I think what is happening is the color is coming from the oil in the leather kind of like putting neatsfoot oil on it and setting in the sun light.

I am in need of a article from The Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal shop talk January 2002 I have checked with them for that publication and than do not have that copy. I would buy the book if you have it and no longer need. I am looking for one article written by Richard Sherer on page 70 - 71 and 2002f, Two easy-to-make-benches: Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal, v. 12, no. 3, p. 10-12 . If anyone has this copy could you please P>M> me here. Thank you for taking time to look.

I have two stamps I've come across, had some Leather Masters look at them and they believe them to be F K Russell stamps I have had contact with Bruce Johnson about these already. These are not for sale but would be interested if there are any others out there that have knowledge of these, all info welcomed and does anyone have a ideal of there worth. I have looked on the internet a found very little info. on Russell stamps, I did find a catalog for Russell tool but they was not listed there I know these stamps are over 45 years old as they was in storage for that long at least. I think they would be 60 years with the damage to the end of them. Any help would be appreciated.

Rose Gun Belt And Holster
papaw replied to Hibbert's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
A Very Nice Piece of work there you should be very proud of that work. That is a very Beautiful set you made hope they understand how much work and care went into making it. I was shocked the other day when a customer picked up the knife sheath for their dad, and gave a 20.00 tip, really showed how much they liked it and the care that was taken making it. -
I don't think the burn mark can be repaired. Hopefully you just discolored the leather and didn't shrink it, you may be able to dye darker and the dye may help, can you cut that out and glue another piece in with a backer on it.

How To Burnish A Belt Edge If I'm Not Beveling The Edge?
papaw replied to Rancho5's topic in How Do I Do That?
If I was going to not bevel it, IMHO I would put a sealer on the edge to slow down the fraying for a while. Just my .02 -
You can order clicker die for use with a mallet for the lighter leather just let them know your using a mallet so they can do it right for your use.

Help! There Seems To Be Something Wrong...
papaw replied to Krystian's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
If you want here is home made Casing Solution Lexol 1/2 cup --- 1-1/2 cups distilled water --- 1 tablespoon baby shampoo (no tears) --- 1 tablespoon of the old brown colored Listerine ( I think any would work as long as there is no color to stain) Just if you wish to try something. -
Help! There Seems To Be Something Wrong...
papaw replied to Krystian's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Ok first have you cased the leather, some leathers are very hard and that said yours could be one of those. But that being said most all veg tan can be tooled. Wet (dampen) the leather with a clean sponge and distilled water (if you have distilled) if not tap water will work. Wait till the leather just starts to return to its normal color then try tooling it. Here is the start, you didn't say water you did to start you may have already followed these steps. Veg tan for a belt should be 6 oz. to normally 10oz sorry I do not have my metric chart with me, so it should be thick. Repost here and let people know what you have done and any pictures maybe worth thousands of words. -
Things I've Learned About Leatherworking Last Week
papaw replied to DoubleC's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
The best and most importation thing I have learned is that speed and impatients will do nothing but create anger and a very bad project costing money and time that was wasted. Slowed down and smelling the roses along the way now.
