  1. looks good mike! remember to recess your stitches. you dont want them busting loose.
  2. micheal, shoot me an email or somethign with your # an I'll try to have ya over for a bit this weekend to pound leather.
  3. pete is exactly right. you want to wet the leather and then let it return to its original color but still feel cool to the touch. if the leather starts feeling warm, or at room temp, re wet itif your swivel knife starts to drag in it, check the moisture content, and then strop your blade. good luck
  4. I was thinkin on doin a sunday morning get to know each other kind of breakfast or coffee thing at sheri's on airport way.after that, if anyone is interested, we can head over to the tandy leather factory for a little private uninterrupted shopping, at a special rate for the group only. no john Q public to contend with, no lines at the register. just come in, find what you need, and enjoy business prices on everything.let me knowif this works for everyone and we will work on setting up a date.

you have a business account so tandy prices will still be better than oregon leather. although oregon leather has a bigger scrap bin.
  10. what I do with my leather goods is oil it down with Bee naturals #1 saddle oil, let it sit for an hour or two, and then treat it with thier RTC. this provides a finish which seals in the dye and helps resist moisture. check it out, its worth it. bee natural has some very good items on the market for leather goods, including leather amore, and pro carve casing concentrate.
  11. I have yet to make a saddle, since I am building up my experience tooling and repairing saddles, before I tackle making one, but a customer of mine, who routinely does inlaid seats says that he uses memory foam. not quite sure where he gets it from, although he said he has a good supplier. but it works good, and is very comfortable.

    Leather Guilds

well I have been doing a little work on the leather guild issue here in the pacific northwest, and have come up with a sign up list that has been posted on the window next to the front door in the Tandy Leather factory here in portland. if anyone is interested in joining a leather guild for the pacific northwest/ portland oregon area, please send me your information and I will add it to the list. once we get a decent list generated, we will concentrate on meeting times. the meetings will be held at the leather factory, and we will use those meetings for elections, generating ideas for classes, or anything else that is decided. bob stelmac of the PSLAC has already told us that once we are formed, he will post us in the rawhide gazzette. it will be really cool to get to know some of you and be active in a group that I have a positive interest in. you can shoot me an email to place your name on the list, or send the store an email. portland@leatherfactory.com ATTN:guild
  13. I agree with grumpy, a stitching groover would make it look good, but it looks good now too. just add that extra pop to it. that an the person that is carying it wont have to worry about having it restitched cuz they caught it on something an busted a stitch. if you do get a stitching groover, also get an overstitcher to help you evenly space your holes.keep up the good work. how about a tutorial on the braiding?
  14. I agree, i would love to see photos. I am originally from wickenburg, and would love to see ANY photos, even ones from around town. thanks

welcome ian, good to have you here.I was just thinkin, what are the number of people that have joined since the great crash? hm. maybe this is a question for johanna. I promote and tell EVERYONE about this site, especially when I am at work. good to have a site for resources on the things I am interested in.
  16. I use the saddle makers groover, just for the simple fact that it was readily accessable to me. I have a few of the osborne groover blades for the compass, but dont have the compass, yet. I also have the freehand stitching groover, which I can use with a protractor or cardboard template for unusual lines.

    Barry King tools

yea, barry is going to be a little back logged since he just got back from the wickenburg show, and probably has a few orders to fill.you'll love them, as do I.
  18. roo was nice enough so send me a photo copy of the tooling desk. thanks though.
  19. you dont have to be a pro to buy barge, you just cant purchase in larger quantities without a federal tax ID number. you can still get a 2 oz. tube over the counter. tanners bond rubber cement or contact cement works good too, but I stick with barge, as I feel it is the best on the market.

    Lace pattern??

looks very time consuming to me. I know that when saddle makers do it on a saddle cantle, they use rawhide usually, and then a metal band to help it hold shape and to accent it.the look on this seat is the same, but with leather and no band. im impressed. as much time as the maker has into this seat, he probably charged a bundle. love the flames too.what is the purpose of the braiding on the top front of the seat?
  21. ohio travel bag has what you need, and more. check them out!

you may look at cancelling your order with them, and ordering from barry. he is a nice guy, and will take good care of you.his number is 1-307-672-5657
  23. ok, dont take this to heart, but you need to do a little work on lining up your lines on your basket weave. other than that, assembly and sewing and everything else is spot on.as for larger pictures, I love them. I want to be able to zoom in and see small details. so dont listen to the person that is being a critic, posative re-enforcement is whats needed, not cutting someone down. keep up the good work.
  24. good grief, thats enough bling to make snoop dogg jelous! LOL
  25. wow, those look really great! excellent job! one thing i might suggest, is use a bit of old rawhide to lace them together, so if the cowboy gets hung up, the chaps will break away. that way he dont die wearing them. other than that, WOW!
