  1. It looks like an updated version of a Singer 29-4 I have on it's way to me. I don't know how much I'll use it but for the price (free) I figured I shouldn't pass it up. When I pick it up I'm taking it right to Toledo Bob for a once-over and tune-up. I've seen some demos on Youtube and it looks like something I'll have to make room for in my shop.
  2. Thanks you for all the suggestions.....lot's of research to do. I want to make Santa happy :-)
  3. I hand-stitched a belt once.
  4. Good idea Chief, I'll be exploring that option as well.
  5. I have a request for a bright red business card carrier....it needs to be Christmas RED.....it's for a Santa, so if I don't it right I'll be cut-off for life! I've seen attempts on cowhide but the result was not what I would call Santa Red.... Any suggestions? Thanks.
  6. I just finished up a couple belts and was wondering the same thing...I couldn't see the red coming...so think I'll just stick to my way, it's time tested and it works!
  7. What's wrong with my way??.....when you see a line of empty holes you know it's time to change bobbins.
  8. I came across a 211G151 that had been sitting around for a few years and not being used.....I was told by the then owner that the "timing was off", in other words, he couldn't get it to sew...... and he didn't want to put the $$ into it to get it right.....so the machine was mine for the taking if I was man enough to carry it out of his basement..... I managed. I dropped it off at Toledo Bob's yesterday and asked them to see if they could get it going right....and to set it up for sewing garment/upholstery leather as I plan to make soft string pulled pouches and other things.....they didn't seem concerned with the project, as they are built to last and built like tanks....and they had several other such machines in working order ready for new owners. I'm like a kid awaiting Christmas to get it back here........I'll report the results.
  9. I don't know about "most".....it's what the lower end makers marks are made from...$35-$50 range...and they do a good job.
  10. My stitching machine doesn't like those rawhide spots either.....but I've never encountered them with W&C.....just with some "imported" leather.
  11. Leather business cards, good idea, I like it.
  12. I agree with Lobo about Rob at the Blue Gun Store....excellent service. Worth a couple bux to know my stuff is on the way right now. Free shipping? I guess you get what you pay for.
  13. When discussing the difference tween the Cobra and Cowboy, I believe it was Wiz himself who said "ones brown and ones grey" Wiz, pardon me if I'm wrong.
  14. Randy.....try a Bic.
  15. I have one from Buckeye also, they told me I could stamp on wood with it...never tried, I'll just take their word for it.
  16. I believe they're meant to double as love handle reducers too.
  17. Great video and nice hand stitching...you look like Al Stohlman himself (cept for that wrap-around the needle thingy.) Thanks for sharing.
  18. Someone around here once said, one's brown and one's grey. I bought the grey one cuzz it matches my hair.
  19. Ran, congrats on your new machine...I have it's little brother, the 3500, and the honeymoon is still going strong after almost two years....hey that doesn't sound right, but you know what I mean. Try back stitching (in reverse of course) two stitches at your ends and see how you like em.....I say with the work properly glued, the stitch is there forever.
  20. This reminds me of what a very wise man once told me, "you're only as good as how well you can fix your ____ ___ (oopsies)" Just this morning I'm stitching up a belt on my machine....there must have been a kink in the spool of thread, I heard the knot go through the needle and had to shut er down.....cut off the frazzled thread, take some apart, and continue stitching after about a 5 minute pit stop.....the result...is it "perfect" ?...no, was I gonna scrap it? Heck no!!...I got r fixed and only a well trained eye can it.....and only if they look for it. Stuff happens.
  21. When a holster is too tight for a gun, the first thing a maker will have you do is place the gun in a freezer bag (or two) and holster the gun and let it set overnight.....still too tight? Do it again, til you get the desired fit....so where's the friction now that that the plastic bag has stretched out the leather? Retention is in the trigger guard and extracting port.....the rest may look good (if you want your holster to look like a plastic one) , but that's about it.
  22. Great looking holster! I be loving that HH.
  23. Eric, cool stuff, thanks for the vid. I would be very interested in following your progress in the video series if you ever get them off the ground.
  24. Which is why I feel good having Toledo Bob just a 20 minute drive from me......but usually a phone call is all it takes. I believe that if you were to ever visit his shop you would see that he is much more than a tension adjuster.
