  1. I wonder if there is a scaled up version for moose and bear? I would really need one ! :-)
  2. Yeah, maybe a kind of slingshot that shoots the squirrel carcass out out of the pelt ?
  3. I guess you have been using an air compressor for skinning the squirrels ???? What an opportunity to make a special fast draw holster for a squirrel skinning device, a must for every squirrel hunter!
  4. Today I traded my old doghouse and kennel net ( dog moved to dogs heaven a while ago) for a modern Singer sewing machine stand and a clutch motor. Good trade as both of us thought we got rid of old junk ! Took the table from the treadle stand and put it on the "new" stand. looked for and finally found a speed reducer I knew I had "somewhere", so in the next few days I´ll have a second 45K motorized and running. I´m still wondering of the use of the special needle plate in the box but I guess it is that part that makes it a Special version!? / Knut
  5. Thank you for the info , Bob! (the machine started earning money today!) :-) / Knut
  6. There is a number : 91790 on the bottom side, (no "SIMANCO" label), and on the raised part, attached with two screws and with the square opening for the narrow feed dog, the number is : 91791.
  7. Bob, on the pic there is a needle plate with a guide and the feed dog for this plate. The needle will barely touch the edge of the material. What is it used for ? Also, the conical "thing" to the right, what is it ? / Knut
  8. In US currency I gave about $150.
  9. Picked up the machine today ( been on a vacation in Denmark last week) and cleaned it up. The most obvious differences are : The flywheel is heavier on the KSV49 than on the 45K21 and the needle plate is flat on the 49 and domed on the 45K21. I threaded the machine and .... it sewed perfect (without any adjustments,) better than my K21, so they changed places in my shop. / Knut
  10. I´ll post some pics when I get it, maybe next week ? When checking the Singer website for parts, there is no 49 model ?? Strange, but the metal sign on the machine says KSV49. / Knut
  11. Thank´s for the info, Bob. Yes, It is good to have spare parts for these old warhorses. I am looking forward to recieve the "special version" 45. / Knut
  12. What is the difference between a Singer 45K21 and a Singer 45KSV49 ? I already have a 45K21 and I found a 45KSV49 (on a treadle stand) at a price I could not resist . Are parts interchangeable between the two machines? There were a lot of parts in the deal, more than 100 needles, 3 different roller feet, 7 different presser feet, 2 shuttles , different needle plates , 15 bobbins, a needle bar and a lot more. I´m really happy with the deal! What does "KSV" stand for ? and are the parts in the two machines interchangeable? / Oldtimer
  13. I have had two Boss machines, one aluminium frame Boss and one cast iron frame Boss. I got rid of the "upgraded" version, aluminium Boss because it was too inconsistant in funktion and parts broke without reason, and in my humble opinion it was a piece of junk right out of the shipping box. Then I bought a used cast iron Boss from a California leathercrafter , and it has never failed. The difference between these two models: Alum frame Boss has all inner parts made of cast zink, and the cast iron ( old model) has all parts made of machined steel, and that´s a big difference! Also I modified the cast iron Boss by installing a spring (Boss spare part # AR-49) on the take up arm pin, which keeps the top thread in tension during the whole sewing cycle. My advice is : go for a used , cast iron Boss if you plan to buy one. To make life more easy I built a big wooden, flat bed attachment for sewing bigger projects / Knut
  14. Here is an example of a ground seat in a half seat saddle. A tin plate bottom covered with a couple of layers of leather. You can also use rawhide instead of the tin, old fashion way. This is my way of doing it, and there are more ways, as many as there are saddlemakers. Also a pic of a low budget saddle, still rideable and useful, although there is no seat at all. (I guess this saddle style was the start of the expression " a pain in the ass" ?) Good luck, hoping this will help on your project / old timer
  15. Hey Tom ! I got the Norwegian leather magazine a couple of days ago. Now you are a well known leather worker in Scandinavia ! Congrats ! ( also noticed that my name was mentioned in the article! Thank´s!) / Knut PS. And watch out for those groupies, all they want is your pale body!
  16. Bondage and restraints ! Hobbles sounds nicer ! / old timer
  17. Send "gesa" a PM on this. Shen is in the business in Germany so she might know about age of this Stübben saddle. /oldtimer
  18. I agree, Yonatan ! The saddle has the typical South American look , so I could bet a dollar or two on that !
  19. All the animals at Moose garden are taken at young age, when their mothers have been killed by traffic, so they are fed by hand from the beginning. I know what a mad moose cow with a calf looks like when she attacks, as I have been to it a couple of times. Furious is the word! It makes your body produce such amounts of adrenaline that you could supply an emergency unit at the city hospital during the whole snow shoveling season !
  20. The idea of driving or riding a moose is old. King Karl IX ( the 9:th) who reigned Sweden during 1550 - 1611 had an idea of using moose for his army , a moose cavalry regiment. It didn´t turn out well as the moose scared the horses. He later forbid riding on moose when two prisoners got away on moose back and they couldn´t be captured, riding too fast for a horse in the woods. We have a lot of moose in Sweden and Scandinavia, about 100 000 are killed each year during hunting season in Sweden. Here are some moose pics - NOT photoshopped ! ( Crazy Swedes! ) Also an URL to one of my neighbours: http://www.moosegarden.com/228-16-112.html / Knut
  21. Here is a pair of mexican spur straps that I got as a gift from a mexican saddlemaker. A double thread is used. / Knut
  22. Guten Tag, Jens! Hertzligen willkommen to the board! / Knut
  23. That´s waterbuffalo horns !
  24. The oz value ( ounces/ square foot) indicates the thickness of leather. Here is a conversion table: Laederiet in Denmark, might be a source, not far from the Netherlands. www.laederiet.dk Hope this will help! / Knut
  25. If you look for bridle buckles for the civil war period Weaver has the #121 SB buckle . / Knut
