  1. I made a few last year oval and egg shaped and carved them into Peace signs. Unfortunately I lost the photos in a crash a few months back. Baby Boomer's loved them, brought back memories of being ten foot tall, bullet proof and out to change the world.
  2. A few I finished for Saturday, only 2 more days of the farmers market. Did pretty well this year and there was a lot of interest in my holsters and sandals, gave out a lot of business cards so maybe they will generate some sales over the winter months.
  3. Our little secret, the weave was done with a roll and hand crank embosser! I usually try to stamp, but it was late and I hadn't used the thing in awhile. The color is Black Antique Gel from Tandy with Leather Balm/Atom wax top coat. If I make another I am going to sew some faux wool on the shoulder pad for comfort and some on the tail end of the strap to protect the guitar from wear around the bottom button.
  4. Yes I think I will lace up the slider although the guitar already had a heater vent fall from the ceiling and put a huge ding and crack in the lower bout. Was a 16 hundred dollar Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Acoustic/Electric before the disaster. I am still looking for a competent repair person in my neck of the woods. I would tackle it myself but had to sell most of my woodworking/guitar repair tools last year to pay bills.
  5. Silly me I thought that only worked with jellyfish stings
  6. Look in some boating catalogs, I think they are called gimbaled cup holders, swivel in a bunch of direction like a boat is bound to do, or after a few at the local watering hole there is no telling which way people will sway.
  7. Late last night the bug hit hard, decided I would make a guitar strap for myself. The photos are not very good, I need to make another light box and practice a lot The guitar and taking pictures The slide adjuster is a square buckle I removed the center thingy from and used chicago screws to put it all together. The neck attachment is a store bought quick release strap.
  8. I can see you now teetering atop a stack of holsters If you get some threaded rod and washers and nuts for each corner you could insert the holster and pads the tighten down the nuts equally, I made something like that a couple of years back to compress the front shocks of a bmw motorcycle I redid, as they needed to be rebuilt and I could not find new ones.
  9. I used what was labeled 5/6wt for the foot pad and 10/11wt for the bottoms, all from the scrap table at the local Tandy, the thick stuff was labeled saddle skirting and I bought two 1/2" sandal buckles and two prepackaged bags of standard 1/2" x 70" (I think) strap. I did sand the straps down a bit on a belt sander to make them a little thinner and pliable. And the rest is history as they say I did post a bunch of photos of my last pair starting with a paper pattern through completion awhile back, I think it is in the other specialties section, but if you have any construction questions when making yours, I would be happy to assist in any way I can.
  10. Happens in every industry, Motorcycle accessories to leather, unfortunate but some are only in it (everything and anything) for the fast buck.
  11. The Leatherworking Handbook available at Tandy is a pretty good starting book. The 3 book series of Making Leather Cases is also good. Welcome and have fun.

    Doomcycle!

Figgered if I was gonna ride one might as well look cool huffin and Puffin down the road, 3speed does make it a lot easier, I'm thinkin saddlebags, seat, handgrips with tassles and maybe a center bag shaped like a gas tank. Electra makes them and they look pretty good.

Since we're on the subject here is my attempt to go green, save gas, and get healthy, they sure didn't have cup holders when I was a youngster. I am studying my minds eye to visualize some leather accoutrement's, gotta bring home the groceries after the mandatory stop at Starbucks, dang them for puttin one so close to the house.
  14. The straps are recessed in channels in the thicker sole piece, they actually fall in an area in front and behind the ball of the foot, some telegraphing through the leather is felt but not that bad. Thicker sole and deeper channel would eliminate it pretty well. Also the addition of some type of form fitting foam on the bottom of the top piece would help. Have not found any to try yet. I glued the top and bottom together after installing the straps, sanded the edges flush, gouged a thread channel (deeper on the bottom for wear protection) used a sewing wheel to mark the hole positions, used my neels5 machine (without power) to poke the holes then hand sewed. The guide I have is too wide to sew properly without running into the straps or sliding off the edge which caused deflection out of the channel on the bottoms of my last ones.
  15. The pattern is from a pair of cheapo zorries in the clearence bin at the supermarket adjusted to an outline of the customers feet, and the strap configuration came about after studying a photo I found online and lots of trial and error.(dremel sanding drum to make the channels) Thanks for the kudo's, I hope they fit and she likes them too.
  16. Just finished, got away with only minor injuries like a skinned knuckle and a couple of finger jabs Have to still punch the buckle holes when she adjusts the straps for a decent fit tomorrow.
  17. Killing two messes with one mallet! Here is an example of my benches usual state, and a pair of "Hey Zeus Christos" sandals I just finished, to be picked up by the customer tomorrow when I will do the final hole punches, Hope I measured right!. Olive Oil on top and beezwax melted into the bottoms, hand sewn and still fun to make after 3 pair.
  18. And I thought Novelty items were in the freezer section of the supermarket, Live and learn sum thin new everyday
  19. 20 Ton with 1" thick gum rubber is what I have read about probably the most. Never Ever use a real gun without a magazine in it as it has been noted that over exuberant application of pressure has bent the grip area making it a mold rather than a functional weapon. I use a food saver vacuum bag system that was gathering dust in the kitchen cabinet, works pretty well but some bags have a cross hatch pattern embossed on the inside that transfers to the damp leather. I solved that by placing the holster in a smooth bag first.
  20. Bandaids on your fingers before you start and those long eye's break at the slightest wrong angle when pulling them through the leather. Problem is thin metal of the eye just at the point that you are most likely to pull it out at an odd angle.
  21. Very fine woodworking skills, I like, and just as soon as I find me a 14" bandsaw I will be making one also. Just sold my atlas metalworking lathe so I have a few dollars to spend, but I want an old one I can refurbish. The new saws are pretty much junk, unless you spend alot.
  22. Mine usually looks like total chaos while a project is developing, can't seem to cleanup until it is done, then the mess starts all over again.
  23. I don't think it is your camera, it must be my eyes, cause I don't see no bear. That card holder is real slick though.
