  1. So have you lost the picture that came with the kit if not, the assembly sheet is there as it is glued together. But in case you have misplaced the sheet take a look on you tube there are videos there.
  2. And a very Merry Christmas to all of you be safe and enjoy your family.
  3. Anyone else hear that leather prices for Hermann Oak and Wickett & Craig will be going up 1/1/15.
  4. A Very Nice Piece of work there you should be very proud of that work. That is a very Beautiful set you made hope they understand how much work and care went into making it. I was shocked the other day when a customer picked up the knife sheath for their dad, and gave a 20.00 tip, really showed how much they liked it and the care that was taken making it.
  5. I don't think the burn mark can be repaired. Hopefully you just discolored the leather and didn't shrink it, you may be able to dye darker and the dye may help, can you cut that out and glue another piece in with a backer on it.
  6. If I was going to not bevel it, IMHO I would put a sealer on the edge to slow down the fraying for a while. Just my .02
  7. You can order clicker die for use with a mallet for the lighter leather just let them know your using a mallet so they can do it right for your use.
  8. If you want here is home made Casing Solution Lexol 1/2 cup --- 1-1/2 cups distilled water --- 1 tablespoon baby shampoo (no tears) --- 1 tablespoon of the old brown colored Listerine ( I think any would work as long as there is no color to stain) Just if you wish to try something.
  9. Ok first have you cased the leather, some leathers are very hard and that said yours could be one of those. But that being said most all veg tan can be tooled. Wet (dampen) the leather with a clean sponge and distilled water (if you have distilled) if not tap water will work. Wait till the leather just starts to return to its normal color then try tooling it. Here is the start, you didn't say water you did to start you may have already followed these steps. Veg tan for a belt should be 6 oz. to normally 10oz sorry I do not have my metric chart with me, so it should be thick. Repost here and let people know what you have done and any pictures maybe worth thousands of words.
  10. The best and most importation thing I have learned is that speed and impatients will do nothing but create anger and a very bad project costing money and time that was wasted. Slowed down and smelling the roses along the way now.
  11. Some very nice looking pieces there, I want to try some inlay but every time I think about it someone else shows up and trying not to be a slave to leather all the time I am suppose to be retired, but it keeps me out of trouble and the extra $$ is nice.
  12. Set up as much light around your work bench as you can to keep shadows down, if you are planning on standing a lot get anti fatigue mat. here is poor shot of may bench dirty as always, others here have some great shots of their work area. search forums HOW ABOUT PICTURES OF YORK WORK SHOP
  13. My bench is 32", but you need to set it up for yourself. You could be 6' 6" I set my bench up so most of my work can be done from my stool 28" I think, you don't want to create a issue with your back.
  14. The thicker the better 1-1/2 - 3" is the best I broke the first one which was 1-1/8 " and it was glued down and braced solid on the bottom.
  15. I have never made a box with open top, I am doing it with the edges (corners) being cut at 45 deg. then gluing and then saddle stitching. I am using 8 oz. veg tan. Do I set the cutback 1/8" to make the 45 deg. angle or a little less, what I don't want to have is a pucker on the edge. Also should my stitch line be 1/8"setback from edge. I am trying to do it like Nigel Armitage video. Don't run into a lot I can't find answers to on here, but got to much $$ in this leather.
  16. I think I would stitch it on or maybe put it on snaps
  17. I agree with northmount on that.
  18. I thank you again
  19. Try leather worker I think north side of Chicago, don't know if he needs more work or not. priceleather@gmail.com
