  1. I made a shotshell pouch with center divider and just sewed it to the gusset - was pretty easy and I think the thread color made a nice accent!
  2. Granite slab is used when stamping leather - provides a solid surface with no bounce.
  3. I have a Fiskars rotary cutter and it works great! I bought extra blades on Amazon for much less than they cost at my local Tandy store, but I have not had to change the blade yet, so can't comment on whether they are as good as the factory blade that came with the Fiskars cutter.
  4. Thanks LouraLeather - the money clip has ridges as mentioned by nstarleather, so friction keeps it in place inside the fold. I stitched tight up to the fold to hold it securely. The pocket is lined - thin veg tan layered with the sheepskin.
  5. Thanks - I am going to try this design - looks like it will be easier to cut the pieces!
  6. Really nice shell box - looks likes one long piece that forms the front, back and bottom with two side pieces sewn on - is this correct? I have made a couple of similar shell boxes and I used one piece of leather cut into a cross shape and when you fold all the arms up together and see them up it looks almost the same as your case. Just wondering if your method is easier to cut out and sew?
  7. I bought a single action unit on Amazon for $12.99 with Prime shipping. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013SUTMVQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 works great for spraying dye or finishes. If you are looking to spray fine details when painting leather designs, probably should get a double action airbrush - will cost anywhere from $60 to $400. I have a Paasche double action brush that will cost you about $85 and it will paint far beyond my skill level!
  8. Looks nice - did you use a cut out from a box of ammo for the insert to hold the cartridges?
  9. Received my Stitching pony today - it's as described on Amazon and cost was $24 including tax!
  10. Same here - supposed to be delivered in 2 days...
  11. I went to Amazon yesterday using the link and was able to order the stitching pony for $22.99 w/free shipping. Will confirm when it shows up that it is the premium pony that is retailed at $99. Worst case if it was misrepresented or price changes, I can easily return it through Amazon. I was planning to make a similar stitching pony, but when I saw this deal, I figured that my time and material cost would be much more than $22.99.
  12. I've been buying Tiger thread from Egyptian Leather - search for that company name on Etsy. Excellent service and good prices on the thread.
  13. Looks very nice and I like the color - good job! How do you keep the phone in place?
  14. You are right about the paperwork. I used to do all of my own paperwork when filing sales tax reports to the state of Georgia, but since they kept penalizing me for incorrectly filling out forms, I finally decided to have my accountant do it all for me. They don't make it easy for a small business. One thing to keep in mind - if you don't generate much in sales, you are likely only going to have to file sales tax once a year. Of course you will have to do it monthly or quarterly for a while before they decide to change your filing frequency. I have another business that only sells wholesale and mostly out of state, and they finally changed me to yearly filing.
  15. Everyone has made good points and I appreciate the comments. I'm just happy to now know what model it is and I will clean and oil using the manual I downloaded and my wife can use it as a backup machine. I may even find some uses for it!
  16. Thanks Windrider - thread looks to be very thin. I agree with both of your comments - awl stitcher I tried once broke while using in thick leather, so I gave it up for saddle stitching. I wear thin vinyl &a cloth work gloves I buy for @$1.00 pair in bulk at Sam's Club or Harbor Freight to use when stitching - not only do they provide some protection against poking the needles in my finger, they really allow a good grip when pulling needles through leather. I rarely use pliers to pull a needle through.
  17. Beautiful workmanship Cedric - your stitching looks flawless to me. How did you attach the handle straps to the purse? Looks like the rolled handles are fully inserted under the "shields" that are stitched to the bag sides. The only type of rolled handles I have seen are flared out at the ends to form the shield, rather than making it in two pieces like these. I really like the way your handles look on the purse!
  18. Really nice job - stitches look very consistent. What size thread did you use?
  19. Thanks Wiz for your quick reply! Guess I will leave it as a conversation piece and will look for a machine that will sew leather. It sure is a nice looking machine!
  20. I went to Tandy Leather in Atlanta on Saturday and asked about the veteran discount - they said absolutely and signed me up immediately as a business level member. Just showed them my DD214. They had some really nice upholstery leather for $65 - looks to be @4-5 oz and @20 sq ft. I'm making a tote bag out of it, hope it turns out ok!
