These holsters look very much like the holster I bought from Tucker Gun Leather probably two years ago. Great holster by the way. I wish I could find ANY way to improve it so that I could make some. I find no fault to correct though.

I have not solved my problem. My wife has had a run of surgeries and I was switched to day shift for the Christmas season which between the two stopped all work. I will report once I have found the problem. It is not the bevel however. I took the ring out to clean the race and put it back in the same way it came out. I hope to get back on the machine asap. The refer. door is a very good suggestion as well. I am willing to try all that might solve the stitch skipping. Maybe I need to downshift as I enter the turn as well. This would give me the power to leave the corner without the hand assist.

There are a few saddle makers in the Flathead valley around Kalispell as well. Earl Twist has been making saddles around here for probably 30 sum odd years.

Dave, Thanks for your reply. I am not afraid to use the phone, I use my machine most times in the dark of the night (after your office hours). I appreciate that there is a learning curve to each machine. I am down for this, I am just wasting LOADS of time taking stitches out and so on. I will try to get to the shop at a decent time. I purchased a Artisan 3000 not so very long ago. I am not a production worker by any means but I try to use it as much as possible. I seem to be spending most of my time with my hand on the fly wheel to catch it when it skips a stitch or begins to tie a knot or some such crap. Very frustrating. Now, I know there are more expensive machines out there that claim to never ever skip a stitch, but I thought over 2 grand was pretty expensive to begin with. Has anyone else had this problem? I have no complaints with Artisans customer service I was just wondering if this is par for the course or if I'm just lucky. I also seem to have a power problem. It won't stitch often and I have to start it with my hand. Thanks in advance for the insights, kevin

That really is a good site. I'm not part of the Barry fan club here. I don't own any of your tools (yet). But with that site i problably will. It is easy to navigate and see what the impressions look like. Keep the prices reasonable and I'll start saving.

What is different about the Brazilian style? I just got back from working the PBR and their ropes looked the same as ours.

Elton, You have two left to build? Well, that's planning isn't it? I would assume you know how to braid them then. I also have always wanted to learn how a quality bull rope is made. I would consider purchasing you rope if it comes with instructions for baiding the best bull ropes ever. Why would you stop braiding? Kevin

Those are great. I was just doing research on how to make a bosal. Can deer rawhide be used with success? It seems like the splitters/bevelers are a bit pricey at $400 dollars. Is latigo ok around a stiff rope core? Is latigo the same as redhide? Thanks for the answers PS really impressed with the talent around here.

I have a fried that would like me to make a saddle pad with dense rubber foam under the bars for her. I guess she saw one at a horse clinic but the price for the pad was over $270. I am making a saddle for her so I thought I could do it all at once...with your help TIA

Why don't you buy one from Ron instead? After all, it is his idea and design. I also bet that if you spent the same amount of time on a saddle for your customer you would have more than paid for the stretcher. Do you think that you can get the parts and assemble this in the, oh...four or five hours that your time would be worth to pay Ron for it? I know Ron and he is a pretty good guy. I bet he would love to help you out here and you both would benefit. And the bottom line is it truely is my guess that you would be ahead in time.

My mentor says that for the most part "No". He feels that his customer would feel 'ripped off' if he didn't include it but they have no need for it. It is his experience that ropers might find the use in that a hard hit on the rope puts stress on the horn and causes lift on the back. But...not many rope this hard or this long to require the rear cinch. Still, he includes one with every saddle.
