  1. This is perfect want to try to make a pair for myself and see how it comes out just really starting to get into the leather making side of things, do a bit of chainmailing and figured the leather does go nicely with chain!

    Lab-Top Case

    Really like that!
  3. only one word...stunning!!!!
  4. I might try the gusset idea next and there is about 2 cms on either side of the phone so its easy to pull in and out, though had to add one modification to it this morning, forgot to put a hole for the headphones as I use the headphones when walking The gusset idea might be something worth looking into as it is a little wide but it sits nice on my belt (tried it today for the first time).
  5. Thanks Halitech and I did wet mold the leather around the phone which really helped set it in place now the phone slides in and out easily. I did think about the clip slipping off but I want something that I can simply pull off and set on the table instead of having to undo my belt every time I wanted to remove it. If it becomes to much of a hassle I may think about doing another one with a belt loop. And 50 years of leather how easy is it to work with roo hide I have yet to try my hand at it though I know I can get it with ease.
  6. That is really cool and the chainmail is spot on as well, cheapest way to make it is with the fencing wire, and great work on the leather helm personally I have always hated nose guards like that, some reason I always want to cross my eyes to look ait!!! And yeah I am one of the few crazies that use to joust man to man and we did not use ballia wood we would use either fir or if we were really pissed off at each other oak lances lol great work though!
  7. On oether thing I forgot to mention that the wife pointed out the case is made out of 8 to 9oz leather as I wanted something sturdy.
  8. Forgot to mention that this uses a metal belt clip for the back single rivet hold it in place.
  9. Ok first this is actually the second case that I have made this is made for a Samsung Galxay S5 that already is in a case (water proof and supposably able to take a 10 meter fall) but there are two reasons I made this, first was to see if I could, second I keep everything in my front pocket, that includes wallet and now this phone, if I had to answer the phone I had to be careful about pulling it out of my pocket as I have pulled my wallet out as well so thought I would make this case so it clips to my belt. The first case I royally screwed up on so that went into the trash, did learn a lot from that so its not a total waste. This is the only third time that I have ever done a saddle stich, went with the saddle stich as I thought this was the strongest stitch. So Three questions, First and most important question is that as this will be on my belt it will be going out side so which is better to use as a water resist either Fiebing's Aussie Leather conditioner or Tandy's Super shien? ( Have both of these)? I am not worried about the color going darker as its black with brown edging (which is really had to see the diffrents must choose a better edge color lol). Second Question Is the saddle stich a strong enough stitch or is there a better one for something like this? Third Question what do you all think about it and where might I improve on it?

    Falconer's Bag

    Very nice!
  11. Thanks everyone for the information, and have not thought of using the slicker to remove accidental markings will give that a go on some scrap I have!
  12. Ok the other day I tried out my glass slicker after I cased the leather, what I did notice and I am not sure if I am right in thinking this but, it did seem to make the gel hold better and the leather was a bit smoother then my first leather bracelet but the stamping came out weird, one of my stamps really did not want to make a good impression and the other ones I really had to hammer kind of hard on it. So my question is this. A: do I use the glass slicker after I stamp a project or before it and does it really make as much of a difference as my untrained eye seems to think it does?
  13. Well after cutting myself with a large knife while cutting the leather out for this bracelet I have found that learning leathercraft can be dangerous lol. But here is the very first Bracelet that I have ever done, see what you all think. Did learn that my skiving needs a bit of work! The stamping did nto come out as deep as I wanted it to so next time around I am going to use a bit of super sheen on the stamping just to help make it show up a bit better. Let me know what you all think.
  14. Yeah the wife and I have both been practicing so far what we have done is rather funny but interesting to us as for the water content and how dry is to dry, now if I can only find away to keep from smacking my thumb with the hammer!
  15. Ok so just touched my first piece of leather (a coaster that came with what I bought) now I know that when you are tooling leather you need to soak it or at least get it wet enough to take an impression, I was just messing around to see how A: different pressures with the hammer effected the impression from soft taps to wacking the piss out of my thumb..er stamp...and B: to see what happens at different dampness of the leather so here is the questions. First question what is the "best" dampness (you know like when it just starts to turn back to its natural color when it its darker and you know its still sucking up the water) for stamping and 2 (the question I really hate asking but have to so be nice and no eye rolling!!) do different thickness in leather absorb the water quicker or is it all about the same time, you know does a 9oz piece of leather take longer to absorb water then say a 3oz piece of leather (both the same size)? Ok now I am off to nurse a slightly sore thumb...must remember smack stamp not thumb!!! Thanks all!

    Picture

    Love it great work!
  17. those look cool.
  18. Yep its easier to set your prices higher then work your way down to see if you sell something then it is to set your prices low and try to bring the price up where you want it to, and in the eyes of the consumer price 9 times out of ten is directly related to quality, the higher the price the better the quality or so they seem to think.
  19. Personally I would raise the price, mind you I would raise it slowly after all you do know when they are going to jump your rent, and what not a little before they do it, so you could easily raise the price of your items just so long as its not a sudden and huge mark up. And a lot of times marking your product up could actually help you.
  20. Another great idea, thanks Dwight and yeah I can see where weight would really help for the one of pieces especialy as you said if your using more then one thickness of leather. Thanks to both of you for the great ideas!
