  1. There was so much interest in this, I'm thinking it's not too soon to do another round. We could take names for a a week or two, then have the pieces go out in mid-late May? Holly
  2. I think there's a special post just for pics of the pay it forward pieces....not that I mind seeing them here... As to doing it again, I'd be in again, it was so much fun! I'm still anxiously awaiting my "treat"!
  3. That's very cool, but it's not a triskalion...
  4. I'm in the same boat as you in the cutting dept....but I think your frog came out really nice! I've seen this pattern, in fact a friend of mine made it too and I sold it for him at a Faire. Yours is great for just practice! I think the knot is just right on it - not crowding all over the piece. I'm kind of a minimalist when it comes to design on pieces like that -- you don't want it to detract from a fine blade in my opinion.
  5. I like the idea too! Wristbands are a nice quick project.
  6. I had a no-name saddle of the English variety. Verlane Desgrange was gracious enough to examine detailed photos of it and give me her opinion (God rest her soul). While it can seem insulting to hear it being called an out of US thing (I think she said mine looked like it was made in India), keep in mind that people can still make quality products outside of the US. Just because you're not from the MidWest, doesn't mean you can't make a good saddle. That said, however, there are certainly plenty of knockoffs and counterfiets, as well as cheaply made products too.
  7. Yes, Kevin: Tina is the person you send to...sorry for the delay in replying...
  8. Can't help you with the rivet issue since I'm lousy at setting myself, even after years of "practice"...LOL...but I have to say that is a nice looking collar you posted! I actually like to use Chicago screws instead of rivets, for the buckle hardware. I think you are on the right track with the sewing a backing on. The collars I've made have been with heavier leathers, veggie tan, which I stamped and stained, and I didn't line any of them. But they were just for my parents' dogs.
  9. LOL! My foremost leather teacher would tell you I rarely listened to a thing he said. Used to drive him bonkers. I really like the colors, and it is a nice design. What would you have done differently?
  10. I think that'd be fine...I'll add you on the list That said, here's the final list for this round, folks: Tina tazzman wildrose Cecil SCOUTER Myriam Froghunter Kani Rayban Bob Regis Clay M Banwell Hoyden jammon ferret ShirleyZ Beaverslayer wolfenstien CitizenKate ETW Grumpy broncobuster rdb Oscar B leatheroo superchute Hilly JLD Pip JRedding (thanks for the pm!) superchute #2 Kevin King Please try to send your projects within a month. 13. This is just so great how many are getting into this! But on the downside, I've been asked by ClayB if I would please take him off. So the revised list is below. If any others would like to be added or removed, please let me know a.s.a.p. We'd like folks to know their people for certain by tomorrow (Friday): Tina tazzman wildrose Cecil SCOUTER Myriam Froghunter Kani Rayban Bob Regis Clay M Banwell Hoyden jammon ferret ShirleyZ Beaverslayer wolfenstien CitizenKate ETW Grumpy broncobuster rdb Oscar B leatheroo superchute Hilly JLD Pip
  14. To be honest with you, I've never run out of lace and I almost always do a double loop. I have had some lace that broke/split alot, but like you the manager made things right for me.
  15. Hmmm, seems somehow Tina never got on the list...I was cut/pasting early lists, and I see now she wasn't on 'em...so here it is all fixed: Tina tazzman wildrose Cecil SCOUTER Myriam Froghunter Kani Rayban Bob Regis Clay M Banwell Hoyden jammon ferret ShirleyZ Beaverslayer wolfenstien CitizenKate ETW Grumpy broncobuster rdb Oscar B ClayB leatheroo superchute Hilly JLD Pip Wolvenstein, they're just teasin' ya, no problems here Remember, if anyone else wants to jump in, you have 'til this Friday!
  16. "Let's take names 'til this Fri. Mar.28, and give a sending out date of Fri. Apr.25. That gives almost a month, does that sound okay?" That was what I originally suggested, but I understand there are some of you who might need longer. Someone had suggested we all do the "sending out" around the same time so folks were getting things 'round the same time...but I know some of you have actually started making your "goodies" already. All that said, I really don't have a preference on when things go out. I think if some of us take longer, that's not a problem. If some send sooner, that's not a problem either. Okay? And yup, we're going by the list. That seems to be good from what I've heard. The person whose name is after yours is the one you send to. The last person on the list then sends to the first person.
