  1. I didn't mean to thin neatsfoot, sorry if it sounded that way. Can I mix the dye (thinned or not) into the neatsfoot then apply? thanks for the reply, these will give me a starting point.
  2. I have been reading a lot here but can't seem to find the answer I need. I am making wallets and phone holders for now and want to dye and oil them to keep the leather soft. At some point I'll do some tooling and wet forming. Is there a formula for thinning the oil dye with alcohol? I read here someone puts their neatsfoot in the microwave then apply after dying, can the thinned dye (denatured alcohol) be mixed into the neatsfoot then apply both at the same time? Thanks Tony
  3. It's tanned glazed pig from SLC. I was planning on doing a test piece just in case. Thanks for the reply C
  4. I'm about to make a billfold for myself and have some pig for the inside pockets. I'm not real crazy with the color so I'm going to dye it. Anything different I should know vs dyeing cow? Tanks
  5. I found a few dealers that sell hides that have "drawn grain", what can I use this for? I'm still a newb and trying to understand the different types and their uses. The hide I found is cheap, so I thought I might try this so if I screw it up, I won't be out that much. My main interests now are; wallets, cell phone cases and holsters. The wallets and cell phone cases can be CXL or veg-tanned. THX Tony
  6. Was that made from a black river lazer (BRL) template? What thickness of leather did you use for both pieces? I have BRL template for their small semi auto, and I'm a newb so I'm asking questions before buying leather so I won't have something useless when I done. I'm retired, so the funds are used sparingly. I plan to put a backing on mine, so how will that affect the thickness of the leather used? I didn't intend to hi-jack this thread but your holster looks a lot like the one I will make, simple and functional.
  7. http://www.thethreadexchange.com their size 277 is tex 270, waxed and many colors
  8. miss v - not for sale, I just wanted to know what I had.
  9. I'm just learning and have plenty of veg tan scrap, I'll pickup some cheap pig skin and try this before moving on. Thanks for the suggestions. Tony
  10. Thanks chief, I will try it.
  11. I know, it's a 4 year old thread but this is good info. This sounds great to me, but if the leather will be formed (wet) will the water effect the glue?
  12. How do you do the colors on the letters?
  13. Nice. I'm still learning, how did you keep the die from darkening the tooling?
  14. That was a really good video, this will work nicely. Thanks Joe.
  15. First Project: I want to use 3/4 oz for the outside and kid or pig inside. The inside will be glued. I want to wet form this after it is done without any stain/antique or sealer finish. Will the liner detach from the outside if it is soaked in water? If it will, describe a better way. While writing this I suppose I could wet form it before stitching and then add the lining, but I want a tight fit, it won't have a strap to keep it in the case. Tony

  18. I sent them an email asking about my order yesterday (4/15/14), when I get a reply I'll pass along any info for future purchases.
  19. So the lead time is over 2 weeks as stated on their web site? I ordered mine 3/27 and have not heard a word when the expected ship date will be.
