  1. I had problem similar til I started using Feibings Pro Oil dye, then Resoline to seal/finish it.......no more rub off.
  2. I've been using Resolene (50/50 mix) and I'm liking the results. It doesn't end up having too much of a sheen to it.....more natural looking and I likie...
  3. I don't believe it has anything to do with "trend"...I built this one for myself without a "body shield" and the safety lever started working away at my side...leaving hickies.......not very comfy.... I re-made it with a shield and fixed the problem.
  4. Or....."think I'll post these pictures I found in a computer I found at a garage sale, and see if they buy it"
  5. There's a thread going on now on one of the gun forums regarding stiffeners....some swear by em and some feel they are not necessary. A couple things I've noticed about them.....a belt will soon form that s curve in them to conform to your body shape....a stiffener will fight that, and may prevent it all together....that will mean an uncomfortable belt. Someone stopped by with a nylon belt that has a Kydex like plastic stiffener in it....the belt got folded in half, got sat on...now the Kydex has a fold in it that won't come out so the whole belt is folded at that spot.....can't heat the plastic cuzz you'll melt the nylon before you can get it hot enough. The question I always have is, just how stiff does a belt have to be to do it's job?......I maintain two layers of leather equaling 1/4" (or even one layer for that matter) thickness, glued and stitched is plenty good. But I guess if you believe stiffer is better....rock on.
  6. Looks like a really nice finishing job......interesting reinforcement design....I'll be interested to know how it holds up in keeping the mouth open.
  7. Cowboy!!!...GREAT to hear from you again!!!! My main reason for posting this was to see if there was good reason why 2 layers of horsehide just wasn't needed....counter productive....overkill.....to expensive.....causes a rash........what ever.
  8. I've been making my horsehide belts from two layers of horsehide.....but in doing some more research on them, I see that some belt makers use one layer or horse, along with one layer of cow. My feeling on it is if someone wants a horsehide belt, it should be all horse hide, not this half and half business......but I haven't heard a good reason for the contrary. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.
  9. I believe OP in this case means Original Post.....the first one that started all this hub bub.....
  10. I had an egg-shaped hole milled in mine....the set screw tightens the tool against the smaller end of the egg shape....works great.
  11. I went looking for the Boss and ended up getting the CB3500 instead...it took another couple months to come up with the additional $500 but I'm so glad I did..... After observing a quality electric motor machine in action, I knew I would never be happy with a hand-cranker.
  12. Andy, just had a cup of coffee with your web site....very nice work! My fav is your Messenger Bag in the Raw. I bought one off the bay a few years ago with the intention of using it as a pattern to make my own....when I got it, I decided it had a lot of mileage left in it so modded it a little to "make it mine" . However, I'm getting a little tired of all the " hey that's a cool looking bag...did you make it?"........" ehhhh.....no"....so I'm just gonna have to git r done....maybe next winter.....:blahblahblah: I'm thinking I'll be "flattering" you...
  13. Nice going! I also use mine for edge stamping belts and guitar straps......and I have a new flat plate type makers mark I use it for too.
  14. There's a sub-forum here where we post our work and ask for criticism... This OP has nothing to do with political correctness......and it looks like rdb handled it accordingly.
  15. We all know those things exist......the point here is.....do you post a link to that guys web site and tell everyone to go see the junk this guy is producing and calling custom?
  16. Here's what I would suggest....go with a thicker leather: http://zackwhite.com/xcart/product.php?productid=17291&cat=653&page=1 I've been making lots of belts lately and for a really good heavy duty one, stitching two layers together that equal about 1/4" thickness is the way to go...that's easy for me to say since I have a machine....but these thick stirrup leathers are a very close second to what I'm talking about....
  17. Those cut-offs I see them trimming off must be what Springfield (and others) sell, eh?
  18. I've used the LCP blue gun (black actually) to make a holster for the Kel-Tec, and it snapped right in like it's supposed to....using 5-6oz cow (pocket holster)......so that's the same in my book.
  19. ...then there's customers that send their piece back because the maker forgot to stamp it with his mark.......ask me how I know.....
  20. How are us young guys supposed to get all queasy if you can't even show us a picture of the gun in the holster?
  21. I just got this one from Phillips (only $40).....I'm very happy with it and works great with my little 1-ton press...
  22. Yep...he taught me this: http://www.youtube.com/user/rgleather48?feature=mhee#p/a/u/0/2F-BhmQuQBY
  23. In helping my grandson further his budding video-ographer career...he's 9 yrs. old......I thought this would be good projects for him. I've been asked to do a keeper tutorial lately, so this comes in handy.... http://www.youtube.com/user/rgleather48?feature=mhee#p/a/u/0/2F-BhmQuQBY
  24. You do nice work...and that's a good sampling of it:notworthy:
