Haven't seen quivers like that in long time and never from elan. look really neat.

Today, I got a few "small" exotic peices of leather. The shark (just like the ones I've caught here) will sand your hand raw if you rub the wrong way. I want to use it as trim on a holster but, wanted to know if you do anything to smooth out the sharp feel. Also got turkey (leg) and lizzard. All small pieces and toooo pricey except for a little trim. Thanks, Regis

Monthly Figure Carving Challenge

I didn't notice the line wasn't there on the side of the mouth (Tina's). I tried NOT to look at finished ones. Whiskers....I'm debating about cutting or dying them...still not sure. I do like your idea of using pear shader. Still some life left in mine to cut so, we'll see. I "almost" made it a lynx!! -

Well, now that you mentioned it........ With 3 or more levels of hair showing depth is difficult for me. Not hard to show 1 or 2 but, on this figure, you come from the side of the nose down the face and neck trying to show that transition is tough. Also moving from fine hair to thick points that we see at the outer edge. Regis -

Clay, Do you want completed entries posted in this thread or is there some other way to post them? Here's how far along I am. Little more cleanup and start dying. -
Welcome Panther. Nice work

Kathy, After you click on the picture (actually any picture) and see it larger, just right click your mouse and a print option will appear. Select print an you're good to go. Of course, this is with MS Windows as I don'tr know about mac's. -
Airbrush
Regis replied to Mike's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
That is an outstanding web site Hilly, for those of us that never used our airbrush (or never used it correctly). How important is a paint booth and exhaust fan for airbrushing dye? For example, will there eventually be dye over my entire garage if I don't use booth and exhaust fan? Is the exhaust fan more for overspray or fumes? Thanks, Regis -
That is some excellent work. I really like the way you did the leaves. Overall great depth.

Ed, You sure have had "more" than you share of difficulty getting a portable in production. Sure hope this one works out and glad to hear you're getting good customer service. Customer service was non-existant where I got my Consew (specbrands) so I was lucky that everything worked ok. Best of luck, Regis -
Welcome krains. This is a great place to learn but I sure would love to be in one of Peter Main's classes. Enjoy

Scouter, Great peice of artwork. What was source of heat (iron, torch, or)? Thanks for showing

Covering rear sight ..... or not
Regis replied to Regis's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
This sight is pretty high up, about 1/2" above the barrel so that is why I asked. Thanks for the input. -

Looks just like my consew but, your's has a better paint job. -
I'm making a wester style holster for a Taurus 66 (Clone of S&W 29) with 6" barrel. It has an adjustable rear sight and I am wondering if I should stop the holster just before it gets up to the rear sight. Or, should I bring it on up to the base of the hammer. The sight mount is pretty sturdy but, I would like to know the right way. Thanks, Regis

Welcome jt and nice holster. A tribute to contribution of folks here plus your learning and skill. -
I've heard/read various times about opening the leather pores to accept leather dye. Would some of you please elaborate some on this? Is there a need with spirit, eco, or both? How much, with what, under what circumstances, etc?? Seen a couple video/dvd's on dying and they didn't include any "pre treatment". Appreciate any insight into this area. Regis
