  1. Yeah Ramrod, now that you know all this, call Toledo Bob, he's probably got one.
  2. That's the nicest looking wallet I've ever seen on this forum.
  3. Here's my dedicated bobbin winder...

    S-T Leather

I gave up on them.......got tired of the attitude.
  5. I've always thought there was something screwy about black thread...thanks for explaining why Wiz.
  6. Best Quality Leather Stitching Awl Available? the answer is Bob Douglas.
  7. I didn't throw my hand-stitching gear out when I went electric, nor will I ever.....but the Boss would have to be pretty inexpensive before I would buy it just to have one.....like maybe free, would do it. I don't make barn calls ...but i guess I can always use a good paper weight.
  8. I've learned to pass on projects that take me away from those things I do regularly and efficiently......as kindly as I can I let them know I just don't have time for experimentation projects. Usually I get a "I understand, thank you"...but when I get no reply, it's safe to assume I've POd someone.
  9. Try all you want...the back side will NEVER look as good as the front.....even the Grump shows that. Keep practicing, looks like you have a good start.
  10. I was using #23 with 207 and I was breaking lots of them...I'm sure it was pilot error, but I switched over to #24 and no more breaking.....and the stitching looks good still.
  11. Sounds good northmount....I believe such a DVD would be very useful.
  12. I've always thought it would be a good idea for someone to host a work-shop or some sort of class...but with us spread out all over the world, that would be costly for most of us to attend. Learning what makes a machine tick is also very important if we're to get the optimum usage out of our machines. I'm very fortunate to have Toledo Bob just half hour away from me...and a lot closer via email and phone.
  13. Sounds good, please let us know what you come up with.
  14. Good idea...most of the belts I make are double stitched....I don't think soft rolled will be a deterrent, but I'll be sure to order hard rolled for now on
  15. I've been full-time now for almost two years....I couldn't do it without a machine...an electric one, CB 3500 in my case.
  16. I don't mean to speak for Kayak, but if you don't mind my interpretation....to get around tight corners, or changing directions sharply, I "walk" the machine by hand turning the wheel, with a little help from the motor.....but before I lift the foot to rearrange the leather piece, I make sure the needle is in the upward stroke position so it's picked up the bobbin thread.....if the needle is not in the upward stroke and has not picked up the bobbin thread, you'll have an empty hole, with no thread through it...... Kayak and others will have the proper terminology to explain what goes on, but it's just how I explain it.
  17. This is what I do....make sure you raise the needle slightly before raising the foot, else you'll have just an empty hole....axe me how I know:red_bandana:
  18. I know hard rolled is gonna make for a stiffer belt, but does soft rolled still make a good one? I got some really nice strips in from Mavericks....cleanest and full of figuring I've ever received from a supplier....but it's soft rolled (my bad, It slipped by me in the ordering process).... Some people expect a horsehide belt to stand up in a corner...these certainly will not be doing that, but do they still make good support, for carrying? I would like to hear from those having experience using soft rolled for belts. Thanks!!
  19. I don't know about Steve's web site, I worked with him via his email which is posted above...here is Phillip's stamp:
  20. Same here, at first they (she) told me that they didn't mind smaller orders, but I guess they changes their minds.
  21. Jake, let me know if/when you try it out, I'd be very interested in the results. RG
  22. I saw an article somewhere on-line from a Kydex clip maker who was going to stop making them because he'd had too many complaints about them breaking. He suggested another, stronger material but I cannot remember which material it was. I was hoping someone here could turn the light on for me. I'm not liking what metal clips do to a thick leather belt so I would like to try something else...could it have been carbon fiber?
