  1. I know, old thread but, what thickness for the upper part and what did you use for the bottoms? I thought of buying vibram or solotech soles or something like these only in a sheet that I can custom cut..
  2. It's made of 100% expandable vinyl.
  3. I found the seat on mustangs web site and ask what the covering is made of and how to re-color it if needed.
  4. OK. The underside has some of the covering that is not exposed, I'll do some tests on it before proceeding.
  5. I bought a used solo motorcycle seat. It shows some signs of wear (scuffing) and fading. Can I sand the rough spots then dye it again the same color (black)? any issues I might run into? I think it's made from synthetic glove leather, it could be vinyl, not sure. Thanks Tony
  6. I bought one similar on Amazon for $10 prime. It wasn't sharp so I put an edge on it, we'll see how it holds up.
  7. Excuse! I don't need no stinking excuse...
  8. I'll try that Dwight, I have a small anvil, that may work. Tony
  9. I think I have a piece of wood I can cut to size.
  10. I was afraid of that. I'll have to come up with a way to support the leather while tooling. Thanks Tom
  11. I'm going to make a cell phone case, and I want to tool the front part. Is there an easy way to calculate the area to be tooled so it is centered? I have the fear I will tool the leather then wet form just where it bends around the phone only to have it not centered. Or should I do the tooling after forming? Tony
  12. raw custom - I found serving thread, it seems to be made of fishing line material and is round. The largest size was .031". Have you used this?
  13. I would be interested in this as well, but for thiner leather where the pattern has many curves.
  14. I have read this here; apply neatsfoot oil and put it in the sun.
  15. OK Mark, I'll try that. Thanks
  16. ramrod - I agree, I also am looking to replace tiger thread for cheap. Maybe that doesn't exist. I did contact SLC and inquire if they could look into handling tiger thread. The response I got was they would look into it.
  17. I bought a ultra fine black sharpie, it worked great for what I need. I'll buy a kit with many colors next time. What is the difference between the regular sharpie and the oil opaque sharpie?
  18. Has anyone tried Main Thread's cotton braided cord? It's not waxed but that can be easily fixed. http://www.mainethread.com/Polished_Braided_Cotton_Cord.html I sent for a sample of colors and sizes. I removed 1 of the 1mm cords and put it between 2 pliers and tried to break it, it held up fine. I don't know how this would do for hand stitching leather goods. They are limited on the in between sizes I thought.
  19. Interesting Billy I'll look into this.
  20. I found that out, and the tape didn't stick. The tape I used was OLD 1/2" masking, I'll try some blue painters tomorrow or suggestions?
  21. Yea Bob I have a big black sharpie I use for edge coloring. I never thought of using sharpies for detail work.
  22. I'm just learning this 'hobby' and have a lot to learn and more practice and experimenting. I have an airbrush, but only used it to do some practice lines. I run it off of a tank only, then when it gets low I have to drag it to the garage and fill it. I am looking at airbrush compressor/tanks for purchase maybe next year. This 'hobby' sure is expensive! I bought a pack of sharpies that have fine & extra fine tips. I'll test them soon. BTW nice strap.
  23. I'll buy some sharpies, thanks.
  24. Thanks Bob.
