  1. This interests me as well! Anybody got a source? Thanks!
  2. I don't do a ton of tooling but it seems that everyone who does uses mauls rather than mallets.
  3. OMG YOUR HOUSE IS UPSIDE DOWN! You should probably take care of that before trying to fix the sofa!
  4. I was skeptical at first. But of all the wallets I've made this is the one I use on a daily basis. It sits extremely evenly and is very comfortable! Good luck. Post up a pic when you are done!
  5. How much to make me one? If you are even interested.
  6. I love your modeling spoon aka toothbrush. Really man I want to try my hand at a homemade skiving knife but I don't have the tools to do it justice.
  7. STOP CONFUSING THE ISSUE WITH LOGIC!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't take it!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. I must not be old enough...but with the options out there now I can see no reason to use lead to punch into...just use a poly board? It doesn't make sense to me at all. If you want weight use tungsten not lead? I don't know but I wasn't even aware people considered using lead for this kind of stuff b/c the hazards of lead poisoning are so well documented.
  9. I am definitely trying this. Have a big ass spool of that Tejas waxed thread from Tandy. It is insane how much wax is on it.
  10. Thanks! I've been making so many "minimalist wallets" I wanted to make a big one. I'm carrying it right now and it fits really nice.
  11. Hello Leatherworkers, After Ducjecs posted his bi-fold template and tutorial I learned so much I really wanted to pay it forward. Here is a template as well as instructions on how to make a big wallet. Its big but its slim. I have it in my pocket right now and it's actually extremely comfortable! If you use my template and have a go at making this wallet please post it in the thread. I'd love to see what you guys come up with! Thanks for looking! Joe Big_Ass_Wallet_Instructional.pdf
  12. I can say already that the people I talked to at Maverick were awesome! Very helpful and courteous. I am very much hoping that the product is as good b/c I would love to deal them again in the future.
  13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azyCKOpdSo0 Here is video on hot stamping.
  14. I just ordered some B selection Horween from Maverick. I'll let you know my experience after I get it. I am at least lucky because I live very close to a tandy where I can inspect the hide before I buy it.
  15. I would wet mold both the outside and the liner separately and then glue them together. Alternatively you could wet mold the outside and do a french turned binding with the liner. Like this knife sheath...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZKxHdNIiP4 EDIT: If you wet form the lining separately from the outside make sure to put the lining so the flesh side is facing outward or else it will come out backwards.
  16. You will hear some conflicting information. There are people who have used olive oil for years and have had no problems.
  17. It's so very easy to linger on the negative in the world. There are great people out there. The important thing to remember is to pay it forward every chance you get.
  18. Dude the pink is awesome. Its not everyday you get to do something like that. That looks GREAT!
  19. This is what I need to do. Daubers are such a pain in the ass for anything that is a decent size. I've also had problems with spirit dye and water. I dyed something that looked dry but was obviously still damp b/c the sections of the leather that were wet came out much darker than the dry sections. Even after the item had dried completely.
  20. LOL. You can have it any color you want...as long as its black. I've totally done this.
  21. I would not try to dye them. I would first try some serious conditioning. I don't know anything about upholstery leather so I'm not going to recommend a brand or anything like that. I would start by doing some serious research about conditioners and which work best on upholstery leather.
  22. I second Dwight's recommendation for silicone caulk. Not only is it non-reactive but its very flexible and shouldn't crack or separate from pounding on the marble.
