  4. A couple of years ago I saw an ad in our local paper, the town library sold out their library card cupboards, so I bought two (= 48 drawers made of hardwood.) There were no bottoms in the drawers so I made them from 3 mm plywood. Then I put on labels and it made my life easier. I have rivets, buckles , u name it in them, and the best thing - I know where to find them. Also , the drawers have a built in stopso they won´t fall out. / Knut
  5. From my experiences with the Boss sewing machines I´d advice you to find an old model, cast iron Boss. I have had two aluminium frame machines , the first one sounded like it was filled with gravel right out of the box, and it didn´t work. After some problems I got a new one and it functioned a couple of weeks, then the jump foot mechanism broke, which caused the needle foot to break. I ordered new parts, put it together and sold it. Then I managed to find a used cast iron Boss ( it was not used, as the owner had no idea on adjusting tensions!) and it is like a Swiss watch, no malfunctions, it sews without problems year after year . The only thing I´ve done to it is installing a take up lever spring, to keep tension of the top thread during the whole sewing cycle. (part # AR-49) The difference between the old Boss and the "upgraded" version: Old Boss has a cast iron frame and the inner parts are made of machined steel . The new model has a aluminium frame and the inner parts are made of zink castings, a difference like day and night! (Also found out that Tippmanns customer service ends at the US border, sad but true!) / Knut

  7. The handle of a head knife is often too long and you´ll get a better control if you cut a piece off the handle, then round off the cut, and it will fit your hand better and you will get more power to push and control the knife, as it will place your hand closer to the cutting edge. Al Stohlman has described this in his book Leather Tools. I have tried it and it works. / Knut

  10. Linsskydd, do you make those for the sniper version of the old Mauser M 96 ( the M41). It seems that a lot of those old rifles have spread out over the world. I have shot a couple of thousand rounds with the old M/96 when I was a young boy. They were sold as surplus for~ £10 ( 15$ ) at that time. / Knut
  11. The mark " KA 1 - 4K" on the clam indicates that it belonged to 1:st Coast Artillery Regiment - Company #4, in Vaxholm, just outside Stockholm. KA 1 never had horses, but I guess there were a lot of equipment made of leather at the time, which needed a saddlers care. The three crown is the logo of the Swedish Armed forces and almost all equipment had the mark. ( also the swedish ice hockey team has this logo) Thank´s for sharing the pics! / Knut
  12. A stitching clam like this? / Knut
  13. The bonus of socialized health care is that it covers ALL people, rich or poor . We have it in Sweden since long ago,and I really wouldn´t call it a disaster, so I guess you have to make one exception, or at least half a step back, from your statement , Tex. /Knut SORRY; OFF TOPIC ! but I couldn´t keep my mou.... .....

  17. The rich tourist walks into the hotel in a small village. She puts a 100 dollar bill on the desk and goes to check out the rooms. The hotel manager takes the bill, and goes to the butcher and pays his debth. The butcher pays his debth to the farmer for the meat he bought. The farmer pays his 100 dollar diesel bill to the owner of the gas station. The gas station owner owes 100 dollars to the village whore, so he pays her off. The whore goes to the hotel and pays her 100 dollars for rooms she had rented. The hotel manager puts the 100 dollar bill back on the desk. The tourist returns. She didn´t like the rooms so she takes the 100 dollar bill back and walks away. Sens Moral: Nobody has earned a cent. Everybody are free from debths and look forward for a bright future. What do you think?
  18. Are you sure it is not a Ralide tree ? If so, you can order a new tree from Ralide Inc, and the leather will fit.
  19. Weaver sells "The leathercrafters Bible" by John C. Simonds and it covers a lot, techniques, tools , machines. A good book for a start!
  20. I started out with a 1" granite slab. Then I made a wooden frame out of 2"x 4", same size as the slab, put the slab into the frame, bottom side up and then filled it with concrete and reinforcement iron bars. That way I got a 4 inch stone with a granite top. Important: The mould must be level ! / Knut
  21. Howdy! My suggestion is that you´ll instead try to find an old model ( cast iron ) Boss. I have had two alu frame machines and I was never satisfied with them, gears and needle feet broke etc etc , so I ordered parts, repaired them and sold them cheap, just to get rid of them. Then I found a used cast iron Boss and it works all day long without problems. Also I don´t think steel parts in an aluminium frame is wise. The frame will take all wear. / Knut
  22. Congrats Ginny! Never ever turn the wheel counter clockwise ! Happy sewing! / Knut
