Are you putting a trench for your stitches to lay down below the the face of the leather? try using a stitch groover first, then run your stitch wheel, this will give your stitches a recessed look.

Bob, what is that in the center of the cutters?

Sometimes the bobbin case does not align correctly with the shuttle race, I gently move the flywheel back and forth, while holding the bobbin case till it pops into place.

Allen, You said that you getting drag on tight corners. When I cut with a swivel knife the pressure on the blade is always changing , as I begin a cut it is deep and wide, and fades out in depth and width as cut terminates. When I cut scallops and tight corners , I spin the barrel of the knife and almost pause the motion of the blade at tightest point to where there is little to no pressure on the blade, this method reduces drag for me. I like width with on the bevel of the blade, as this opens up leather. You may want to practice this and see if it works for you. Steve

Does black leather shirting not last as long?
steveh replied to SITTINGUPHIGH1's topic in All About Leather
there are many examples of old bohlin parade saddles that where black from the 1920 thru the 1940's that have held up well thru the years. -
contact connie nagel, at campbellbosworth.com, he now owns randall company which includes union loockstitch.

Flathat, Your did a real good job. Your fringe looks excellent. How did you cut it? It has been my expeience to oil tooled parts before they are sewn on, and to seal them on both the front and back side with neat lack or tan coat. Other wise the oil can leach or bleed into the chap leather. steve

what size thread are you using on your bobbin? If you are using a large thread size it will not hold that much.Try using a smaller thread size.
-
If you want to line the belt, I would reccommend buying some liner material, kip or some 2 to 3 oz strap leather.
-
It helps if you moisten the leather you intend to groove, it is much easier to do and extends the sharpness of the cutting tip.

Luke , thread size 99 on top, and the bobbin 69.

Luke, I have a artisan servo motor on a31-15, singer 111w 155. The motor runs very quite, 1/2 hp, low /hi range button, speed knob, and a motor directional switch, it came with a small pully sheave, no speed reducer necessay. it has plenty of starting torque, very easy to controll. bolt pattern was the same as the clutch motor so it was an easy change over.
