edges? Take care!
  12. These are very good looking chaps.....looking forward to your chinks next!
  13. DavidL, The very old and vintage machines are fun and what I too wanted....purest to sew with a crank or treadle. The old Singer 29-4 I have is in great shape (c.1909) but has many draw backs as mentioned above, the biggest is its diffulculties to sew long consistent runs.... Therefore called patch machine for a reason. I also have a vintage Singer post bed as in the video...(it also has limitations as mentioned although less), but can sew right to the edge of very soft material -mine came from a glove factory. As I ventured along I have settled on a flat bed Pfaff (1960) walking foot and a Cobra 4. Both of which allow me to hit the ends of the material spectrum along with the post machine.....But it has been a learning experience which I hopefully will continue to progress in. This site has been a great reference for me and I thank all the machine experts for your kind words of wisdom! Best of luck to you!
  14. Veedub3, I am looking for a edge finish for softer leathers that are chrome tanned. I have tried using the Fenice edge paint and then the hot iron on top. The result is okay but not the professional look I am after to actually meld two pieces into a smooth coated edge. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks
  15. JoMac, Great work! I really like your veg tote.....is it one piece for the front and back with folded up / over stitched side seams? Thanks !!
  16. Your edges are beautiful on this bag! Looks to be a chrome tanned leather? You have included a soldering iron with an edged tip in the pics. Can you pls. offer more details on the iron and the finish method? Thanks FDL!!
  17. Really nice work! I am a big fan of wet forming leather..... Great job and really creative.
  18. Those are great bags.....really like that they are lined. Try Cobra machines....Steve is VERY informed and can send you in the right direction. I own one and it is a great work horse and use it for sewing heavy leather. It sews a great top stitch and does a beautiful consistent job. Good luck!
  19. Right on! I am using Buffalo nickels for mine......they are beautiful when polished. Trying the smaller Mercury dime next. FDL
  20. Nice job....very crisp and clean. Love the two tone!
  21. Great tool....Are you using veggie leather as it looks very thin in the pics? I use a lot of chrome leather that I would like to put a tapered edge on....which many folks say is not possible. But your tool here may be the solution. Great tutorial thanks for the information! FDL
