  1. Dont forget Harbor Freight for cheap punches, and even cheaper nitrile gloves -- usually 5.99 or 7.00 for a 100, and on sale all the time! Know someone with a lathe? Edge Burnishers are a breeze to make, show up with some dry tree branches for them and stand back as the shavings fly! Know some Amish or Mennonites? I got about 3 or 4 pounds of beeswax for 7 bucks -- needed remelting and cleaning but so what? Dont forget yogurt cups for dyes and finishes.Dollar Tree is another place for cheap and useful supplies!
  2. Thanks for the insight -- going to use some of this for collars for my 2 cowdogs!
  3. Was given a bunch of pieces of this, not sure what kind of leather it is. Very heavy, was told they thought it was some kind of saddle leather. Its pretty thick, using it on a cowdog right now!
  4. Working fine with 4 to 5 cards per pocket. Seems a lot stronger than i expected it to be. I dont think it will rip or tear anytime soon.
  5. Wish I knew -- i dont think there is a correct way. its what ever looks right.
  6. Not the greatest, but was doing a prototype -- edges need finish, was in a hurry -- thanks to BikerMutt, for helping me with tools after all mine were stolen!
  7. I REALLY REALLY wish I could make things like that! Nice boots -- and tell him be safe out there!
  8. Do the tandy dies fit that press? Seems like a great price if they do.

  10. Kinda looks like a singer clone, check this page out -- not sure iof its a help or not http://sewing-machines.blogspot.com/2006/05/japanese-clones-of-40s-50s-and-60s.html Good luck!
  11. I am hiding over here other side of Nashville, between there and Jackson. i am still counting fingers, but curves to me are much easier with a round knife and so are straight cuts. I like the pushing away from me -- seems safer!
  12. Like both of them, but a suggestion on the website? Never use administrator as a name -- or as a login. Since you are using wordpress, go to the user page and add an alias to post under. You will get a lot of hacking attempts, so minimize the risk. If they need 2 logins its a lot harder to guess! But i like the dye job on the wrist band -- really nice!
  13. Got one as a gift a few weeks back -- never going back to an old fashioned knife! Got it as sharp as I can, and hope to get better at sharpening it and using it -- and hope I still have 10 fingers next New Years Eve! LOL
  14. Cool! Nice to see more Tn folk here ! Nice job
  15. I do compete for the dining room table right now -- but i lost that battle! And the spare room too!
  16. Vinegaroon dye -- just dump steel wool pad into vinegar, let it sit till the steel wool dissolves, run through a coffee filter, and voila you have a black dye! just dont put a lid on tightly as it cooks, may blow up on you. Just tested my first batch, wanted to see if getting it rusty etc in advance was needed and seems to work fine this way. Just saw a cool video on using biscuit letters to stamp leather, 2 bucks a set with a holder to line them up! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Alphabet-Number-Letter-Biscuit-Cake-Cookie-Mould-Embosser-Press-Stamp-Decorating-/302047824610?var=&hash=item4653740ae2:m:maOZugv6Z-7rRLMdOSkJNgQ is a link to one of them ( just a random one I saw on ebay ) and a cheap accurate way of embossing leather. The video used a 1 ton arbor press and the made a slot in a block of wood for the stamp holder to ride in -- it looked super simple!
  17. If you have access to a grinder, shouldnt take but a few minutes to make a diamond awl or even a belt sander. Hmm, gives me an idea!~
  18. Well I know what I will be doing in a week or so! Awesome maul!
  19. hey if your a fellow vet, sign up for tandys vet discount -- its free and gives you elite pricing, same as a business. Yogurt cups are awesome -- hold dyes, glue, mix dyes all kinds of uses! If you know someone that does bodywork, usually can get 1/2 sheets of 600 grit and better for free, 1/2 sheets last a long time for sharpening1
  20. Piece of 1 by 4, put some 600 grit wet dry paper on one side and a piece of leather rubbed in rouge on the other side to strop your blades. Make a round knife from a old table saw blade if your handy enough. The stiching pony is an easy build, just put a spring inside on the bolt so it pops open -- makes life a lot easier!
  21. Dwight That is due to their special guns that never needed reloading! LOL
  22. Yeah had it all in a tackle box, now using an old tool box. But its a lot harder to organize, might just be i am not an organizer! Plus want where whatever I need is handy! Finally get back on the road in the morning for a couple days, will build something when I get back -- saw a few ideas on pinterest. Oh thanks for the round knife -- I decided I love it! Spent the other day just mutilating leather scraps to learn how to use it!
  23. Anyone have a design for a portable workstation?Cant leave my tools at the new house until I move in -- place got broke into and lost all my tools, and wife cant stand tools in the rental house and me messing up her kitchen! Found an old design in a 1950 magazine, but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas. If not just going to do a 24 by 26 6 in deep box, with a drop front lid Be easy to move around until I get in the new house, have a 30 in by 6 foot table started there.
  24. If your cheap you can always punch the holes out and connect using a sharp chisel -- works fine for me until I can replace the rest of my tools! Its easier for me than using a razor knife, and seems to work real good with a round knife.
