  1. You can see it very plainly as soon as you unroll the strip. For some pretty cool reading/research, I would encourage vising: http://horween.com/ I believe the only horse tannery left in the US......in "gallery" there are some videos and they explain the tanning process. The shell cordovan goes to the people that make $400 shoes, the scraps that is cut away from the shell, they call "strips". They sell that by the pound to the retailers that we buy them from.
  2. The pattern isn't always there, some strips I get are pretty plain jane. It's a cheap thrill for me when one comes in that has the "figure" like in these pieces. I would say leave it natural, or with lighter browns, tan, etc, and with a couple coats of Resoline, the figuring really pops. Note: black dye buries it and won't show up much at all.
  3. I'm surprised noone has mention these guys: http://www.thethreadexchange.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Session_ID=5ab44afe45f51d98bb9cec8a14e98767&Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=TTE&gclid=CO7p4ILIvaoCFQjc4Aod6QJ1XA I've had good luck with their products.
  4. I stumbled across this one today...check out the price. http://www.viridiangreenlaser.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=67
  5. Try a piece of calf skin in the right spot, it's thin and it's a little "grippy".
  6. I say yes....some.....the question I have is how much "some" do you need to make it work? Maybe it's "too big' enough you could soak it, mold it to the gun, and there may be enough to stitch another line closer to the gun.....but again, without knowing how much.......
  7. Without knowing just how loose it is, it's tough to recommend a remedy.......if it's just a "smidgun".....maybe glue some leather strips vertically, inside at just the right places to form a friction fit to the gun.
  8. I would recommend my source but at the risk of you trashing another supplier, I'd better not. Sorry about your friend.
  9. I chose to use oil dye myself but it's not like Ecoflo is a cause of cancer or anything......I had best results when I wet the leather down evenly, then use Resoline to finish it. Also I used it on a project I knew was not going to see much abuse and exposure to the elements. The color requested was not available in oil dye. When my favorite supply store first came out with it I stayed away because I hated the fact that I was no longer going to be able to get the Pro Oil Dye that I liked so much. Eco flo is not bad, just different.
  10. I use Weldwood contact cement and not too long ago my brother stopped by while I was gluing up two layers to make a belt and he asked if I was "getting high on that stuff"....and I couldn't even smell it anymore.....so I guess I'm not the one to ask....
  11. If you don't run glue ( contact cement) to the edges, you won't get the bond on the layers at the edges to get a good edge. In time the two (or more) layers will separate at the edge and form unwanted lines and gaps, ask me how I know.
  12. I bought the CB3500 from Toledo Bob last March and I'm loving it. I use it every day. I've had pilot errors, but no machine issues. When I do need some help, Bob is only an email, phone call, or a half hour drive away.
  13. I was recently asked to make a belt with a Velcro liner to work basically this same way...the holster has the other side of the Velcro (hook) and this is the only way this guy will wear his rig anymore. I didn't enjoy working with this Velcro liner.
  14. Looks to me like one of the advantages of this design over a IWB is you only have to deal with an extra belt hole or two, vs. a larger waist size in your pants. Nice looking holster.
  15. Great looking carving.....I'm gonna have to give that Sheridan a go soon...thanks for the inspiration.
  16. I really like that LCR holster, it fits the gun so nicely.

I had this made back in my reining days, but have no use for it now. The image measures 1-3/4" wide x 1-1/2" tall. $25 shipped, or trade for a tool I can use....like an edger, Barry King type.
  19. Shooter.....It took me a couple months to come up with the add'l $$ for the CB3500 but I'm sure glad I did. You won't like the teeth marks the 2500 leaves behind. Let me know if/when you come to Toledo, we'll do lunch !
  20. I use the same thing I did when I was hand stitching everything (Weldwood contact cement) and haven't had a problem....I make sure the glue is good and dry, but I've always did that. I think the only time you may have a problem is if you don't let the glue set up properly.
  21. Same machine...get the one from the dealer closest to you.
  22. School me please....I just picked-up a smart phone yesterday...is there an app I need to get in order to scan a QR code? Forget that...I just found the app, tried it and works!!
  23. Beautiful work!! WOW!!!
  24. What leather items do you plan on making?
