  1. Thanks for the answers all.And Zulu I actualy use more then just the point of the stanely knife I tend to use half the blade for cutting, could simply be because I am left handed but the angle I use I end up using at least half the blade. The other reason I really do like the stanely as mentioned, no sharping needed.
  2. Ok why under the Good Lord's green earth would you need such a knife? I mean really I use a stanily knife for every thing from 8 to 9 0z down to 2-3 oz leather and i have already had to have stitches because of the stanly knife..with a head knife I would be afraid to lose a finger!! or a hand! So what is the actual point and does it truely come in handy to have such a blade?
  3. I use a SHARP Stanley knife making sure the blade is new. And i use a set of pro pricking irons i got from tandy and just use a heavy mallet. Oh and I prick the lines first from the back makes it easer to scribe a straight line
  4. Ok so no pen loop had not thought about it stretching the caps or anything like that...hmm small pouch then maybe on the inside I maybe have to give that a look see, though do not really want to take up to much space inside the bag. Though on the outside..hmm cool thanks both of you for the help and ideas!
  5. Ok making another messenger bag, but i want to put a spot for a couple of pens, well maybe three in total, so do I simply make a small strip that a person can simply hook the pen to, or should i make a full lenght pen holder that way if the pen does not have a hook/latch thingy (to late in the evening to get all technical) it can still be slotted into the pen holder so that they do not have to dig around in the bag for a pen?
  6. I personally hand stitch stingray and use a pricking iron for it. Jusf works better for me so never bothered with a sewing machine. Now if you are going to cut stingray cut it from the backside I have found that works better then tring to cut it from the front.
  7. That is really cool looking. How hard was it to cut only exotic leather that I have worked with is stingray
  8. Oh yeah you NEED to neutralized, I should have taken a photo but ended up getting to busy and it got chucked into the trash but if you do not neutrialize the stuff it bleeds though even MORE it nearly turned the whole thing black with just a few odd spots left untouched!
  9. Tandy makes a craft aid for the wood texture look uf you want
  10. personally I would not use pallet banding, as I do not think it would hold the shape over a long period, rawhide might work but I have yet to use rawhide so can not honeslty answer tha tone, spring steel might be the way to go though, but personally I would avoid pallet banding.
  11. Ok folks here you go, hit the skulls with three layers of super sheen let it sit for 24 hours, then hit the leather with vingarroon using a dobber to apply it, as you can see it went though the super sheen (the eyes did not have any kind of resist on them as I prefer those to go black. So there you have it..proof...
  12. Well I screwed a piece up majorly, damn design is upside down now and did not know I had the leather the wrong way around..DOH..anyways I have put 3 coats of resist (tandy's Super Sheen) over top the tooling I did, so what I am going to do is brush.not dip but brush the vingeroon over the piece and will take pictures..both before..and after so that everyone can see what it will or will not do!
  13. What I mean is can I hit say a bit of tooling with a resist so that the tooling stays the same color as the leather or what ever color I want it, then just hit the rest of the piece with the vinegarroon or will the vinegarroon just change everything to black
  14. Will a resist stop vineagroon from working or not figured I would ask to see if someone has already tried that.
  15. Thankfully I have only taken part of my index nail off and a simply slice to the finger under the nail...the worse cut I have at the momment is on the side of my little finger from to much saddle stitching by hand..I tell my wife and she just says suck it up butter cup!!! No simpathy I tell you
  16. Thanks for the info guys as I have never used it was just more of a..ohhh bullet proof momment lol...might use it in a few wallets just for the hell of it. (hand sitching)
  17. Looks great though not my style. Really impressive carving!
  18. Anyone ever use this? I saw it on tandy and just had to buy some lol I can now claim that " Yes the wallet may not stop a bullet but at least the thread will!!!!" Lol sorry couldnt help that..But has anyone used any before?
  19. If you want I can link to you where I bought the pattern he has a great video to show you how every thing goes together as well
  20. That will look really cool will want to see it when its done..I do not personaly do quivers simply because I do not know anyone htat bow hunts
  21. Forgot the messerurment 10 inches tall 10 inches across the front 10 inches deep and 3 inches wide or so says the ruler at 5 35 am
  22. Well its 98% finished just need to make a removeable shoulder strap for it and its good. Was a really interesting project and I do love the way the handle came out. Was worried I would screw it up some how but it came out very nice all the way around. It has two pockets, one on the out side, and one on the inside the one in the inside you can easily fit an ipad into it.
  23. JL what would you recommend for a " general" good lenght of adjustable strap then as you have a good point.
  24. That is a great idea thanks for that!!
