  1. I'd like to make a few knife sheaths that are in popular but generic sizes. I'll tool them and do an inlay or 2 but, would like to make them for popular size blade(s) and handle/grip. If you have a blade length & width that seems popular, would you post it (and the grip/handle length)? I' going to sit a gun show with a friend and want to have a few sample sheaths. I've already made a custom one for my OldTimer. Thanks, Regis
  2. Kate & Oscar. Thank you both. That should solve my problem. Regis
  3. I finally tried the airbrush that I've had for for a couple years. Everything set up with compressor and I practiced enough to get a feel for using it. The BIG problem and BIG mess was getting die into those tinny bottles that attach to the airbrush. What a mess, I probably spilled a pint of die (various colors) on my hands, cloths, counter, and floor. I tried a funnel but, pouring a quart into a 1/2 oz bottle is still quite a balancing act. Funnel that I have (plastic) don't seem to clean very well either. Do you use different ones for different colors? I was thinking of trying a turkey baster. The end results are great but, I sure made a mess and wasted a lot.
  4. Foggy & muggy this morning & it's 68 going to 75 here in Florida panhandle. But, Thursday night it's supposed to drop to 39. .
  5. Jordan, Be sure to match needle size with thread size. I think there are a number of posts about that here in the forum. A store for non-industrial may not have anything useful for leatherwork larger than garmet.

Great peice and excellent work. Thanks for sharing
  7. Randy, Thanks. When I ordered, I asked if they were in stock. One was (1911) and I got it in about 2 weeks. The other needed back-ordered and took about 6-8 weeks (H&K P2000). I'd suggest just giving them a call.
  8. Tracy, There has been a number of posts for blue & red guns. I got 2 from theshootersbbox.com and 2 from eletetacticalsources.com. That's all I have for now.
  9. I posted a question today about finising on a holster. I had to choose between "dyes & finishes" or "Holsters & sheaths". Is there any plan in the works to allow posting in more than one area? There are so many posts now that even in "view new posts" it is very difficult to keep up. Thanks, REgis
  10. Here are a couple pictures of recent holsters. I made one in a more western style where there is a large peice of leather folded over the back. With that, there is a rather large area of flesh-side and I don't know if I should treat/finish it in some way. 2nd picture shows the back of the holster. What should I put on it if anything? Here is the back I was asking about. Thanks, Regis

Kevin, You have gotten wood grain to a fine art in leather. Outstanding work and cool idea.
  12. After reading many of the great places people have lived, I thought I'd fill in the blanks between Irwin, Pa. and Pensacola, Fl. Grew up around Duquesne, McKeesport, & Irwin, Pa. Airforce (62-73)- Denver, Co; McGuire, NJ; Hahn Germany; Klamath Falls, Or; Ramstein Germany; Giford, Il, Grand Forks, ND Civ (73-today)- Manassass, Va; Memphis, Tn; Corpus Christi, Tx; Pensacola, Fl (20 years here) That is simply toooo much travel except..... I married greatest little lady in the world in Memphis.

    Bonjour

Sylve, Welcome. I look forward to seeing your work. This is a great place to learn. Welcome. J'attends avec intérêt de voir votre travail. C'est un grand endroit à apprendre.
  14. Clay, Just amazing! I've gotten side tracked some on sewing but, carving is my desire. I need to back-up a couple steps and review your tutorials for "each" attempt and work slower. Still need to sew to get functional items done but, need to invest more time into carving (although I'd have to live to 103 to catch up to your embossed lion here) Thanks for leading & showing Regis
  15. All of you have nice shops and Luke, you're being modest. What about the other camera angles (and room)?? Mine is split between desk in my office in house and some counter space & torro in the garage.

    Hi Everyone

Adam, Welcome and looking forward to seing your work
  17. Jordan, I like that design and haven't seen it before. Pretty slick to incorporate stiffener into belt loop. Regis
  18. Really good looking holsters. What weight leather are you using and is it same for all the parts (body, stiffener, loops)? Thanks for the good photo's.
  19. It is definately NOT veg tanned. Never thought about properties in the tanning process that could damage gun. The leather is much toooo soft to holds any forming details. Folded and sewn in shap so gun only goes in the correct amount. Thank all, Regis
  20. I purchased a leather "bargin" year or so ago at Seigle or Hidecrafter or? I believe it is referred to as Chap but, I'm not sure. It's about 7/8 oz (estimate). The flesh side is like suede, very even, and overall it is VERY soft. It is a dark reddish brown but, when I cut it I can see that the color is on both sides but isn't completely through. I feels like it has perhaps a very slightly oil finish. Not knowing what exactly to do with it, I made a holster for a revolver that I have. Planned on using it just to get the pattern tight but, it I like the look. It is too soft/limp to be functional and wonder if there is any way to stiffen it up. If not, how about some suggestions for the rest of the hide. Thanks, Regis
  21. The answer is that there would be vastly different borders and probably our language. Our military is GREAT but, they honorably do follow the will of our people. Sure wish someone dug into and reported on news media as much as they do on leaders. We have very easily swayed recent generations and the greatness and honor of our past is being trampled and disgarded. You would be supprised how often our veteran memorials are vandalized. Sometimes I wish we could guard them with volunteer ex-military. After some brused and broken bone reports, the problem would end.
  22. Alex, Great topic. I've thought of this several times and although I'm not there, I have learned something about it. I don't believe my "style" is something I will work toward but, rather something I'll settle into. If that makes sense. Any time I try to come up with a style, I find that I'm simply emulating someone's that impressed me. Unique styles may be rare and when I reach mine it will probably be more suttle than the ones you mentioned. my 2c, Regis
  23. And they can not get it with their selected design(stamp) or even their initials for less than 20 bucks. And you can probably meet that.
  24. Boom, I don't understand "unprocessed shark". Does that mean that it is not tanned or?? And, I don't think that is too many steps. Thanks for all the input
