Question On Finishing Procedures .
Hi Im Joe replied to Leprechaunleather's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I agree with the above. Finish all the pieces completely and then assemble. -
I disagree with this. Diamond shaped holes are diamond shaped holes. There are a bunch of other ways to screw it up. So just saying its not the right tools doesn't really offer a solution.

Hi guys and gals, So I bought some tan Chromexcel "B" grade from Maverick recently. It had a couple pretty rough patches on the grain side so I decided to do a couple rough out items because it was the only thing I could think to do with it. I have a two pocket bifold wallet as well as a card case. I used a wire brush to get that fuzzy look on the flesh side. Let me know what you think! Thanks for looking, Joe

No problem man. I wish those came in nickel.

http://www.mitchell-leather.com/Other_Products.php It looks the same as this one. So yeah probably placed on the outside but not sure if you crimp it or just use pressure.

Bifolds And Long Wallets
Hi Im Joe replied to KGV's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Did you stitch across the top of the bifold for looks? Or was there some functional purpose?- 19 replies

The unfortunate answer is it depends. For example, if you go bungee jumping and sign a wavier saying if you die blah blah blah....but the guy forgets to clip you to the bungee...that waiver is totally worthless. The more complicated question becomes is can negligence on the part of maker be proven in court. It's pretty hard to prove negligence but strange things have happened with juries so many times I wouldn't want to bet my livelihood on it.

Ah didn't think about minimum orders. Last time I ordered form them I bought a bunch of stuff so it didn't even enter my mind. Glad you found someone to help you out!

Unfortunately, you are as liable as a court is willing to hold you. Common sense does not apply to the law.

Yeah I don't think its the same design as Tiger Thread. Just thought you'd like another option.

Some people have recommended the Maine Thread Co. waxed polycord. I am going to buy some because you can get a bundle for 20 bucks and its made in the USA.

That's awesome! Great job!

I mean yeah. Why make it out of acrylic just to have to trace it and then cut it. Might as well just cut the leather. Now if only someone would send me an awesome laser cutting machine free of cost I'd get right on that.....(that's a nice fantasy).

Hello, I made my wife this bag for Mother's Day so she could carry around her new iPad I bought her for Mother's Day (she is an awesome Mom). I used Nigel Armitage's pattern to make this bag. Nigel's pattern is great and if you are interested in trying a bag this is a great way to get started. I used 5 oz Horween Chromexcel throughout. I stitched it with black linen thread at 9sti (my hands still hurt). There is a back pocket and inside pocket and one compartment inside. The buckle really looks crooked in these pictures but its not that bad. Its how the bag is laying (I'm too lazy to redo them). Overall I think it turned out pretty good. Cutting out the pattern was hard because I'm not used to cutting pieces on such a big scale (at least compared to wallets). I messed up the back piece and flap. I converted mm to inches wrong and ended up with a short flap but decided to roll with it instead of wasting leather. Let me know what you guys think! Joe

I measure everything and with a square piece by piece. It takes longer but until I can get vectored laser cut acrylic pattern it is more accurate than using a paper pattern. At least in my experience. Other's opinions may differ.
