  1. Ok so making my first messenger bag but I want to make a shoulder strap for it so what is a good length to make the strap..and how should I go about making it adjustable?
  2. Looks good and a stitching pony comes in handy once in a while on other projects it just gets in the way
  3. good idea Thorn thanks for that!
  4. Ok leather bracer finsihed, just put 12 eyelets in and put it around my own forearm so there we go =) still might use the texture for a leather bag might look cool
  5. Keep up the great work!
  6. That is a great job, amazing!!
  7. For anyone that wants to get the craft aid: https://www.tandyleather.com/en-usd/home/76634-00.aspx and Oldtoolsniper I am thinking leather bag but using the texture of the wood on it.
  8. I used a slightly damp spounge and tandy's Eco flow medium brown antiquie gel. Just covered the hell out of the piece, then took a second spongue and hit the whole piece with water to get all the extra dye off until I was happy with the color turned out pretty good, and I will finish this piece today, think I will just use the old eyelites and lace to close the bracer off. As for the process to get the design its a craft-aid from Tandy, the craft aid actualy has two other textures on it, bought it really just for the wood textrue. I enjoy using the anquites on this project figured it would really get deep into the lines. by the by thinking of using that texture for a messenger bag what you all think?
  9. That is the look I am going for.
  10. Ok this is the very first time I have used this craft aid from Tandy...relax I know half of you think Tandy is in coohoots with the devil...I got out with just promising them my first born...suckers I had a vasectomy when I was 20 mahahah!!! Anyways here is what I have come up with..let me tell you its a lot of frigging work using the swivel knife and then deciding what to bevel what not to..how to shade the knot holes...still I think it turned out ok...honest thoughts and or improvements please and thank you.
  11. Ok here it is, finally finished my very first leather top hat. Hand laced as well as hand sewn (used a saddle stitch to attach brim to the body of the hat) Have also made a 3 strand mystery braid hat ban that can be removed, as there will be one or two more hat bands this way the hat can have several diffrent looks if the wearer wants. I just need to touch up the hat band as I cut part of it to make it sit a little better, just have to hit it with the edge dye and its done!!1
  12. That is because the scuff mark is on the top of the hat, but redying it should take care of it...will see later today.
  13. Well is not totally finished just yet, but 90 % done, I have to do a little tough up dying where I scuffed the top up trying to get the friggin brim hand sewn to the body of the hat, decided to go with a saddle stitch for the brim...that sucker is not going any where any time soon!!! Going to add a hat band but going to do a mystery braid as I have not seen a hat with one like that before! The chainmail is square wire single spiral weave chain done by me.
  14. Yep yep now to let it do its thing in the sun for another 11 days hehe
  15. Eco flow can be a pain to use but I really like the look of it after its had the hell buffed out of it..great work!
  16. Ok so playing mad scientist and making my first batch of vinegarroon only been three days but wanted to see what would happen if I dipped some scrap leather into the jar I am using, and this is what happen...the patches are simply because I did not remove the steel wool as it is still rusting away nicely just dipped it straight into the jar pushing the steel wool down a bit.
  17. Ok just set the vinegaroon up today...kind of cool to see it start to bubble by mid day.. but stupid question or at least major noob question. Once I am ready to strain the mix into another bottle do I simply was the old one out before I start another batch or jyst stuff it full of steel wool and go again?
  18. I agree looks to be laser cut to me as well
  19. Both of the pieces belong to a corset, double pannel. I think I am going to cheat it just a tad and slice part of the top off after I restitch it, simply curve it just a bit more, that will take care of the problem with out actually screwing the corset up.
  20. Ok trying to hand stitch these two panels together...and I have this bow in the middle that I can not seem to get rid of. No matter which way I try to twist both pieces of leather (by the way both are 8 to 9 oz) I just can't seem to get both sides to match into the middle. My idea is to cut a small line to see if I can make it so that it will match up properly I really do not want to have to cut another panel. I know I am going to have the same issue with the other side so any ideas and or help would be very much appricated!!
  21. Ok been reading the forums and getting as much info as I can on the mystic vinegaroon chemcial changing of the leather to black (as it technicly is not a dye) so here are the questions as I am getting ready to make my first batch...which has to be done in the garage as the wife refuses to have the house smell of vinegar for some reason lol A: have read about actually heating the vinegar first, does this make it work better or faster or has no effect? B: The baking soda bath how long do you leave it in right after dipping into the vinegaroon as I have read several things about " soda burn" to the leather C: Oil...will olive oil work after the backing soda bath? D: which is better let the stuff sit for 2 weeks or a month before starting to use it? Thanks all.
  22. I use bag stiffner from tandy...if its just something I am messing with i just use tracing paper or normal paper from my printer
  23. WoW that is cool. You said you hand stitched the bag I thought with a thin leather you were suppose to avoid saddle stich, well garment leather that is.
  24. Very cool must hide it from my wife she will want it!!! lol
