  1. I could see them being used when embossing leather, to raise the leather from behing to create pockets for embossing powder
  2. Real good deal on a stitching pony on Ebay Item 120414704653
  3. I do think im gonna go with kangaroo, Kevin do you guys sell Roo hides? If so what do the go for a sq ft
  4. For you guys and gals that make your own lace, what do you use? Type of leather, weight, shoulder, side, belly? Im just starting to make my own lace, hoping to save some money, Ive been using Florentine cuz its the widest Tandy has, and I go through a lot of it, I think making my own may increase my profits any thoughts on that also, is it worth it to make your own??
  5. Im pretty sure Springfield Leather sells it. and Charles Hardke, maybe Sheridan Leather, but I really never priced it, just recently got interested.
  6. The only place I really priced it was Ebay, from some guy in Australia, a chrome tanned hide abou 6.5 sq ft goes for around $30 and a veg tanned one the same size is around $80
  7. My question is this, what is the difference between lace made from a chrome tanned roo hide and a veg tanned one, I know there has to be something that would justify the veg tanned hide to cost almost 3 times what the chrome tanned one does, Ive made a couple of seats using boght roo lace and after using it everything else is in a whole nother league, im loving that stuff, but no way I can buy pre cut lace without taking a major bite out of profits. so Im thinking of getting one of those super slick lace machines, and buying a few hides and seeing how much lace I can get out of one. Rick
  8. Thanks Jo
  9. Anyone have a phone number where I can reach Jeremiah Watt? I placed an order about 12 days ago, and Ive been trying to get some kind of info on shipping date and no one will respond to my Emails.
  10. Heres what I did on mine, first wet formed the leather around the jaws the laced the sides, came out super tight. Rick
  11. Thanks Bruce, thats the one I was looking at, do you have any of Jeremiahs round edge edgers? I was thinking about trying them out too
  12. Has anyone tried the Jeremiah Watt freehand stitch groover? Looking for one and was thinking of purchasing this one, Ive got a versa groover but was looking to get one of these so I can leave my versa groover set where I need it. Ive never used any of the horseshoe brand tools but they look very well made.
  13. Thanks Randy, thats just the info I was looking for
  14. Thanks Hilly, one more question, are the pictures in barrys catalog & website pretty accurate as far as actual size of the stamp impression?
  15. Thanks Kev
  16. Got a favor to ask, I find myself with a few hundred extra dollars and I want to start doing some Sheridan style carving, Id like if some of you more experienced guys could suggest some tools, Ive got Ellis Barnes basic set, but Id like to get 5 or 6 more quality tools, preferably Barry Kings. I just get overwhelmed looking at Barrys website and dont know exactly which ones to get.
  17. I do splice, I was just trying to estimate amount of lace to figure cost difference when using the 1/4" roo lace as opposed to other laces

    Tri Weave

Has anyone ever questioned Barry King as to why he doesnt offer a tri weave?
  19. Thanks for alll the responses. Johanna thats just what I was looking for, one more question, how much will lace width affect this formula, this is all about me wanting to try some 1/4 inch kangaroo lace, kinda pricey, will a wider lace take less to go the same distance?
  20. Well sure youd have to enter variables, to be a calculator that goes without saying, but I dont see why it would be impossible. I just thought I saw something, Im sure it wasnt down to the fraction of and inch, Pretty sure its possible just knowing distance, size of lace (that will usually dictate hole spacing) and lacing pattern being used.
  21. I found that one but it tells how big a circle of material you need to cut a certain amount of lace, i was trying to find one that would tell you how much finished lace is needed for a certain distance of lacing
  22. I know I saw an on line lacing calculator somewhere, one that tells how much lace is needed for a project, does anyone know where I can find that?
  23. PM sent
  24. Ive finally gotten tired of the quality of Tandys leather, Im thinking of trying Zack Whites, can I get some feedback from you guys on the best supplier of tooling leather, I dont yet have a tax number so Im limited as to who I can buy from.
