This hobby/business really does drain the money pool, I have to also be very creative sometimes. I think your CFO and Sis are in cahoots. make them both something real nice and it will divert their attention.......for about 20 seconds

a few western holsters

Very nice work, no more lurking now you gotta post lots of pictures. That slim jim in the middle is cool, I like the trick photography unless that pistol is supposed to shoot around corners. -
Snaps on inside of holster/pouch
Jordan replied to Shorts's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I would make them a bit taller to cover more of the magazine, a bit wider to run a stitch down the center of the double and use a food saver vacuum bag to form the leather. With a little refinement they will look terrific. With a little more space at the bottom you could put a stitch line and sandwich the snaps between the leather curing the other problem you mentioned about exposed metal inside scratching the magazines. But then you would probably need to use 2 pieces of leather rather than a fold over. Food for thought? -

The tandy cell phone kits come with self stick round dots of felt that may work. May last quite awhile as a mag pouch would not be subject to alot of wear unless alot of shooting was being done. I add a bit of glue to the dot and so far none have come off. -
Huntsman's Bag

Very nice Shoounter bag with great color and shape. -
An ez up user comment, Mine has broken 2 bars so far just from the stress of setting up and taking it down. The struts broke right at the scissor joint(weakest point due to hole for the bolt). I ripped a couple of 1/2"x 1"x 40" oak strips and replaced them. so far so good. Unfortunately I have a sneaking suspicion I will end up with an all Oak upper structure eventually.

LOL, here's a lovely vision, a plant somewhere in Afghanistan where a bunch of old men with runny noses are filling all those little bottles for shipment throughout the world. Seriously though, gum trag is one of many things that can be used to slick the edges of a leather item. I have had pretty good results with plain H20 and a drill mounted wooden spool, beezwax, saliva, edge-kote etc. comes to mind. It's up to the artist as to what works the best for them I guess. Finished edges definetly give an item that finished look.

New Holster for a 1911
Jordan replied to BruceGibson's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
It is something on or in the leather, dirt ,oil, wax, could be anything and usually can't be seen until it's to late. Happens way too often to me even if I deglaze. Maybe I need to buy a better quality of leather and keep my space and self cleaner. Really a very nice holster great shape and top job on the stitching. -

Thanks very much for the info, I may try one when things slow up a bit. Seems to be too many pots on the fire right now. -

Those look fun to make, can you supply some details of the construction process? -
Harbor Freight Walking Foot Sewing Machine
Jordan replied to Dwight's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Most HB stuff is very low quality knockoffs of other well known tools, decent for what they are but don't expect it to last very long. Kind of like disposable tools, at least this has been my experience with the stuff they sell. Side by side comparison visually and the things that are "not quite right" will stick out like a sore thumb. Better to go with an artisan 3000 or something comperable. Spend the money up front or spend it again later I have heard it said. Again this is just my opinion, and am in no way an expert or affiliated with artisan. Have a Neels #5 myself. -
That one is an interesting twist. Space saver maybe? Kinda like buying half a horse.

It is a tandy stamp, part of their biker series Skull with an Iron cross in the background, it is a little difficult to get a good impression, gotta smack it real good without moving it. Some day I will get me an arbor press for those bigger stamps. No leather dreams yet, unless you count the ones I would have to list in the adult section They all sold today in the 1st couple of hours and I got some orders for more next saturday.

Very cool, I will post some pics of the one I am going to make, probably be awhile though.

They all love to touch and smell the leather, have not lost anything yet but it goes with the territory, PBAB and Bad JUJU will come back to bite the perp.

Surfing the web and found these pics I think it was at an antique sales site quite expensive if memory serves. I got some plans from Billy P. which I am going to build as soon as I can find a 14'" bandsaw I can afford.

Welcome, I carry Id for the same basic reasons, the right tools for the job are key and what I like is the right tool may not even be related to the craft. There is a healthy holster section so post away we all love pictures. Jordan

Thanks, I do need to find my pattern for a hair thingy shaped like a peace sign and uses a cuticle stick to hold it in place. If I was any good at skulls they would sell.

Guitar makers catalogs, like Stewart McDonald and also Grizzly Machine sells lots of that type of stuff, used to gauge top thickness, might be too pricey though.

gotta look good being wheeled away on that gurney. LOL. Your work is always impressive to me. thanks for the photos.

Don't know much about wrestling but they seem organized enough to have a rule book or something, maybe contact the organization and get some info?

Some batting (for padding) and heavy flannel material might work well. Had my 30-30 in one for years without any problems.
