  1. My 3000 doesn't leave a mark. From my understanding, they've modified the standard mfg. parts to do what we want. and need. Depending on the leather, the bottom stitch looks as good as the top. The servo motor is a gawdsend, it'll go as slow as a turtle through molasses if you want it too, and zip through a length of strap faster than you can cut it off the hide. Artisan set it up beautiful before shipping. I'm convinced it'll sew plywood if I wanted it to. In the beginning I had some troubles (user ones), Steve answered the phone each time , no lovely on-hold music. He was in no hurry, he talked me through it, and offered 16 other suggestions to boot. Sounds like a great guy. Between the service, the price and the product, there's only one company I'll deal with.
  2. As an IT kinda guy, I will testify to the fact that Microsoft's IE is THE most unsafe internet browser out there today. It is at least 3 versions behind the safety built into Firefox, Opera, or Safari . If you can afford to pay three times the amount for a Desktop, or Laptop, go right ahead and buy an Apple, it is safest so far, overall., although Linux on a PC is the equivalent in safety, and a lot cheaper. If you use Firefox, make use of the extensions available!!!!!..."No Script", Adblock, etc, fortify your internet usage. Disabling Javascripts, etc. There are things you can do to protect yourself. You are right Anne, it's most often the User...lol. This year, though, there has been an increase in Sites that will manipulate your box to their advantage. And they are nailing even the most seasoned Surfer. With the increase in Apple sales, there is now an increase in problems to their OS also. Downloading AVG (or its equivalent) and initializing its Internet protection will enable you to see the phishing sites, and potential malicious code placers, especially right in Google searches. Google just pops up anything related, and hackers take advantage of that by working hard to get their sites listed on the first page of a search, thereby tempting you to click on their malicious sites. AVG has a little icon on each link that will warn you. To a person like me who depends on searches, this is gawdsend. I've had to fix too many peoples computers over the years. I built my first computer in 1982, and had my first network in 1985. I spent close to 15 years in IT, as a lead Network Admin for Fortune 500 Cos., until I couldn't handle the 24/7 anymore. Now I just do Leather. Spend most of my surfing here on Our Forum, I know it's safe here...LOL Sorry for the rant, just in that kind of mood.
  3. Long live the "Rat Fink"! Great job
  4. Simple, download Firefox!
  5. Humdinger! I've liked that "howling wolf" design since you showed it.
  6. Welcome, torrbuidhe!. If you've been lurking for awhile, I'm sure you found the sewing machine section on this forum. Just about every type machine seems to be represented here. Look for Art's posts, he's a veritable encyclopedia of information about sewing machines. Don't forget to post pix of your projects, we all learn from each other.
  7. Sounds like the perfect way to spend two weeks! It looks like you did just enough work..not too much, not too little. Nice job the projects, I'll bet you keep 'em, not sell 'em.....
  8. You need to set up a Merchant Account at your bank. They will set it up, and charge you. Probably around $200 or so between the fees for the acct, and the card slider. Then they charge you $15 a month or so monthly. There is also a fee from the card co. say 1.5 - 3%. Theyll have booklets and such to show your options, including being able to accept online. Generally, they have several tiers for this acct, depending on your needs, or wants. Each one is a different cost. I have the cheaper one...for each sale to be protected, I have to call the 88 number, and register the numbers before I give the card back. It takes a minute, but it protects me, and the card owner. This really is the proper way to do it. There are some options online that maybe preferable, but if you have a relationship with your local bank, at least you can deal face to face. Ever since I got it this time, Ive only used it twice. So, it can be an expensive, and running cost, if your cliental is mostly cash, or checks. But when you need it, you need it. It makes the customer feel as though you are safe to buy from, for returns, and merchandise problems. You will be able to take cards over the phone, which is a plus.
  9. Well. for starters, you can get all the books and templates from Tandy. They cover all the basics. The next thing, or even first, is to read as much as you can on this forum. There are hundreds of comments, and posts to how people have dyed their projects. When you go trying to copy sheridan patterns and their colors from the likes of saddles, you'll find the saddlers use all sorts of ways, from just oil and sunshine, to spraying oil dyes, then covering over with antique dyes, or some may use what's called "highlighter". Read all the saddlery/Sheridan topics for some in depth discussions. Under the motorcycle section, you'll find the same variet, one guy even uses motor oil....
  10. Well, that story indicates people were having fun. Humans really are quite resilient. I hope you and yours didn't suffer any damage. California, land of the biblical plagues.....
  11. Nice Hat!...lol
  12. Angelus dyes have a pink for suede. They also claim to make special colors for you. I don't know how much you have to buy for the special colors, but they might be worth calling. http://www.angelusshoepolish.com/cat3.html
  13. Try this Billy: http://fonts.goldenweb.it/pan_file/l/en/fo.../g/default.html If you enter your text, a page comes up with the sampelized text. It looks like the right size for what you want, then just print the page, and you have your Lettering. They also offer a CD/DVD for a small donation... Hope that works for you.

    New Head Knife

That's a beaut!. I couldn't figure out your design, until I saw the picture of you holding it. I'm not sure, but that looks like an ultimate control of the blade, with the hand wrapped around the whole thing...might just work real well. The minus might be hand cramps over long periods of time cutting? Not sure what the serrated notches are for?
  15. Let me be the first to steal from you. I really like 'm. Nice work. How bout a picture of the insides, if they have pockets and such? THere's nothing wrong with giving it away, sooner or later the karma will come back, tenfold.
  16. THey look great. Sort of a "roll your own"...lol
  17. Keep your secrets to yourself, if you want, but post us some of them fine pictures.
  18. That's just a real beauty. You should be proud.
  19. Look, People are people...good and bad in everyone. As far back in times as the medieval days, the little beggahs were swiping things off the town vendors. The only time I worry about "misappropriation" is when I am in the booth alone, which is more often, nowadays. When the wife, and I, and friends did bigger shows, a few years ago, there was a lot of interaction with customers at the various stations within the tent. They still got a few things, but mostly smaller, keyrings, etc. Alone, all it takes is one distraction, and they gotchya. Now that I've started in at a fairly big flea market type show, I'm going to have to somehow tie down the bigger articles. Mostly, I have lost the little things, a keyring here, a bracelet there. Not too bad, but it's pesos out of my pocket. I shrug it off, though. Just the price of doing this kind of business. Instant Karma's gonna get you.

    Okie-44

Welcome Aboard Oakie44. You just found the friendliest place on the Internet. Stay away from the Donuts, and you don't have to put the toilet lid down after use. We live for pictures around here. Feel free to post as many as you got. We all learn from each other.
  21. I think the Peace Sign ones are Great! Good luck tomorrow. I hope you sell them all, and then have to make twice as many right there at the show.
  22. Thanx for the pictures, Tom! I thought it would be like that, but I wasn't sure. They do look good, that's for sure.

    Round Lace Supplier

I haven't tried that place, but here's a place that sells kangaroo round. should be stronger: http://www.riorondo.com/leather/laces.html
  24. I really like that design..very different. Making wallets by hand can be hard. MFG ones have an advantage. They use very thin split leathers, and machines to skive even those leathers, for folding over edges. Nothing better than being able to make exactly what you want.
  25. I like the design layout on this one. Someone should be very happy with this bag. Nice of you to help out OutBackP. IN this thread there is a simple explanation of how to post a pic that might help sheridanman: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=230
