Trying Out My New Cowboy 3200
papaw replied to Chief31794's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Very nice work, looks you've been using the 3200 for years. -
The 14 and 16 are for 6 oz max. as far as I know and I think some places are not going to stock the 14 before to long.
-
If you power coated them you would have issues because of the build-up on cap and the stem.

I think you will be happy with your choice the nice thing with the thick blade is it will open up your cut line and make tooling it easier. The opening of the cut is one reason you need the swivel knife and easier to follow your lines for cutting, something I should have said in my first post. Good luck and have fun!!

call BK to order and he can talk about the second blade

Yes it will work just remember not too hard of hit, it will not deform the top the points are what you have to watch out for hit to hard and you could break one not because of the force but in the movement of creating that force with brass you'll not need the force because there is no bounce. I use my dead blow hammer 1 lb for the ones I do my is mostly awl work. NO NO metal under pricking iron - poly board with steel would be ok as long as poly is thick enought.

Did you dampen the leather or thin the dye, as I have heardblack is hard to get right need to work with scrap peices first to get the right mix going on. I have oly did a couple of black peices before but not tandys. I've oil the leather and waited 10 minutes and dyed. So I would do some testing on scrap first. My .02

I took the Paul Zalesak swivel class today and he says if you start with the straight blade and learn to use it, it will make useing angle blade easier and if you start with the angle it will be harder to pick up the points of carving with the straight blade harder. Also any long cuts with angle blade is harder than with the straight., just need to tilt the straight back farther. He is a pro and was using a 5/8 to do very small cuts. After watching him I tried my 3/8 straight blade and was shocked at how easy it was as I had used only the angle before. I have a BK 9/16 barrel and plan on going to 5/8 barrel soon because of my hands. the bigger the barrel the easier it is to control but the more you have to rotate it also, the smaller the barrel less control on some cuts but you also have to turn it lessin making the turns. That's what I learned today.

Substitute For Swivel Tool ? Need Help In Finding Another Way
papaw replied to louismoran's topic in How Do I Do That?
I have issues with the hands also,I have thought about sharping up my engraver or trying the dremel it may not work anyone else try it -
Frist off make sure the rivet is not to long if it is cut it off. I start by hitting rivet on the very top but not real hard, I then start hiting it in a circle to work it out around and even it out and flat.

Have you tried Ohio travel bag company I think they carry them.
-
Place beveller on your cut line tilt it back a tad and then it's practice practice practice and you'll hear practice practice all the time till you get what you want. Just tap tap you should not have to hit it hard if the leather is cased and you cuts are good.

That was because the navy didn't know forsure when it's date was. The Marine Corps has had precedence over the Navy since 1921 because the Marine Corps has been very consistent in citing its origins as the legislation of the Continental Congress that established the Continental Marines on 10 November 1775. In contrast, the United States Navy until 1972 gave various responses to the question of when it was founded, often citing legislation dating from its reestablishment in the 1790s. At the time the order of precedenceof the U.S. services was established, the Navy was using the dates from the 1790s, as its founding, and hence was viewed as a younger service than the Marine Corps. Despite several efforts to reverse the Marine Corps/Navy order of precedence in recent years, it has not occurred. In fact, the Continental Navy was created before the Continental Marines. On 13 October 1775 Congress enacted the first naval legislation providing for the outfitting of two warships. This marked the beginning of the Continental Navy, the forerunner of the United States Navy. Almost one month later, 10 November 1775, as an extension of that naval legislation, Congress resolved that "two Battalions of marines be raised." Following the Revolutionary War, both services went into abeyance. When they were reestablished in the 1790s, the reestablishment of the United States Navy preceded the reestablishment of the Marine Corps. An order by the Marine Corps Commandant in 1921 designated 10 November 1775 as the birthday of the Marine Corps. Over the years, the U.S. Navy cited two other possible dates as founding events, the legislation of 27 March 1794, "to provide a naval armament," authorizing the construction of six frigates under the War Department, and the act of 30 April 1798, which established the Department of the Navy. Despite the existence of these alternatives, the U.S. Navy for fifty years celebrated "Navy Day" on 27 October, as proposed in 1922 by the New York Navy League, in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt's birthday. The Navy had no officially recognized birthday until 1972, when Admiral Zumwalt, Chief of Naval Operations, with the advice of Vice Admiral Edwin B. Hooper, Director of Naval History, authorized observance of 13 October as the Navy Birthday Not that it matters they are there and All Are Honored

I don't know being new to leather work I look at it as you should learn to use the tools of old before you try to learn short cuts. Kind of like starting off with a sewing machine before learning any hand stitching. Some of the craftmans skills are lost, not everyone cup of coffee just my thought, learn and advance with skill level. You may need the old way at some time. MY .02

Purchased this from a friend to give to my American Legion Post. Ask all to remember, all that served and those that gave all. Wish I had been good enough to have done this myself.

Was just wondering if anyone here has used Eco-Flo Professional Waterstain Pearl. I've tried to use this with some red to get a nice hue coloring ( the red by it's self is fine the pearl by it's self or over the top of the red is streaking ) and I did get nice color but, issue is whatever I do it's streaks the leather. I've tried dri and also to dampin the leather, used spong both wet and dry, dobber both wet and dry, circles and back and forth, mixs of 1:1 - 2:1 still can't get it right. Any help please.