  17. You're not too late, Pip. I've added you and switched Shirley to do her little English heart good :jump: tazzman wildrose Cecil SCOUTER Myriam Froghunter Kani Rayban Bob Regis Clay M Banwell Hoyden jammon ferret ShirleyZ Beaverslayer wolfenstien CitizenKate ETW Grumpy broncobuster rdb Oscar B ClayB leatheroo superchute Hilly JLD Pip
  18. I've posted flowers AND animals in the patterns section. We used to have some really gorgeous plants at our PA home...haven't gotten anything sprouting here in VA yet.
  19. Personally I like going by the list. Especially since some have started already. Of course, that shouldn't stop someone from sending to another person ALSO, as some of you have chosen to do. So if there are no serious complaints in the order as I last put it, or anyone else that wants to drop off the lsit, it will run as is. I'll give folks 'til this Friday to make any comments to the opposite, and then we are going with it. I know it can seem challenging to send to someone more "experienced" - that's exactly how I feel too. But everything we do is special in some way and nothing to feel anxious about.
  20. Johanna, for one, wrote me thanking me for taking it on. She's got enough on her plate. I'm certainly up for suggestions on how best to do this whole thing, I'm not set on any one way at this point. I've just kinda been "thinking out loud". I take all hints and try to incorporate what the majority would prefer. I'm somewhat at a loss on one thing though: what to do about overseas shipping. Early on, $ was put by folks' names who were willing to ship overseas/out of country. But I don't really feel it's fair to make that distinction since some people will not have a choice (i.e. they are in a place where everyone else on the list is out of country) Then again, there might be some in the US who simply can't afford to ship out of country. So I'm kinda torn on what to do there. I do feel the dates I set were fair though, so I think all we need to do is work out who sends to whom. Personally I don't have a problem with the list running as it is, because that's basically how people jumped on board. But if you all have other suggestions, or if the "put names in a hat" seems good for everyone, let's have 'em! tazzman wildrose Cecil SCOUTER Myriam Froghunter Kani Rayban Bob Regis Clay M Banwell Hoyden jammon ferret Beaverslayer wolfenstien CitizenKate ETW Grumpy broncobuster rdb Oscar B ShirleyZ ClayB leatheroo superchute Hilly JLD
  21. This is the current list. I re-did it slightly because Wolvie specifically asked for Beaverslayer early on in the discussion. tazzman wildrose Cecil Johanna SCOUTER Myriam Froghunter Kani Rayban Bob Regis Wood Clay M Banwell Hoyden jammon ferret Beaverslayer wolfenstien CitizenKate ETW Grumpy broncobuster rdb Oscar B ShirleyZ ClayB leatheroo superchute Hilly JLD Let's take names 'til this Fri. Mar.28, and give a sending out date of Fri. Apr.25. That gives almost a month, does that sound okay?
  22. I sit corrected...after hearing from a few of you, I withdraw the majority of my last post I guess the basis of what I was trying to say was what someone pointed out earlier about not needing a saddle (can't recall the exact wording right now). I have a few pieces from other artists, which were sent to me as special gifts, and I love every one of them.
  23. Perhaps it'd be best to "research" a little of what the person you're sending to likes - i.e. I'm not great at patterns myself other than Celtic (which I have a ton of). It may be you'd end up sending someone something they already have. It's tough, I know, to come up with something someone you don't know that well might want, but as someone pointed out earlier, it's really great to have something someone else made out of leather. Maybe we could come up with a quick "questionnaire" that could be filled out and forwarded along to each person that wanted to participate? Or just some info about yourself? For example, I'm into the Renaissance/Medieval Faire scene, I love Celtic art, but am also really into the outdoors and wildlife, especially horses, cats and dogs. I collect model horses. My favorite leather stains are mahogany and saddle tan, and my favorite colors are orange, green and blue. Something brief like that would really give someone an idea of where your interests lie.
  24. I'd be willing to organize it, but we have to come up with a standardized way for those who want to participate to contact me (i.e. via email OR pm, and a deadline for being on the "list") and folks have to have a way to contact who they are exchanging with (their mailing address, obviously). So perhaps, the best way to do it is to set a deadline, and if you want to participate, you have to let me know your email address and mailing address. Does that seem reasonable? DON'T WRITE ME YET! We need to make a deadline first
