  1. I took the last class and as a new leather worker I can only say WOW I learned more in that hour than all the pictures. youtube and post I have read. Can't wait like I need another class, now I may becoming a junky. Really the class was the greatest in helping me to move forward with this craft.
  2. Was just wondering if anyone here has used Eco-Flo Professional Waterstain Pearl. I've tried to use this with some red to get a nice hue coloring ( the red by it's self is fine the pearl by it's self or over the top of the red is streaking ) and I did get nice color but, issue is whatever I do it's streaks the leather. I've tried dri and also to dampin the leather, used spong both wet and dry, dobber both wet and dry, circles and back and forth, mixs of 1:1 - 2:1 still can't get it right. Any help please.
  3. Very nice, I was thinking about a Steampunk belt and buckel when I saw your post. Like it
  4. How big is this going to be, I am a retired craftman and I can only guess how many you would have to make ( with all that would break) just to get 10 units. You have been given a lot of ideals I would try a couple and see. If not put a ad. in the paper and pay him by the hour to make them.
  5. Welcome great place for learning and sharing. I've a brother that lives in Estill Springs TN.about 45 miles south of Nashville
  6. I think your best bet would be to go to a home center they have small dowel type hole plugs some with patterns cut them down to the size you want, use small drill bit drill hole through one into the other side countsink the through hole side and glue and screw together and fill countsunk area with sawdust and glue mixed together or matchimg wood puddy sand and stain. P>S> You can glue the plug to a wooden dowel with contact glue to hold the plug to cut to size.
  7. I think if you wrap it to your body the stitch will be the opposite of the front stitch and away from your body and the stitchs will be the same front and back, that is casting a stitch (throwing) not pulling a stitch.. I think that is what i read somewhere, not that the shop so can't try it right now..
  8. Have you tried a stitching wheel to mark your holes for useing a awl. Thats what I use for my hand stitching. Just a thought..
  9. I have a 16' X 24' and with 3 benchs sander. drill press storeage area press w/out sewing mach I just do have the right size for now. Soild floor and rubber is amust for the feet,
  10. I use a linen polishing wheel that is stitched and white jewelers stick some times i'll use green but ihave other wheel for that. Please don't use for knives.
  11. The answer is yes to both questions. I used my belshew sharpern to burnish and polish my tools with buffing wheel. I even used it as a polisher to remove scratchs from the diamond punch that looked like someone used on steel, looks new now and slides in and out of leather very easy. My wheels do turn 3650 rpm.
  12. Thanks for the heads up I'll have to take a look.
  13. I like the pony the best as I tried both, so I made my pony to fit me and the way I so, but my .02 is stitching and watching TV doesn't mix well at least for me as I saddle stitch most everything. Again just my .02. Good luck
  14. I am looking at a singer model15-91 ser. # AJ055039 Built in 1949. It is rebuilt by singer tech Total new power coat. Question is how is the mach. for leather right now I am working with 2-5OZ. What size needle and thread. The singer book doesn't say anything about leather but have read it will sew leather fine. And would this be ok for some heaver leather like belts. To old and don't want to tie up money in something I don't know if I am going to like. I now do all hand stitching and mostly saddle stitch, but hands are starting to cause issues doing it all by hand. Thanks for any feedback

  18. You can use magnets on both side of your plastic stencils, and how about useing latex mask over areas you don't wish to cover.

  20. Thanks for the feedback. I was afraid the chauk would start to rub off i'll try that as it is flexable for when I start stamping on the marble I only have 12 tubes around for spring chauking job in the work shop. Any issue and i'll try the epoxy. Thanks to Direwolf, Dwight, Electrathon for the feedback great group as always. P.S. I will make sure it is good and dry before I put anything on it. LOL
  21. In the 1/8" gap , I proposed to made it a 1/32 high on the MDF. But the gap will be a catch all needles and everything. I don't know about putting chauk there, I thing that will cause issues.
  22. The weather has broken and warmed a little need to move out of the living room and kitchen. Have just built my shop bench with 1" marble 20"X 24" in the middle and 3/4" X 2'X 4' MDF on each side of it, bench is 116" long by 24" wide. The marble was cut a little crooked on one side and I have a gap of about a 1/8" part way down the first 10". The MDF I sat 1/32" higher than the marble, Can I use beewax or what else could I melt into the joint that would not hurt the Leather and cause issues dyeing or finishing. Thanks for any info.
