I know the lines are not perfectly straight and the buttons are out of shape but she loved it. She put it on the spice drawer in her kitchen. It is the only drawer that needs a handle, she did not like just regular handles so asked me to do this. A couple coats of Neat Lac when I was done and hopefully it will last.

I do leatherwork not a computer guru. I have been trying to figure out all the ins and outs of Photo Bucket but have not got it done yet. I will be working on it. Most of the computer is done at 5AM with an IV of coffee. I think I will double the price for upholstry in the future. Once installed I plan on getting a few pictures. I was asked to recover different parts of a 1956 Chevy Pickup a guy takes to car shows. I guess I forgot to get the pictures of the visors and headliner posted but here are the door panels. Those look great. I have been wanting to do a Bible Cover with a cross on the front with the wood grain. If mine turns out half as nice I will be happy. Again, great job. Joe

This is like taking your car to a mechanic and saying, I already have the parts, will you fix it at a discounted rate? Most mechanics will charge extra for supplying your own parts. Maybe say something like, I pay "whatever amount" for these clips and I can take that off the price but if I use your parts, there is no guarantee on the product.

I have often thought of this situation but have never faced it. If she wants the money back, tell her she can sell the saddle or leave it for you to sell. Under no circumstances does the saddle leave your possession until paid in full. If you sell the saddle, there is a commission for that service. We have to do things like this to protect ourselves from people like her. I have had people complain about prices but when I explain the process, they seem to be ok with the price. I have a whip to deliver today that I replaced the handle in. I told the guy on the phone what it was going to cost him. He seemed to have a little "sticker shock" but after telling him what I did seemed to make it better. We will see. Just my opinion like everyone else here. One day, by combining all answers to this problem we will all have the perfect way to deal with difficult customers Make sure to let us know how this turns out. Joe

Thanks Mike, I appreciate it. Brian, I am by no means an expert braider. The knots are my weakness so I stuck with the ones I know on this project. Needs to be delivered quickly. I have to admit, the turks head below the pineapple knot is covering the string where I tied on the handle braid. The lesser of two evils I guess. I do appreciate your taking time to look and let me know what you think. I will look at these knots you mentioned and practice them. Thanks, Joe

A guy brought me a whip to replace the handle. I had this handle made out of oak, cost $10.00. The braiding is a 16 plait, the top button is a 5 X 4 Turks Head doubled. The knob is a pineapple. I know there is room for improvement but that is why we post here. Joe

I braided a couple of handbag handles for scissormedic and finally got the pictures downloaded. Someone had asked to see them but I can't find that post. These are eight strand round with a core and then to an eight flat on one inch solid brass rings.

I understand that anything more than U2 O2 will be loose and hard to pull tight. I would recommend staying with the U2 O2. A six palit should be around a core. The strand you are working goes around teh back and ends up in the side it started from. Clear as mud? Joe

I have a friend looking for a supplier of the high density foam used to make ATV and motorcycle seats. Anyone here be able to give me a few names and contact info? He is a mechanic at the Honda shop here and repairs the seats that come in. He jsut happens to use me to do all his stitching. Thanks for the help. Joe

I have only made four dtrand reatas and have not used a core. I use four strands of about 1/4 inch and it has worked well. Joe

I'm thinking you would want to make a possibles bag out of deerskin. Through Tandy you can order that or they even have cowhide that is thinned and tanned as "deerskin". I know nothing about that product as I have never tried it or even seen it other than in flyers. Remember to post some pictures when you make something. Joe

The local saddle maker/shoe repair guy had one of the Weaver splitters and he is ready to send it back. He has talked to Weaver about it and they don't seem to understand what is wrong with it and he can't explain it. I have encouraged him to take it to Sheridan to let Vernon look it over and adjust it but he is a little or a lot bull headed about it. I'm not trying to give Weaver a bad rep or anthing, just what I am seeing here. The new splitters that Marvin makes do not have motors. They are hand crank so will take up less room. The older ones he put the motors on.

I was just looking at the Ferdco.com swap board and there is one of these splitters for sale. Looks exactly like mine. Just an FYI to those who may be interested. Joe Marvin's splitter sounds ideal. I've braided purse and handbag straps for people. I do a round braid that comes to flat through the rings and braids back into itself. I'm working on a set now so when done I will try to get a picture on here. Joe

Very nice, Holly. I want to thank you for sending me the pattern a few months ago. I started making the roses two weeks ago and they are a good money maker. Easy to make and since I have a splitter, I am using up a lot of scrap. I will have to adjust the pattern and make some smaller ones.
