  1. I just had this conversation with someone- that shoemakers and saddlemakers are like the surgeons and cardiologists of leatherworkers. (She works in the medical field and understood the analogy)
  2. For many of us, this was the first leather instruction book we saw. Note the title. When you open it, it’s about “leatherwork”. What do you call it, and why?
  3. I don't have all the forums and subforums set to show on the sidebar. If you click your name and go to your profile, you should be able to see all your posts.
  4. US Naval Leathercraft Manual - Leather History - Leatherworker.net.pdf I turned this thread into a pdf for those of you who are on limited connections, or want to review it offline.
  5. This is what we had before Al Stohlman and later, the internet. Thanks for sharing. This brings back some old memories of how little we had before the Reis family bought the Leathercrafters and Saddlers Journal, before the IFoLG. One of the oldest tradecrafts in the world, and it almost died out quietly, except for us diehard enthusiasts.
  6. Well, it's good to see you again. Are you still doing leatherwork? Life does come at us fast. ~J
  7. We are very pleased to meet you. Bespoke shoes are one of the most fascinating expressions of leatherwork, and technically complicated. Yours look outstanding. Please tell us more. Bardzo dobry ~J
  8. @Northmount You have unselfishly helped lots of people over the years. If I could figure out how to put a gold crown over your name, I would.
  9. This is exciting! Marked on the calendar! ((hugs)) Randy
  10. @bruce johnson is the man to ask about the older tools. We're gonna waive the price rules until we have further conversation so we can get this man's tools into appreciative hands for a fair price.
  11. It looks like the particular topic you linked was transferred into the Sewing Machine Forum by Northmount at about 8:30 pm, because he thought it would get more specific attention from you sewing machine experts there.
  12. It's like the old time infomercials in the middle of the night. "But wait! We can sell you a new magic database tool for a gazillion dollars, that may or may not work any better than what you've got! Call Ronco now and save 15%!" Follow Tom's advice to search the site by Google.
  13. I just searched "awl" and got nothing. I wonder if there is a setting somewhere for the online search function? Friquant has me off to the races again. Thanks for the heads up.
  14. go to the homepage leatherworker.net
  15. @friquant I'm going to be going through Little Rock in two weeks going to the Heart of Texas show in Waco, sponsored by the Leathercrafters Journal. Wanna have a cup of coffee? If anyone wants to donate to the site to get a warm fuzzy feeling, and a few extra permissions, you can use the "donate" box on the right side, bottom, of the page. (It's just a widget for PayPal to admin @ leatherworker.net. The most important contributions to the site are your comments, pictures, experiences, warnings, triumphs, lists and participation, and I am humbled by the way our community will jump in to help others. There are some great people in Leather Land, and they are willing to share what they know so the next generation can learn. We are 19 years old now, older than FB and X, and have collected the most useful leather info available on the planet. God bless you all. ~J
