Ok my wife and I have designed our very first corset, and this is a true one of a kind, we built this from the ground up. From concept, to pattern cutting out all the way til finished. Everything on this is hand done, no machinery was used what so ever. It's 6 to 7 oz veg tan leather all total about 10 hours of work, from starting out with duct tape..yep that's right we used duct tape in our design...to putting it all together. Only thing I have to really learn to do a little better is where to put the rivets at.

I always dye the piece after cutting the strands, then put snaps on then start to braid, I plan where the snaps are going first, because last time I kind of forgot to do that and had no place for the snaps LOL

Thanks to the both of you for the info on the video and yeah was hoping there was a formula but ah well just leave a couple of extra inches and go from there thanks!

Ok so just learned how to do this thanks to someone here on the forums with a great video (sorry having a really bad memory day today so again sorry to who ever posted the great video) my question is this how long of a leather strap do I actually need? Now bare with me here, I have made a few "normal" bracelets before so I chose one of my templets that I know will fit me and did a quick 5 strand mystery braid once it was done the sucker is WAY to tight...where as my normal one is rather loose so how much extra leather do I actually need?

First one I finished a while ago but just now got a maniquine that can wear it as its a 36-28-36 (tandy pattern) This other corset I am almost done it has 3 interchangeable center pieces and is fully riveted in place which was a pain in the ass to figure out how to do lol. I still have to get a proper measurement on this as I am thinking it will be a 32 to 34 inch waist but have to figure out how to get a true measurement for it

How Do I Smooth Down 2Mm Thick Leather Edges Without Burnishing?
Windrider30 replied to HC009's topic in How Do I Do That?
I use a light sand paper when working with thin leather to give it a burnished look, then a bit of edge dressing. if you can't get all the "fuzzies" off do what I do...set the stuff on fire with a lighter..works just make sure you don't burn the leather lol or more importantly your fingers cuse that really hurts!! -
Question For Those That Have Used Garment Leather
Windrider30 replied to Windrider30's topic in How Do I Do That?
ConradPark thanks for the advice especially about not to use the saddle stitch since that is honestly my favourite stitch to use as it is so damn strong! -

Ok Have a pattern for a hobble skirt, thinking about getting some garment leather and trying my hand at that, but what kind of thread is needed, would normal sewing thread work or is a waxed thread better..and by the way going to be hand stitching not using a sewing machine which might make things shall we say interesting. But so far all of my projects, from wallets, one underbust corset, and a man bag have all been done by hand, even the full corset that I used rivets all of it was done by hand no machines involved which is part of my marketing process.

Extending Leather Patterns Speficly Corsets
Windrider30 replied to Windrider30's topic in How Do I Do That?
Tina thanks for that but I do have 4 full patterns two underbust and two corsets, the one from tandy I do like so I was just wondering how I would exapand that pattern outward as to be honest the whole 36-28-36 is kind of hard to find now a days, not to mention I like the look of the rivets. -

Roper Wallet
Windrider30 replied to LoneWolf1973's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I agree with Rohn that a double loop stitch would look a lot better. It just adds a bit of class, I have done a roper wallet and find that the double loop along the edge looks very nice, I just have to learn to get mine a bit tighter, still figuring out what is too tight! Not the best of photos but it should give you an idea on the double loop stitch. Again I know its not the best in the world but it looks rather nice I think. -
Ok so just wanted to see if my thinking is right, I have a pattern from Tandy, it turned out rather nice so what I would like to do is make it for different sizes as this pattern is very spefic at 36-28-36. My thinking is to treat the pattern the same way that I would if I wanted to make a bag bigger. Simply say add an inch on the last four patterns, leaving the front panels (which form the breast cup) alone which would then..in my thinking...make the pattern say a 36-30-38 would my thinking be right or would it throw the pattern totally out of wack? I really do not want to experiment and waist the leather if I am wrong. Thanks for any advice. The picture is the finished corset.

Contact Cement My Nemesis - Dear Lord Someone Help Me!
Windrider30 replied to Windrider30's topic in How Do I Do That?
Yeah my bad on that one Trevor I was tired when I wrote that lol but thanks =) -
You could use the plastic as the terraflex and be easly molded with a hair drier (heat gun would be a bit better) You can even wrap the leather around it and stitch it inside (so you wouldn't have so many layers of leather maybe) and yeah I would use either a whole punch or a set of pricking irons as I honestly hate using an awl hurts my hand and well lets just say you can't get blood out of leather once you stab yourself. Oh and the good thing with the terraflex is that any scraps you have can actualy be reheated and rolled out to form bigger pieces, was playing with that last night.

Thanks Mate for that I will try a small piece tomorrow as I think I have some metho still in the laundry room. -
hmm that is an interesting idea though I do not own an airbrush nor do I really have the talent to use one. Its just an idea I was playing around with hmmm I wonder though can you make veg tan softer on the back side of it?

Thanks

Ok really noob question but can garmet leather be carved or stamped? Or is it better to simply use it on its own with out doing anything to it. Have a pattern for a skirt that I am thinking of trying just to try it but wasn't sure so thought I would ask before I went out and spent the money.
-
The magnets would be a good idea as for layering the leather why not use a plastic? Tandy sells some stuff that I have been playing around with that is kind of fun it's called terraflex. And personally with that much of a thickness I think I would try to pre-punch each piece then glue them together but I am still learning the ropes so my idea might not be that good.
