Request for an education. Recent purchase of a Cobra 29K-18, and I am having a terrible time figuring out the threading of the bobbin. It can't be this difficult on purpose to get the thread under the spring. The tension between the upper and lower is very finicky and I am yet to get a good stitch. To those that own one of these machines, can I get some mentoring and guidance? What are the limits of the thread weight that you use successfully? And, any other secret that you may have recently learned. Thank you all.

Most leggings are waxed canvas. They will shed the water and debris but dry out quickly. Easy to make and maintain. Canvas, a good choice.

Thank you Andy. I figured that's what it looked like. I just wanted to be sure. -

Hmmm, well even laying flat is suspect and optimistic on days if it's a fast mover. I guess I ws asking Andy, but now I'm embarrassed and shy. -

Interesting, as I just made four as gifts yesterday, but out of heavy canvas and round. Can you unsnap and lay flat for me? -
I vote for Tinker too. He now seems a bit obsessed with the glue and licking thing. I'm not ok with this anymore. Strangely I feel a bit dirty and I can't place why.....

Funny/sad Story About Tandy Leather...
okiwen replied to Dougster's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I too would have gather the stuff back up and returned it. Place a stop on the credit card. I would still let the head office know and tell them that the $2k you spent will be the very last. The nerve of that person if profound. But....it's all up to what you feel like tolerating. Even now is not too late. Everyone has an opinion, and now you've heard mine. -
Most certainly meant as a joke and I am sure taken as such. Also, was not asking advice. None the less, Good group of guys...in public and on PM. Back to machines...... A wealth of knowledge to be found through very generous list members.

Ya know, I think I meant the interests that Art has listed....but if your knowledgeable, I guess I could ask you too. See, you ARE helpful.

Yup to both of these. I needed information and asked on here and called Keystone. Got great info and ended up buying a new motor and a whole bunch of stuff I really didn't need yet, just because I appreciated the help. If I am ever in need of a bondage item I'll call Wiz. Had my eye on a new machine from Steve since I had to sell the Artisan he helped me with when I bought it from him so long ago. Good group of guys here.

Watch Strap Prototype
okiwen replied to cjmt's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I am soo very glad to have stumbled upon this thread. I am glad it was resurrected. It is just what I have been searching for. I wanted to make straps for my sons and I could not understand why they were demanding such high prices. I will make this thread and come back often. I have been searching for articles or videos that would teach me what makes a truly awesome band from a $20 band. I greatly admire the craftsmanship that so many here have. I didn't know that I needed a pricking iron. Well, opportunities just keep coming. -
Hackaday, Thank you for the reply, that is just what I am talking about. There has to be "rules" somewhere for proper fit and placement without reinventing the wheel. I am very interested in your findings as you work it out. Perhaps using bone structure as a guide?

Every time I look at flip flops of any strap construction I wonder about the placement. I think there has to be the ideal place for the strap to be for a secure fit, otherwise, why go custom? Generic, Ross Outlet would suffice. On a $185 custom sandal, what make this particular set SUPER comfortable and worth the money? Where should the straps be on the foot bone structure for perfection? After all, I don't have to settle for one placement fits all if I am making them, right? This question has plagued me from the first thought of making sandals.

That's what I was looking for!!! I needed strap placement! I can trace around a foot, but since I dont' wear sandals really I don't know what the "sweet spot" for the strap placement is. If you find out, please let me know.

I am so behind paying someone for the talent they have worked so hard to gain. But, being realitic also plays a hand. I can see that if the person is good at what he is doing in may take 3 hours from start to finish. Less if he is using clickers and so forth. That is $66/hr. That is a pretty good wage. Of course the person has to pay for the lights and the tools. Still just the same, a good wage. I hope they are busy all day long for that salary. God bless them. Just plain too much for me to justify.

Thank you for your reply. I will continue my search for the perfect sandal.

I have been trying to get instructions on the measureing for a pair for my daughter for a while now. I know it doesn't look like a difficult project, but I hate to do things "less" than they should be done. Any input from shoemakers out there? What is THE very best construction and fit instruction available. Why can some get away with cahrging $200 for a pair of sandals. They must be GREAT.
