I saved it as a glabels file format and can't get it to convert into a viewable file outside of the label designer program. It's kinda late and I am a little loopy so I will see if I can post one tomorrow.

I ended up going in a different direction used photos and just made them real small.

Any interest in going in on an order of cocobolo wood?
Jordan replied to esantoro's topic in Leather Tools
Shouldn't be any trouble with steel except some metals will turn wet leather black due to the chemical reaction between it and the tanning chemicals used on the leather. -
This section like all the others is here to allow sharing of methods and ideas that have worked, or not. Gets back to the fundamentals, free exchange between peoples of like minds even if a bit warped at times

Holster And Belt combo done
Jordan replied to Jordan's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thank you all for the kind words, the customer will be picking it up today and I believe he will be pleased that he will be able to wear it next week during the deer hunt. I suspect I may get some word of mouth orders but my price is definitely going up. He got a great deal at $255.00 I am thinking that $300 for a minimally tooled set is a good starting point, and increase from there. -
Nice saddles, equally nice to see ones that are not all tooled up once in a while. But what the heck do I know the only horses I get close to are of the iron persuasion.

Here, here, for the fellowship and free exchange of ideas from all those wonderful leather heads out there. And I like the photos, jokes and the smattering of sarcastic wit too. Life is too short to fret the small stuff.

I had an engine boat once but I had to get rid of it because it had a bad motor.

Yeh, I am still having trouble learning to sew with my Neels 5. Nothing wrong with the machine just me. My hand sewing seems to be progressing faster than my machine sewing. -
Hugh Lorwrie (sp) cracks me up. Him and Jeeves get into some real capers. Don't remember the name of the show though. "House" on channel 13 is also very good he had to perfect an american accent for that one. Highway is usually the 4 lane between cities and freeway is in the cities but we just call them parking lots. I think there are classes here like the filty rich, rich, wanna be rich, etc. adnauseum. Head is a nautical reference to a crapper and all classes seem to use them when the need arises, irregaurdless of class. I threw a "u" in there for the heck of it when you gotta go you gotta go. Archieologists will probably find a twinkie in a couple of million years, just as fresh as a daisy. Wow, my spelling is horible today

Does seem rather expensive, check out Macbeath Hardwoods. I think I got the spelling right. -

Well here it is finally finished and ready for delivery. Holster took 3 tries to get it right but the belt went together on the 1st try. It was alot of fun to make. It is 8/9wt and the liner is 3/4wt or thereabouts. Finish is hand rubbed Olive oil which was not quite dry when I took the photo so I will probably need to touch it up in the morning. the entire set was hand sewn with tejas white waxed thread. I started with W. Ghormley patterns which I modified somewhat, He does some great work with patterns and leather. The belt has 12 cartridge loops and the holster is formed to a Ruger 44mag Redhawk. Oh yeh The belt is sized at 37 inches at the middle hole.

Marketing your item on ebay, craigslist, etsy............

Seems to me nobody ran anybody off. It was your friends personal choice not to participate on this forum any longer. Seems like there was a lot more communications between your friend and others than was posted for the general members here. So if that was the case and feathers were ruffled that is a personal issue between those individuals and not something the general population would have control over. I did not read anything that was out of line or antagonistic but reading something is alot different than speaking face to face. -
leather for a police belt rig

That they rethought their clothing and equipment over the past few years is a good thing. When I was part of the green machine in the early 70's, the clothing and boots were some of the most uncomfortable things ever devised. -
Third Time was the Charm
Jordan replied to Jordan's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The customer only takes the revolver hunting and occasionally targets at the range. He wanted to make sure that it did not come out of the holster when moving through heavy brush. The thing weighs a ton so I don't think it would go anywhere. If it were mine I would not use any retention straps. That thing probably kicks like a mule, I will stick with my stealthy Bersa .380 Thunder. -
I don't think anyone makes a 2" I have a 1&1/2"

I'm sad...... I enjoyed reading this stuff. -
I have wet it, worked the pistol into the holster the put the whole thing in a vacuum bag suck out the air, work it with my thumbs and a tandy slicker or whatever is handy, about 10 min. then take it out remove pistol slowly and let it air dry overnight. Some of the bags have an embossed pattern that transfers to the leather. I put the holster in an open ziplock bag first if I want the leather smooth.

Yes I think a 44 mag would make some pretty big holes. Here are some photos of the belt that goes with the holster. I still have to cut a liner and sew the thing together. It's time to hit the hot tub my wrists and neck are killing me. -
Holster Dyeing & Condition
Jordan replied to paris3200's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
From my limited experience, alcohol will harden leather or give you a pretty good headache if you use too much. As far as curling, I noticed it happening on a few items I have made, (usually when I wet the piece with water but let it dry before I could tool it). After a lot of thought I realized that leather I cut with the grain did not curl but when I cut the pieces across the grain they would curl. And oil will soften the leather and retention will be a problem after a while. -

The retention strap is sewn on the back and come through a slot to the front right behind the hammer area and the holster retention loop is wrapped around it and sewn to the back. I wanted to stay away from as much metal as I could. The snap is in an area that ended up about 1/2" away from the revolver but I glued a thin disk of leather to the back of it anyway. -

Olive Oil -
Here is my 3rd try at a holster for a Ruger. 1st was too small, 2nd was a lefty and then I finally got it right. Now to start the belt part of the order. Hopefully I can make it in one shot. All hand sewn and I will be putting an oil finish on both items.and one more
