Hello ! What are the measurements of your portmanteau ? / Knut

I have an Adler 205-374 with a needle positioning motor, and I wouldn´t trade it for anything. Weaver Leather sells a set of harness makers presser feet for 28:50 a piece, and I think that is very cheap. Thay also have throat plates and all you need for the machine, Adler is genuine European quality, and it will serve you well. / Knut

It started in Germany, during the twenties and thirties, when the theories of the Ayrian race began to develop, and glamorous pics af the Ayrian people were produced. I guess Hollywood has a part of it too, not to mention reenactors and Swedish Ice Hockey fans wearing blue/ Yellow horned helmets watching the Ice hockey World Championships, ( when Sweden whippes the US team in the final.) hehehehe There is only one helmet found in Scandinavia ( Norway), and it did not have horns. http://www.angelfire.com/wy/svenskildbiter/armsandarmour/mailshrt.html I found a Swedish document on the web about the myth of Viking horned helmets. It is named " A study of the non- existent" But ......There are exceptions: American Vikings still have horns on their helmets - and they are existant ! /Knut

Knut

Slaughter Free Leather Not Selling As Expected

Lasse, I can assure you that all healthy milking cows in Sweden are slaughtered for meat production when their career as milk producers is over . You´ll know when you chew a chunk of "leathery" beef ! / knut -
Slaughter Free Leather Not Selling As Expected
oldtimer replied to Johanna's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
What makes you believe that a cow that died a "natural" death would be happier than a cow that is slaughtered ? It probably died because of illness, maybe a long procedure. Dying, either way, does not make one animal more happy than the other. The cow that was slaughtered maybe had a happier life than the one that died in the pasture ? -

It sure is, but it could be even better . We had a suicide bomber - the first one in Sweden - in Stockholm City yesterday. Quite a shocking experience in our daily life. Fortunately, my old log cabin shop is a peaceful place - that is , those days when I remember the saying "measure twice, cut once" :-) / Knut

Shot a pic of my shop in the dark. I thought I´d share it with you and wish you all the best and a Merry Christmas. / Knut

The tool on the left is for cutting a channel and the tool on the right is a welt cutter. A welt plough is something different . Both tools are shoemakers tools. / Knut

I have aJuki LU-563 and like yours, it will sew just under 3/8" . I have not had any of the problems with stitchlength that you describe, so I suppose your machine had some worn out parts. I think the Juki 563 is a versatile machine as it has never failed me. Just my two cents. / Knut

Correct ! But, in the Swedish Artillery we counted 6300 mils for a full circle. / Knut

I´m with you Tina ! I LOVE my metric system that make sense all the way... Unfortunately it seems to be a Mission Impossible to convert all these stubborn Americans into metric ! Not to mention the advantage of metric threads - one logic system , no UNC, UNF ...... I must though admit ( it hurts ! ) that inch is a practical measure in saddlery and leatherwork for straps and buckles. It is much easier to remember 1/2", 3/4" .... than 13 mm , 19 mm and so on, but that is the end of the line! . / Knut What a great topic!

What Type Of Oil For My Class 3 Cobra
oldtimer replied to RMB Custom Leather's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
A big concern of mine are the health issues connected to hydraulic oil. A Google search reveals that there are many additives in hydraulic oil, some of them cancerous, which tells me that I should avoid it , if there are other choices. I called a sewing machine company today, and they suggested CRC Power Lube ( with PTFE) . What do you think of that lubricant ? / Knut
